  1. I wish they would split the rosters so all the crusierweights were on ECW and Smackdown, and a majority of the meatheads and women were on Raw. Tag teams would be allowed to "float" between all the brands. The ECW title should be the new WWE Hardcore title. It doesn't have to be the 24/7 rule or cotton candy "weapon" shots. Just some out of the ring action including pinfalls.
  2. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Now, you may accuse me of cherry picking, but I wouldn't count 2006 towards the total since many of the pitchers are too soon in their development. So what's with that 10 years crap in your sig? I asked you before; isn't unfair to expect draft picks from at least two years ago to make any kind of contribution at the major league level?
  3. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're right to assume not many top-line starters emerge from those picks. However, there are quite a number of legitimate major league pitchers and prospects: Since 2000: -Adam Wainwright -Boof Bonser -Noah Lowry -Jeremy Bonderman -Joe Blanton -Matt Cain -Chad Cordero -David Aardsma -Chad Billingsley -Adam Miller -Glen Perkins -Philip Hughes -Eric Hurley -Matt Garza It's not impossible to make a good selection at our draft position. So over the past 7 drafts, covering 70 picks, you found 14 names, only 20%, were "good" picks. One of them is on our team as well and only another 5 have actually done something worth a damn in at the Major league level WHICH COUNTS THE MOST. How come you act like it's only the Sox who are pumping out the other 90% of picks that aren't doing anything in the MLB. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How's it being picky to know about a free agent we signed that wasn't on our roster the previous year? Navarro definitely was a bust, and you could theoretically say that El Duque was as well. Dick Allen always talks about how lucky KW got in 2005 as the moves he wanted to make didn't happen for a reason or another, and he was able to make a much better move as a result. You are obviously setting a bias by asking about a specific dollar amount and you intentionally include the "not associated with our team" because Konerko was the obvious answer. El Duque was ok for the money he signed for, had a memorable postseason, and was part of the Vazquez trade in which we gave up the "future hall of famer" (yes, one poster actually described him as that.)
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is Contreras signed for another 2 full seasons? And obviously I meant a bidding war for a player not affiliated with our team. Christ, can you be any more pickier? Here's a fact, a majority of these free agent signings the past couple of offseasons for more than $6 million a year have SUCKED. I'm glad we didn't win the bidding war for Odalis Perez or Matt Clement. Same with Dave Roberts and Juan Pierre. Here's a question for you; when's the last time a Sox free agent signing was a total bust? Navarro?
  5. Wite, I was going to go through with it, but it was going to fall on deaf ears. Since when has the number of hits and stolen bases been the best indicator of who is the best offensive player on the team is? Erstad hasn't stolen a base in a week, and this team isn't stealing bases anyways. Now how is it 3 weeks is too early to evaluate a player yet apparently 1 month is an acceptable amount of time (over a 6 month season) is enough to tell people to eat crow? I don't recall anyone saying Brain was never going to be sent down during the season.
  6. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Uh-oh, Fathom. You use the R-word. Now people here are really going to flip out on you. As well as they should. That's quite a bold statement with little to no factual evidence. Why do people think this is the complete end of Anderson? What if Mack or Erstad gets hurt? (assuming it's not within the next two days.) What exactly has Eduardo Perez been up to lately? Does he still want to play?
  7. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 02:40 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Except if that scenario would have went down Konerko wouldn't have popped up to RF. He would have grounded out weakly to the sS. ....and that would've scored a run.
  8. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 01:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Seriously though, Cezar Izturis? Cesar plays for the Cubs.
  9. QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 08:36 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Did he learn how to take a walk this offseason? Is he being pitched around? He's going to eclipse his 2006 walk total in a couple weeks at this rate. Do one for Uribe.
  10. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 10:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How is Rowand any different from Erstad, except Erstad is more fundamentally sound and a better all-around player? More power, less injury prone, and he's having a much better 2007 season.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 08:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They're playing too well. I had thought of that. I honestly think we might bring back Timo. Both Jenkins and Mench were whining about a platoon. We'll see what happens. I can't imagine KW making a move this early.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Find a guy who will be a FA after this year or can play in LF. I know some might hate him, but Jacque Jones is someone who could really help this team. Geoff Jenkins.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who are we facing in the Seattle series? Washburn was been pitching well. That's not good for us. Man, Boras wasn't kdding about Weaver being ML ready when he was originally drafted.
  14. QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 07:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Whenever the Sox are on TV here and I watch, Konerko always gets singles up the middle. I rarely see him jack. Singles are good, though. Considering Rowand is batting .400 right now, I don't think you are completely off your rocker.
  15. QUOTE(Hawkfan @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> can someone explain to me what RS and RA is.. can anyone do these equations or is there information that we don't have? RS= run scored RA= Runs allowed. Apparently when a team scores 9 runs instead of 7, it has much more impact than a team scoring 3 runs instead of 1. This may sound like it doesn't make any sense, but I rather give up one less run than score one less run over a course of a season. Obviously RA correlates to the quality of a pitching staff, and RS gives a really good idea how good an offensive is. I'm sure a lot of us feel pitching > than offensive in the game in baseball, so RA is more important than RS. Of course in the pythagorean record determination it treats each one equally. That's a major flaw in the system. EDIT: I wonder if anyone has tried messing with the root power of the RS and not making it equally and seeing how it fits the data.
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 09:11 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who cares about spring training. He looks like a complete piece of s*** at the plate and in the field right now. FTFA: Our own manager, AKA the guy in charge of making all the freakin' moves, cares about spring training.
  17. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 05:20 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...-ssep28.article Tons of great quotes for Ozzie haters to sink their teeth into...since many feel that BA won the job in ST. Brian had a better spring than Darin so why does he deserve the shaft?
  18. Easiest bet in baseball: Ervin Santana. Bet against him on the Road, and on him at home.
  19. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Todd Jones isn't great either, but he's effective. It would be no less nerve-wracking than our current bullpen. We're setting up for blown save #7 already. The Twins won't do that in an entire season. Borowski and Jones belong nowhere near our bullpen. You are seriously on some serious s***. Think we should give Rod Beck a call as well?
  20. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> there's your answer. s***. the angels pen > sox pen You realize the Angels only have one guy with an ERA under 4 in their pen, correct? EDIT: Not sure if Bootcheck is still with the team. Juan more than halfway to his 2006 walk total.
  21. Wasn't Kotchman the guy who hit a three run homer off of Contreras in 8th at Anaheim during the regular season of 2005.
  22. I wouldn't have mind Nixon as a platoon player, but I thought Jose Cruz Jr. would've been a good partner for Mack.
