Anyone besides me notice how dominant Amar'e has been recently? He's playing great on both ends of the floor, which hasn't always been the case. Maybe he wouldn't be such a bad acquisition this off-season after all?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 4, 2010 -> 12:05 AM) I know slot of people hate him , but I saw him develop what could have been a weak core into one of the better ones in the league with Rose, Gibson, Noah and maybe Johnson or deng from what I thought was garbage (excluding Rose as he us awesome). I ate slot of crow on noah and Gibson. I honestly don't know what another coach would have done better. 2 playoff appearences with avg rosters. I guess with a star and an experienced coach it will be better next season, but I think he was pretty good while here. I think you can give Vinny credit for developing Taj and Noah (not as much Rose because I think he's just a transcendent talent), but where I think Vinny deserves to be criticized is his handling of the X's and O's. Basketball people say that you can base the tactical ability of a coach depending on how the team runs plays out of time outs. I can honestly say that I rarely, if ever, saw the bulls run successful plays out of timeouts. You saw it all the time with Skiles, but rarely if ever with VDN. Now I'm not sure how this exactly corresponds to VDN's overall ability to coach, but I think it tells you something. Maybe Vinny belongs more on the player development side of things and not behind the bench.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 2, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) What winds up happening is...the teams which don't land a top level guy wind up giving big contracts to the next 2 levels down. Then...you wind up in the ultimate crap scenario, which is where so many NBA teams have spent time...as somewhere between poor and good teams, but with salaries so high that they can't afford to add another piece. It's those 2nd and 3rd tier players that are killing NBA owners right now. Teams can't commit to fully rebuilding without having the stadium empty and revenue disappear, so if they have cap space, they feel compelled to use it. On the other hand...if they're going out and signing a guy who can't on his own put them over the top, they're almost always overpaying these days, and that's how a team winds up in trouble. Well said.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) Only Scoop Jackson would write this article about Jamal Crawford at this point. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/commentary/...=jackson/100430 ...somehow it made it's way onto the front of ESPN.com as well. When Jamal was drafted in 2000, he was ridiculously skinny. I am actually pretty impressed with the progression of his career, he's a legit player right now and seems to have learned the value of defense.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) There is no f-ing way that Reinsdorf ponies up the money for Phil Jackson. my thoughts exactly, and he wouldn't come here because we don't have LeBron, Kobe, Durant, Wade etc . . .

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:12 PM) early chance to drive in a runner from 3rd w/ less than 2 out. . . little worried that we're not going to do that. yah, had a bad feeling about that one. Lets hope FJP becomes JFP tonight.

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) exactly what I was thinking as well I just hope he doesn't ask "e" for advice on the prosthetic makeup . . . we all know how that worked out last time.

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) Feels good thay I won't have to watch Kevin Payne miss hits anymore since he doesn't know how to or attempt to tackle ever. I can't believe that we got a draft pick for him. . . must have been like a 7th rounder in 2013 (assuming the world ends in 2012).

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) I'm hoping that they get smart and just use Hester for kick returns again. He's brutal as a WR. Aromashodu, Knox, Iglesias, Bennett, Olsen, Clark, and the RBs should be just as effective as Hester and his bad route running. Hester should be a KR first and a slot receiver second. That being said, I don't really believe in this WR group. I don't care what Cutler, Martz, Lovie and Angelo say, I saw a lot of bad out of that group last year and I'm not sure that we still don't have the worst WR core in the league.

They've done it to me again, I'm getting a little optimistic about the Bears chances next year. I don't think you can build a team via free agency, but signing Peppers and Taylor seem like promising moves. Then we get back a solid starter in Chris Harris and draft Major Wright who could be a nice addition at FS. Suddenly the Bears defense doesn't have many holes (getting Urlacher and Tinoisamoa back too). The biggest question mark for me is how the marriage between Martz and Cutler works out. I was really skeptical at first, however, Martz and Cutler have said all the right things so far. I know it's just talk, but Jay seems excited to be working with the Mad scientist and I think Martz might be toning down the asshole act because he realizes how much he has riding on this season. Dammit, I'm hooked again.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) Well, he also works really well with Kane and Toews (though who wouldn't?) He's not afraid to muck it up and fight for the loose puck. Bickell and Troy Brouwer are essentially the same player. But Brouwer had that bad hiccup (turnover that lead to a goal) in game 1 and never really overcame it. Brouwer essentially admitted to such by saying that his confidence was shaken. Hence the emergence of Bickell who is a little quicker, but hasn't found the same scoring touch. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) I swear that the bears did the exact same thing with their last college scouting director that they replaced with Gabriel. They did the draft, and fired him right afterwards I think what you're referring to is that the Bears Fired Mark Hatley after the 2001 draft and hired Jerry Angelo . . . the bears went on to go 13-3 that first season and Angelo was essentially forced to retain, and re-sign Dick Jauron.

http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...abriel-out.html Bears firing college scouting director Greg Gabriel . . . my question is why fire him after the draft and not before? I hope that the organization wouldn't allow a guy to have a say in drafting when he was already on his way out. My guess is that he has been gone for a while now, but retained so he couldn't go to another team give them the bears drafting plans?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) 12 forced fumbles and 5 interceptions in 3 yrs with Carolina. I love the move. I love that he already knows the defense and there won't be any learning curve. He can also be a nice mentor for Major Wright. . . all for Jamar Williams? Count me in.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) Chris Harris has played pretty damn well with Carolina since leaving the Bears. I'd launch Jamar Williams training camp wonder boy for him in a second Frankenstein returns?
