QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 31, 2007 -> 09:58 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You doubt I live up to what? I didn't say anything about leaving. I'll still watch the games. I'll still post my thoughts. But I've been saying for awhile that we aren't very good, and today was the final straw, although this whole damn week has sucked. I expect for someone to say "the season is over" that person will show less emotion and pay less attention to that team. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 31, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Umm...and that's because Terrero will do such a good job replacing him? Let me guess, you prefer Sweeney or Anderson in CF? Well, that's not going to happen, I highly doubt we'll ever see Brian Anderson with the major league team again. Oh, just how will we ever make up for Erstad's .658 OPS? Trade for an average major league outfielder perhaps?

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 31, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thome doesn't do much good, due to the fact that we won't be competitive again until 2009 or 2010, so you have to try to get younger eventually. I guess they can keep Thome and Konerko and Jim can get his 500th HR in front of 22,000 fans. If I were Thome and went from joining a team that was heading back for another World Series and is now headed in the direction of 2-3 .500 seasons, wouldn't you want to join an organization that gave you the best chance to win it all, like the Angels or possibly the Yankees? I feel bad for Jim that he'll have to waste two years of his career with no chance at all to get to post-season play. You find me a DH who'll put up the same numbers as Thome for $8 million or less for the next three years. You're already throwing in the towel for 2008? Man you're weak. I thought people giving up on this season lacked "marbles," but you're something else. Tex will be a free agent after 2008, so why should the Sox trade for him if they aren't going to be competitive until 2009? Nevermind. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 31, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> that the season is over? Guess we won't be seeing you as much in Pale Hose Talk? Doubt you live up to it. Erstad isn't a major loss.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 31, 2007 -> 12:51 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You'd have to trade Thome, move Konerko to DH and make Teixeira the starter at 1B. That would make Konerko a very expensive DH, and I don't think he'd go for that...but Mark is one of the few big names out there that are "younger" players and more intriguing. He could hit lefties better than Thome as well. Thome is a lot better against RHP than Tex, and he's not waving his NTC to leave Chicago. You would have to be a complete Jackass to take a year and a half with Teixiera and Boras over 2 and a half years of Thome for about $8 million per. Teixeria away from that damn bandbox in Arlington this year: .250/.367/.480/.847 yawn. -
He was claimed and therefore he must be added to the major league roster. The Padres will add Hiram Bocachica to their roster prior to Friday's game. Bocachica will likely replace either Oscar Robles or Paul McAnulty, probably the former. McAnulty could then be sent down when Brian Giles is activated from the disabled list. Bocachica will start against lefties until Giles returns, but he'll mostly be used as a pinch-hitter.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 30, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't see anything wrong with that. I'd be proud if Juan Uribe did it. If Darin Erstad did it, we'd never stop hearing about what a heady ballplayer he is. But since it's A-Rod, a player with infinite talent and the money that goes with that talent, he'll be raked over the coals for being "Bush League." What about when he deeked Derrek Lee into believing the ball was foul saving a run?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 31, 2007 -> 08:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well yeah, but we never actually had that team, lol. And if we turned down Maggs and Rauch for Andruw, I think KW should have been fired on the spot for that err in judgement. There was more to it from the Sox side, and the Braves were waiting to see Maggs before making the move. Jones still had about about $40 million left on the table with his contract so it wasn't such an easy call. -
QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ May 31, 2007 -> 07:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> all they are saying is they heard a "pop" on his swing Well he never had any "pop" in his bat. This should've been expected, but at least the Sox have some options in the minor leagues. I couldn't imagine what would happen if Iguchi or Uribe suffered an injury this serious.

The Sox were on fire in June and could've had NL July pitcher of the month (5-0) Russ Ortiz (another guy KW has always targeted) and Andruw Jones for Magglio/Rauch (according to TBS) when he was still on the DL. That would've been an interesting team. -

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ May 31, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> KW has had the highest payroll in the AL central every year since 2001 and has won one division. He needs to go, its his time. Clean out the organization, its clear we are not headed in a great direction. Our minor leagues are horrible and our major league team is old and slow, worst possible combo. Promote Rick Hahn who is a more numbers guy and not a feel guy and lets see where he takes us. Before the season started, the Twins had a higher payroll in 2003, and the Indians had a higher payroll in 2002. The problem simply isn't just one person. It's the mix between the coaches and the front office. You really think this is the team Ozzie wants on the field? Did KW really want to move McCarthy and give Tracey away for nothing? I think the Sox would be better off with KW than Ozzie just because of how much KW has grown since taking over the GM role. His 2003 team was really good, his 2004 team was really good but lost its two star hitters in July. 2005- eh, he was ok. 2006 he was smart in recognizing the team couldn't stand still, but really downgraded the bullpen, and he made a questionable trade with Vazquez, a guy he always wanted. Still, the Sox won 90 games despite being a third place team. 2007- Moves aren't looking good at all. We knew Sisco had a long way to go, but his obsession with particular players took over again with Erstad, and he didn't move a fan favorite grinder in Joe Crede like he did with Rowand. Somebody needs to make some changes, and that's in KW's control. -

QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2007 -> 07:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You know it's bad when I hold Kenny Williams more accountable for this team sucking than Ozzie Guillen. But really the guys you couldn't move aren't contributing. Konerko, Dye (getting there,) Iguchi are huge factors to this team and yet the best way our coaches can explain it is to "look at the back of their baseball cards." I thought Ozzie said to quit living in the past. Crede needs to be left behind. The Sox saw it in Loaiza, yet missed it completely with Joe. Pods isn't hurting this team, but he really is a waste of $2.9 million. The Erstad signing wasn't necessary, and now that is looking like a waste of money. Someone needs to be put on notice. Perhaps he/they have and it hasn't been released, but I'm not keeping my hopes up. -

QUOTE(diegotony06 @ May 31, 2007 -> 07:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> People who want Jerry Owens may get their wish now Ozzie must be praying for KW not to bring up Anderson right now. What exagerations has Hawk made about Erstad's contributions so far? -

Bye Darin, but I'm not jumping for joy because I expected him to get signifcantly hurt a some point this season. Halladay should just intentionally walk the first tow batters and let the Sox run themselves/GIDP out of the inning. -

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ May 31, 2007 -> 08:20 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I fixed that for you. When they take on a pro-second amendment case or two, let me know. It has been mentioned several times, mostly by crimsonweltall, that the ACLU views the second amendment as a group's right, not an individual's. I'm not saying they are right, but with the way the second amendment is written (a well regulated militia) I can understand. -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 30, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Umm most posters at this site were ecstatic to claim Jenks off waivers, im pretty sure it was probably the same at WSI too Very few expected Jenks to contribute at the Major league level in 2005. Nobody predicted he would be closing out the World Series as a rookie.

Claiming Jenks off of waivers. I knew this would be a huge move for the Sox whereas more posters just saw him as a troubled minor leaguer.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ May 30, 2007 -> 01:58 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You know full well that there is a huge amount of people in this country that can barely even say '12th grade' much less graduate from it. What are they to do? I am not saying they should aspire to do migratory farm work, but isn't that better than being drain on society and a useless piece of s*** that everyone looks down upon? During the Great Depression you had people willing to do any honest work available to survive. Now, not so much. There is your labor pool to replace/suppliment the illegals. ...and as Americans they will make ridiculous demands for low labor skilled jobs with the results being: A) They'll get it screwing over the middle class, customers, and the business owner B) Won't get it resulting in them being in the situation they are in now. Not working, looked down upon, and being a drain on society. I don't want want to pay much higher prices because the fry guy is demanding $12 per hour and health insurance.
