QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 4, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What the hell are you talking about? Milledge, as a 21 year old, put up an .828 OPS in his first year at AAA, while Anderson, as a a 23 year old, put up a .829 OPS. Oh, and Milledge's league, IIRC, was a much harder league to hit in. Ditto Jeremy Reed. Milledge is a much better prospect than either of those two ever were, no comparison. I'll believe it when I see, and yes I watched him play with the Mets last year. Reed was 22 when he put up monster numbers in Birmingham. There's no way in hell I trade a starting pitcher who is injured, has a questionable attitude, and puts up numbers down in the minors comparable to guys we have had over the past decade. If there's one strong point of the Sox's farm system, it's OF development.

Nasty pitch. 6 IP, 6 H, 2 BB's, 6 K's 1 ER Only one of those hits was extra bases, and that was Grinderstad's f***up. I'll take that line all the time. Am I the only one who remembers how unhittable Contreras was until June last season?

QUOTE(fathom @ May 4, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I really don't know how much value Contreras will have with 2 yrs left on his deal at a significant amount when you add in his declining stuff. I assume you're referring to Ordonez and Lee when it comes to developing outfielders. We have no one close to their power potential in the minors right now. Well considering you're 5 feet from the ledge because of Chris Young, I'll chalk him up too. Reed put up better numbers than Milledge in the minor leagues as well. Anderson has had better minor league seasons than Milledge too.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 4, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Did KW just get extremely lucky in the offseason before 2005, or has he just had bad luck since then? The only real signing that KW made that he didn't want to do was sign AJ, and that was AFTER he contacted "his people" about AJ's character. Was he lucky that JR opened up his wallet a little more to sign Iguchi? Possibily. There was no luck in picking up Jenks for nothing or signing a crappy starter who had a good run as a closer (happens all the time.) Do you actually think Ozzie managed the 2006 and is managing the 2007 team like the 2005 team?

QUOTE(fathom @ May 4, 2007 -> 10:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why would it be horrible if you're clearing yourself of Jose's contract while adding an actual outfield prospect with a high ceiling. Another fantastic AB....is AJP the most overrated player in the AL Central? ....because you can get more for him. Is it a good trade for the Yankees to move A-Rod for Alex Gordon? In the long run Alex Gordon could be a good player and A-Rod could opt out of his contract, but the Yankees could get more for A-Rod. Gavin Floyd supposedly had a high ceiling as well. This organization has done a fine job of developing OF who put up better numbers than Milledge.

We have way too many #8 hitters in our lineup right now.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 4, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Contreras for Milledge. Boom, done. Horrible trade. We can get more than that. Why are you so obssesed with this guy? Is it because Beane showed interest in him?
-
So Ozzie calls for the hit and run on a 2-2 count with two outs resulting in JD swinging at absolute s***. Gotta love the smallbrain, I mean smallball mentality. EDIT: Yahoo is telling me it was 2 balls, not a full count. Which is it?

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 4, 2007 -> 10:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Honestly, I don't care if Sweeney hits .220 this season, I'd love to see the Sox just say 'f*** it' and keep him up here the whole season. Despite the fact that Sweeney has never dominated a level, the Sox have always pushed him. Why not keep him up here for the whole season? He's going to be part of the future outfield eventually, let him get his lumps this year. It's simple; People are always going to think of Brian Anderson in 2006 when you suggest this idea Nice Grind out No thank you.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 4, 2007 -> 10:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yahoo says 1 ER Oh good.
-
Contreras is pitching better than his line indicates as statistically he shoud have two earned runs (they better get that changed) and if Brian Anderson was in CF, it'd be 1 ER. I thought he was squeezed on the first batter of the game as well

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 4, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And every Royals' fan thinks that getting anything in return for MacDougal is a good deal because 1) his control, 2) his injury history. He's not a reliable closer over an entire season. He's never put together two good halves in a single season. Royals fans are morons. They could've gotten more for MacDougal, easily. This is the same fan base that would rather see their team get 13 hits instead of winning. They also thought their magical 3rd place finish in 2003 would lead them to the promised land after signing Benito Santiago and Juan Gonzalez. DJ? Are you kidding me? Rob didn't run down the line like that in his first at-bat.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 4, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How many closers are perfect? He had a horrible ball called in that match-up...the calls goes the other way and he's out of the game with a save. By your logic, we don't have any pitchers in our bullpen after Jenks capable of closing. MacDougal has never had success as a closer? How do you know Thames wouldn't done anything on an 0-2 pitch?

The Angels' new CF doesn't seem to have problems with the high flyballs tonight.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 4, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Aardsma could take over as closer...I just don't think you trade Jenks when his value is about as high as Joe Crede... Um, no. Did you watch the Detroit game? Nice job JD. KEEP THE LINE MOVING!!!
-
Wait, I thought the way Darin slides hard into was good thing and is something the team needed. Perhaps we should sent Iguchi back down in the order???
-
Now how the hell is that 4 earned runs for Contreras? - E. Aybar reached on bunt single to pitcher - S. Hillenbrand reached on fielder's choice, E. Aybar to third on pitcher J. Contreras' throwing error (should be 1) - M. Napoli doubled to center, E. Aybar scored, S. Hillenbrand to third - C. Figgins grounded out to third (should be 2) - R. Willits flied out to left (should be 3) - O. Cabrera singled to left center, S. Hillenbrand and M. Napoli scored - G. Matthews Jr. flied out to left And that's not including Napoli's "double"

QUOTE(fathom @ May 4, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Remember how intolerable the city got in 2003? Also, working with a lot of Cubs fans can get quite awful if they win. If the Sox aren't going to make the playoffs, then I hope the Cubs don't also. They aren't going to win even if they make it to the playoffs, and we don't need to talk about stuff 5 months from now. Come on. This is a SOX game thread. /ballgame Remember the good old days when we used to pound Escobar. Contreras can thank Grinderstad for those earned run(s).
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 4, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I just pray the Cubs don't make the playoffs. Who cares about the Cubs? Seriously. We have our championship. I just want to stop playing stupid baseball. It's one thing to be bad or play a bunch of rookies, but these are silly mistakes and weak plate appearances.

f*** you team. So how good is Erstad's defense again? HE PLAYED IN THE f***ING BALLPARK FOR A GOD DAMN DECADE!!!!

Please. Just a single!

Couch rips the White Sox for "staying put"
santo=dorf replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox didn't "stay put," they made some bad moves. -
Man, how will she respond when this comes up in her next job interview?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 3, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think the 2nd one is my favorite. I love the flashback scenes to Vito Corleone as he was growing up and becoming the Don. Exactly my thoughts. GF2 >>>>>>>>>>> GF1 (overrated, but still great.) Watched Dr. Strangelove the other night and thought it was horrible. I didn't get it at all (to be fair, I was really tired and on night medicine.) Fracture was pretty good. Never seen any of the Spiderman movies, and am looking forward to the new Batman. American Physco is so awesome, I'm starting to model myself after Bale's character. I'm growing my hair long to slick it straight back (hasn't been this long and years,) and started doing more ab crunches. I can do 50 of them.
