Report: highly enriched U235 found in Iran
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to Balta1701's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ May 14, 2006 -> 12:32 AM) Everything I've ever been taught about International Relations tells me its absolutely a good idea, especially when you're talking about a window of years, not months. Thats exactly what people said in the early/mid 90's about North Korea. Oh we have time, nothing to worry about. Look where that got us. The "diplomacy" we're engaged in is a sham designed by the Iranians to buy time for them to complete work on a bomb. The idea that they're 10 years or so away from a bomb is a shaky estimate at best and does not account for the fact that they are swapping nuclear technology with the N. Koreans in exchange for desperately needed oil and other goods. Iran is a ticking time bomb. Literally. -
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 14, 2006 -> 11:50 AM) You and the other 29% of Americans must be proud of this administration. The world is a nasty place full of people who would do us all manner of harm if given half a chance. Its becomming painfully clear in the last couple of years that Americans increasingly dont have the balls to deal with a protracted fight against terrorism. They want to be fat and lazy, drive their gas-guzzling SUV's and pretend everything is peachy and then they want to b**** and whine about everything under the sun when things dont go their way. They want to cry when the price of gas goes up or file a lawsuit because eating too much McDonalds made them obese or complain that their jobs are going overseas when they demand benefits out of any proportion to the menial work they're doing. The war against Islamo-fascism is only just starting. This movement is an order of magnitude more dangerous than the Soviet threat ever was and it is coming of age at a time when Americans are getting much softer and pussified. If we lose the war against terrorism it wont be because we are fighting the wrong battles, it'll be because of a bunch of gutless cowards here at home who can't stomach doing what needs to be done to keep America safe.

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 14, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) So, explain how your program works? What are you doing with the existing population, where are the replacement workers coming from, and what are the budget implications? Ok. The NUKE_CLEVELAND immigration reform plan. -Guest worker program. That fills the need for migrant labor picking fruit or whatever it is they're needed for and if they want to become full citizens then let them stand in line like everybody else. -Border fence all along the Mexican frontier save for places where it isn't practical like over mountains. Those regions can be covered by UAV's and if anyone makes it all the way across they would be snatched up by heli-borne teams of BP agents. Have the fence guarded by Border Patrol and National Guard troops until the BP can be fully staffed and funded. -Take away all social services from illegal aliens save for emergency medical care. We can recoup funds spent on that by cutting off foregin aid to Mexico and re-directing that money to paying back the states who are forced to deal with these people. -Its also time to seriously crack down on business who hire illegals. Give business a 6 month grace period to purge their rolls of undocumented workers and replace them with new hires from the guest worker program. After that........ICE comes in and starts randomly checking records to ensure things are on the up and up. If caught in violation levy massive fines. Fines that would eliminate the incentive to exploit migrant labor. The only way to change bad business behavior is to hit them in the pocketbook. Additionally, ensure that these people are being paid at least the federal minimum wage. -Make English the official language of this country. When my ancestors came to this country they had a choice. They could either work hard and assimilate or they would fall by the wayside. It should be no different for immigrants today. I don't see any reason why this country, or any other for that matter, should bend into 5 different contorted positions to accomodate these people. Before you go on about too much stick and not enough carrot, remember that illegal aliens are just that. Illegal. They are criminals from the moment they set foot on U.S. soil and the Mexican government and U.S businesses are complicit in all of it. Im in favor of immigration but it has to be done in a controlled and orderly fashion. This business of people running across the border in the dead of the night has got to stop.

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 14, 2006 -> 10:50 AM) As I stated, the costs would be there regardless of documented or undocumented. Our unemployement rate remains low, and has been for decades. Leading me to conclude that we actually need these workers. So how about using those fence funds to deal with our own poor people? Id rather use monies being wasted on educating, providing health care and welfare for a group of people who don't even belong in this country in the first place.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ May 14, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) It's sad when citizens are expected to toe the party line and support everything a party does. If someone wants to call it liberal hypocrisy to now support everything, so be it. I am scared when people stop thinking for themselves and just pledge allegiance to one party and everything they do. That would be a valid argument if myself and the others on this board were on record back in 1994 as opposing these types of measures.

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 14, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) Tough on crime by executing criminals for any offenses, and toss in the occassional assassination of a foreign leader, and you'd have a great day. So why is it we try and stop other countries who do that stuff? Now you're putting words in my mouth. People should only receive the death sentence for the most heinous of crimes. Additionally, if we whacked every tin pot dictator who gave us a hard time then Chavez, Evo Morales, Castro and that nutjob in Iran would all be on the receiving end of a JDAM or 3.

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 14, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) And a guest worker program, that allows for workers that America needs, is controlled, and allows for citizenship after a set criteria is met, solves this without turning the border into a prison zone. It allows for the economic benefits that border communities derive from Mexican tourists. It allows for the labor that American industries need. Yes, poor people cost us billions of dollars, no matter their citizenship. Poor people don't pay much, if any, in taxes, so that is a false argument. It isn't their legal status that costs billions, it's their income. Replace undocumented with documented, and the cost is still there. Make immigration easier, resulting in less resources necessary to enforce the law, costs us less. This isn't about securing the borders, it's about controlling Mexican immigration. That can be accomplished without spending billions on a 2000 mile long fence. This issue has been around forever. Interesting timing that conservatives all of a sudden want to make it our nation's #1 problem. Well at least you acknowledge that they're costing us billions of dollars. Now how about using those funds to deal with our own poor people instead of letting Vicente Fox export his own poverty problem to the US?

As much as they blow ass these days does anyone really listen or watch or even care anymore? I guess this isin't a big deal anyhow.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 13, 2006 -> 09:50 PM) One other thought. GWB has an evening televised appearance scheduled for Monday. Either they knew this was comong down the pike and that's what the conference is all about - an attempt at damage control, or else it was completely unrelated but will now no doubt be what the appearance has to be about. If the latter is the case, I bet they sure want to cancel that appearance. Here comes that 20% approval rating. . . Uhhh. His Monday night address is supposed to be about immigration.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 14, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) Does "relucantly compliant" translate into "crying like a helpless baby who had to be dragged to the plane."? That's what Im thinking. LOL!!!!!! I wish I could have video of it all to post on Al Jazerra. Let Muslim scum worldwide see their hero being led off in chains and sobbing like a little girl. f***ing priceless!!!!! QUOTE(Texsox @ May 14, 2006 -> 10:28 AM) Our constitution really takes away all your fun. Ironically, you would have a much better time working for the types of regimes the US is fighting. Torture? Check. Spying on citizens? Check. Military patrols in civilian areas? Check. Torture: As long as its done to the deserving I have no problem with it whatsoever Spying on Citizens: I really don't care if Michael Hayden or anyone else at NSA has my number and knows I ordered pizza last night. Military Patrols in Civilian areas: Isin't that the role of the National Guard when state and local authorities can't handle the situation?

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 14, 2006 -> 10:21 AM) ^^^^^^^^ LMAO. Why did stopping Mexican poor people become our worse problem requiring billions of dollars and resources? Perhaps Republicans are looking for something to divert our attention from all the legal troubles at the White House? Reagan solved this by offering amnesty. Bush offered a guest worker program. Conservatives are so desperate for something to divert attention they are fighting the boogey men. We need a fence to save us from illiterate Mexcians or else our society is doomed, doomed we say! Don't stop and think that the worst terrorists in our history where either US citizens, trained by the US military, or came in through Canada. Doomed if we don't build a wall. We will be destroyed by gardners and farm workers You're arguments are reduced to making fun of others in this issue and that's what's truly funny. Reagan didn't solve anything with his amnesty, he made the situation far worse. Bush is taking the right step forward with his guest worker program but thats all it is is a first step. You have to have a stick to go along with the carrot. Those "harmless" farmers and gardners are costing states billions of dollars a year, destroying the lives of farmers and ranchers who reside along the border and allow the Mexican government to export its problem to the United States. But you're too busy laughing to see any of this. :rolly

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 14, 2006 -> 10:13 AM) http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/05/13/moussaou...ison/index.html They should have flown him out to one of our "secret prisons" in the Middle East or Eastern Europe and let some CIA attack dogs have their way with him but I guess this will do.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ May 13, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) Its truly staggering to me that people on this board who align themselves with the GOP are OK with this. I've voted for Republican Prez candidates more than Dems over the years, and for a long time, I stood firmly with many of the tenets of the Grand Old Party - smaller government, local control, fiscal discipline, etc. And yet here is another program in a list of many which absolutely flies in the face of some of these principles, and there are people who STILL stand by it. They are forced to use arguments that make those core principles seem irrelevant or non-existent, just to defend the actions of people who happened to also be Republicans. To me, this is akin to the people who try to defend the Catholic Church's complete ineptness in handling molestation, simply because they are Catholic. For me, if I am part of an organization, religion or political party that is chipping away at the very principles that drew me to it, I am MORE inclined to call them on it. Not less. Evidently it's not just the GOPers who are ok with this. http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/05/14/coverstory.tm/index.html The only reason anyone knew about this is because of investigative journalism. It does not create a perceptible intrusion in my life or anyone elses and it keeps us safe. Hence, I approve. QUOTE(samclemens @ May 14, 2006 -> 08:51 AM) http://www.nysun.com/article/32651 "It was President Clinton who signed into law the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act of 1994, after it was passed in both the House and Senate by a voice vote. That law is an act "to make clear a telecommunications carrier's duty to cooperate in the interception of communications for law enforcement purposes, and for other purposes." The act made clear that a court order isn't the only lawful way of obtaining call information, saying, "A telecommunications carrier shall ensure that any interception of communications or access to call-identifying information effected within its switching premises can be activated only in accordance with a court order or other lawful authorization." liberal hypocrisy, straight up. Yeppers. Now that its a Republican doing the wiretapping and intercepting their panties are all in a bunch. That was an all Democratic government that passed that law as well.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 14, 2006 -> 12:56 AM) What do you mean secure from what? Secure speaks for itself. If erecting a 2000 mile wall is what it takes to secure the damn borders then build it. I don't want anybody in this country who's very first act is to disregard and violate our laws. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ DING DING DING!!!!!

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 13, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) The Cubs went into the 9th inning with a 3-1 lead, and Mike Piazza hit a 3 run HR. Cubs vs Padres They have now lost 13 or their last 15. LMFAO!!!!! They are on a fast track straight to hell the way they're going. And I couldnt be any happier.

http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/ I absolutely LOVE this site.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 13, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) And the signal gets incredibly spread out and fuzzy where as you buy the extra innings and get a damn good picture. I wouldn't know. I usually have the MLBTV window open in a corner of my laptop screen while I work on assignments for school.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 13, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) All that had to happen was for the Blackhawks to step up and say no. Hell they are part owners of the damned network in the first place! There is no doubt in my mind the Hawks are letting this happen, if nothing else through omission. I bet they're doing this because Foley had the audacity to ask for a 3% cost of living raise this year.

QUOTE(WCSox @ May 13, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) Yes, but the feed is also very choppy at times and I want to watch games on the 27" in my livingroom. Extra Innings is more expensive, but I still get about 20 games/month. I just can't believe that Comcast out here doesn't even give you the option of adding WGN to your package. It's ridiculous. If you want to watch a net feed on your TV I think you can provided you have an S-Video cable.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 13, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) Nice to see our own fans turn on our players so quickly, especially after what Jon did last season. Contract year dude. Now that he got his money he's back to his old form. We all talked about the possibility of this happening.
-
RIP EM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 13, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) Secure from what? You honestly don't think that erecting a 2000 mile wall, costing hundreds of billions of dollars, is an over reaction? Are we so afraid of illiterate Mexican peasants we need a wall to protect us? More like 5 billion from various estimates Ive heard. Like I said in a previous thread.........slice 5 billion off the bloated defense budget and get it done.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ May 13, 2006 -> 01:59 PM) I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow night, because I don't get WGN out here and InDemand won't air games that WGN carries over the Extra Innings package. MLBTV is a viable option instead. Youll get the home feed from wherever they're playing but at least all games are televised. Its cheaper than the extra innings package also.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 13, 2006 -> 09:27 AM) Whatever it takes to secure our border. ^^^^^ DING DING DING!!!!! BTW. Bush is set to make a big speech on immigration reform on Monday which is thought to include proviions for deploying the Guard along the border to beef up the border patrol. COULD IT BE THAT BUSH IS FINALLY WILLING TO DO SOMETHING CONCRETE TO STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION?!?!?!?! I wont hold my breath but Im hopeful.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ May 13, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) Here is a AP story on the second round of testing http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12762368/ I wonder why they don't mention the last guy? Could he be a non-white non-Lacrosse player? How much you want to bet he's not even on the team? Methinks the DA is royally f***ed.
