Johnny Estrada is 28. He never had a starting gig until this year. Maybe when Davis turns 28 he will become more comfortable and learn how to hit as well. Ben Davis' Defense and arm excites me. His hitting and speed does not.
-
I think we can get Estrada without giving up Maggs. That is the only part of the deal I like. There is no need to part with Maggs if we don't have to.
-
i would be all for that depending on the prospects.
-
Didn't we just draft a catcher in the 2nd or third round and receive a 27 year old Ben Davis back in this deal? There are your prospects.
-
THere is no way that Jones is a leadoff hitter. 7 out of 9 are righties including the top 5. No thanks. Why not go after Griffey Jr at this point. I like him better than Andruew Jones. Plus he is a lefty with power we can stick in the middle of the order to break up all of the right handed power. He plays a very good CF as well.

I am definate I am talking about you. There is not a doubt in my mind.

Entering his prime? A CFer with two bad knees at the age of 27? He is not the fielder he once was I don't care how many gold gloves he has won or world series rings he has. We are not trading for his past ABOZ, we are trading for what he will do for us this year and the next 3. I don't care what he did in the past, but thank you for sharing that. I have heard insiders speak of Andruw Jones as a player that is not the same as he used to be. If he is so great then why the hell are the Braves desperately trying to deal him? Wouldn't this gold glove, all star, ring bearing player at the age of 27 just entering his prime be a cornerstone to a franchise? There has to be a reason and the reason is he is not a player entering his prime, rather he is a player that is damaged goods. A CFer with bad knees that will not be playing CF much longer, which is his most valuable asset to a team like the White Sox. Come one now lets think about this. We better be getting much more than this for Magglio IMHO.
-
Hell no! I don't want a has been CFer with bad knees who has been in decline and a pitcher who walks 4-5 batters per 9 innings. I better get a hell of a lot more than that in return for Maggs. If not, then this trade is s*** and doesn't improve our team at all!
-
Then I don't trade Maggs it is as simple as that. I am not trading Maggs to get a broken down CF and a pitcher who walks 4 batters per 9 innings. I better be getting more than that. If you don't think that is right, then you are crazy and/or fooling yourself.

While the swap of Ordonez for Jones would enable the Braves to slash payroll and instantly upgrade an offense that has struggled this year, this rumor, like many other that will pop up during the coming weeks, appears to be pure speculation. Enough said.
-
Someone is talking out of their ass. Jones' production has been slipping for a while plus he has bad knees. If you give up Maggs for Jones you better get Ortiz AND Estrada with him. If not then that deal is f***ed up.
-
Why is this? Rowand is younger and has more power and about the same OPS. Talk about overpaying for a guy.
-
I would absolutely hate that. I remember asking him if Maggs was involved and he looked at me like I was crazy. He said absolutely not.
-
Did you read the whole thing? There is no way it is only Estrada for Rowand. That is all I can remember.
-
Umm, he is 28. 3 years older than Olivo and 1 year older than Ben Davis. His first full year in the majors came a little late. I don't think he is comparable to Joe Mauer, but ok.
-
I have no problem with that. But Rowand went from being a part time player to lpaying just about full time. Willie was hitting good as well, so there really was no reason to make him full time. Again I have no problem with Rowand, sorry if it rubbed you the wrong way The Cheat.
-
I don't know but he is only making 312,500 this year. Rowand is making $340,000 this year. Basically a wash.
-
Just wondering. A friend of mine told me about this earlier today and says that he knows someone in the know. I am just taking this for what it is worth, but checking to see if anyone else has heard anything like this. Supposedly a deal with Atlanta involving at least Rowand for Estrada. There may be more players involved, but that is all I can remember from what my friend told me. Please give me any feedback if you have heard anything about this. I have been searching the net all day trying to find something significant to back this up, however I can't. It would make sense for why Kenny traded away Olivo and why Rowand has been getting so much playing time though.

How much bitching have you heard from Cub fans

Is Bernstein still blabbering about how much better the Cubs team is than the White Sox? -
I wasn't expecting anything less from you Brando. Stupid predictions followed by moronic comebacks.
-
That is correct. They were never looking at Rauch and a catcher was always needed to be included in the deal. I don't know what Brando is smoking to think that some version of Rauch/Reed/Morse would have been good enough to get Garcia. That was never the case. That is why this is said to have been a better fit than both the Yankees and Dodgers proposals, because our catcher is more ready than theirs.
-
Wasn't Girardi and Posada platooning at catcher for the Yankees in 98 and 99? I thought they were, but I could be wrong. Just trying to help out your example as Girardi was just a complementary player that could call a good game and was good defensively.
-
Go figure. You not loving the White Sox part of a deal? WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT? I for one am stunned.
-
Oh, I dunno, I go by reports from people that spend more time than you ACTUALLY WATCHING HIM PLAY! From all the scouting reports I have read he does not have above average speed, he has no power and has never had power, and has no arm. So he hits above .300 in the minors. So has Willie Harris. Since when does that project to hitting over .300 in the majors? We will just have to agree to disagree as I see him being nothing more than Mark Kotsay. You think he is going to be some kind of an all star. We will just have to wait to find out. By the way, very good prediction on the Cubs series. That starting pitching of theirs really kicked our ass.

The season is official over....

Wierd. Before the cubs series you kept on blabbering about how the cubs rotation was going to hold us down and how we were going to get killed. What happened? How could we possibly take 2 out of 3 from a team like the cubs? How can we possibly beat that starting rotation?
