QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 04:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We'll see about that. See what? Your post was full of BS. Regardless of what Rowand does from this point on for this season or his career it has nothing to do with the nonsense you posted about Thome. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 04:33 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We'll see about that. My argument is simple: what has Thome provided, seeing that he is supposedly the "upgrade"? Yeah I like watching his HR bombs too. What else has he provided? Those slap hits? Baserunning? His Go-Go White Sox attitude and clubhouse leadership? I'm not even slamming him. I'm telling some of you to open your eyes. Thome was a massive upgrade from our 2005 DH's. He's cheap, he's a power left handed bat (something the Sox have lacked since Ventura,) a future hall of famer, and he's a good clubhouse guy. By getting on base and mashing the ball, he greatly improves our offense much more than a guy who has little plate patience and one good year under his belt.

Ah, read too fast. I wonder why the A's weren't listed as one of the top drafting teams in that draft.
-
Jim Thome batted .288 for the Sox and is a career .282 hitter. Aaron Rowand batted .288 or better for the Sox only once in his juiced 2004 year and is a career .282 hitter. If Thome doesn't hit for a "percentage," what does that say about Rowand? If you're questioning Thome's bunting skills, I really question your baseball knowledge. That's an Anne Maxfield argument.

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh, I've seen Thome get clutch hits. As I said, he is a good hitter. But for the amount of money he gets paid, and for the gaudy numbers he puts up, one would expect him to get a lot more clutch hits than he does. If you're a pitcher in the 9th inning in a close game and a hitter like Thome steps into the box, how do you pitch to him? Are you going to give him anything to hit?

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 12:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/draft2007/co...&id=2892330 Good article looking back at the 2002 draft. I found it interesting Indeed. This article shows why you shouldn't put all your eggs in draft position and how difficult it is to develop effective major league players from college and high school kids. Even the Twins' first effective pick wasn't until the sixth round.

He's also living off his last name.

I know somebody who claims to have received a part as an extra with a possible speaking role. I wish I was in the area for it because they were looking for people with nice cars as well. While driving the hood of my car reminds me of the Batmobile.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Send down: Masset (so he can start in AAA), Aardsma, and DL or send down Mac, depending on his options Call up: Prinz, Vasquez, Bukvich Day threw 2 scoreless, can't send him down after that considering what everybody else has done. And it's clear Masset needs works as a starter in AAA, he can't throw out of the pen. I agree completely.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If I read Accardo's numbers right, lefties were hitting .098 off him and righties were hitting around .240... so Ozzie PHs Cintron for Uribe??!?!? Wasn't Ozzie. Or it wasn't supposed to be. Did Baines just sleep through this one?

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Andy Gonzalez has been a good call-up. He's really contributed a lot. That has to be a hell of a gig. You get a bump in pay and you don't even ahve to do anything.
-
Because the BP squad would have no offense, they should be given a handicap of like 5 runs. That still probably wouldn't keep them from walking, wild pitching, hitting batsmen to blow the lead.
-
IT'S A MIRACLE!!! I thought for sure AJ would be thrown out. that would be fitting.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 02:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep....you know I've been saying that since day one of his career. I'm pretty sure Ozzie pulled our closer in the first game of his career in order to get the lefty-lefty match-up against Stairs. I'm so pissed off that we didn't let Logan face Lind. If Lind beats Logan, then I'll be the first one to say there's nothing you can do about it. If you recall, in Ozzie's first career game managing, his BP blew a 7-3 lead as he pointlessly used his closer and I remember Stairs having a double off of Botch.
-
The starting pitcher leaves after 3 innings and we still can't get a hit off the BP. Good lord.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> FWIW, Ozzie said yesterday that he knew Wells was going to be brought into the game to PH. Didn't he pinch hit for Matt Stairs? Since becoming manager Matt Stairs probably scares Ozzie the most of any hitter.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Anyone think we might have to consider making Thome a platoon hitter in the next few years? He's a freaking joke against southpaws now. No. The Sox couldn't find a spot for a guy like Perez anyways. We need more grinding OF's. Like I mentioned before, Vladimir Guerrero was a freaking joke against RHP last year and only hit LHP, but I don't recall any Angel fans calling for a platoon. However the Sox could've pinched hit for Thome right there even though he had a .300 BA and .364 OBP against Downs.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I really just love the smallball try there.....nothing like giving up the out to get to Iguchi and Thome, someone who can't hit lefty pitching. We played right into their pitching change. Why not let Terrero bat against Downs instead of Owens? ...and because it got screwed up, Ozzie is going to force everyone to practice it for an extra hour before each game.
-
from yahoo: Last Play: J. Owens unknown into double play catcher to shortstop to first, J. Uribe out at second

HORRIBLE!!!! 0-57

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cooper should have been fired after last year....but it sounds like Tim Raines was the scapegoat for our disasterous 2nd half last season. Oh come on. That's a little extreme. Cooper had tired starters and Raines left on his own terms. He wasn't fired.
-
It's insane that our bullpen is performing like this at the exact time we are performing against other teams' bullpens. 0-56, 5 walks
-
..all with two freaking outs. Man, this is painful to follow.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 12:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Crede and/or Dye need to be traded ASAP, Dye more so especially when Erstad or Podsednik come back. The lack of being able to make an adjustment by these hitters is down right pathetic and teams have figured these asswipes out. Are you kidding me? Dye might be struggling, but he is turning it around, and he is much better than Pods and Grinderstad. Say we get rid of Dye when Pods or Erstad comes back. Who fills in when one of the two go down again?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 12:03 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In other Cub news, Lou suspended indefinitely.. LMFAO!!!! I don't think coaches can appeal either. That's pathetic and very Bevington-like if Lou wasn't arguing and was just putting on a show. It's amazing how fast Cub fans, paticular the internet ones, were all over his jock before the season started and now they realize he's worse than Baker, another guy they pimped before he got there.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 01:01 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Walker wasn't at Saturday's game. I know, I know, but the Sox didn't go 0-47 yesterday. I just got tired of seeing the multiple threads created about the same topic.
