  1. To me, looking at our payroll, spending that kind of money on a corner outfielder doesn't make any sense to me. I would rather spend it on pitching or a player up the middle. We will need a SS go get one. We could use a CF, get one of those too. For this money, plus Jose's money, and Koch's money we can get quality at SS, CF, and pitching. I say let the jamoke walk and see what he does for the team that gets him. I hope San Diego finishes the season badly then they overpay for him and we get a high draft pick.
  2. f*** Magglio, I don't even want him anymore. The line up doesn't seem to be missing him either. I say good riddance. Trade him for some pitching, possibly Randy Johnson and bring up Borchard or Reed. We could use a Lefthanded bat in the lineup anyways.
  3. 2 blown saves out of 6 chances. I don't care how you want to rationalize it to make him look better. In save situations he is only 4 out of 6. That is not good.
  4. Both were while setting up? I think not. One was coming in in the 9th to close it out. It was the 2nd game of a double header when against Pitt. The one where Borowski blew the first game and threw way to many pitches to pitch in the 2nd game. Hawkins blew that game. He did not come in as a set up guy, he came in as the closer. The other one he blew I don't remember. Any more words of wisdom?
  5. 67% of normal save chances for a closer would not only equal out to a blown save per month. It would be way more than that. He is a Cub and a former Twin, so I could really care less.
  6. Maggs will rush himself back. Remember this is his contract year. He wants to get back ASAP and put up the most numbers he can.
  7. Yeah, umm, thank God your a White Sox fan and not a White Sox hater. I coulnd't imagine what your posts would look like then. You fail to mention how the Sox starting pitching is pretty damn good as wel and the Cubs lineup is not anywhere near what the Sox lineup is. Always the pessimist. Whatever.
  8. eye, what do you want them to do after all the fights and everyone starting to call Tuesday nights Tuesday Night Fight Night. Do you know of another soluthion? I don't think they are trying to alienate fans, rather they are trying to make the fans that come to WATCH the White Sox feel safe and comfortable while doing so.
  9. Doesn't Hawkins already have a couple blown saves this year? I believe he has 4 saves and 2 blown saves this year. I don't think you want a 67% chance from your closer to save the game. That is this years stats, so I don't know how much he has matured.
  10. Manager Ozzie Guillen dropped hints on Monday that he could be turning to Takatsu as the White Sox's new closer, the Chicago Daily Herald reports. SPIN: "This guy [Takatsu] has been outstanding for us, brilliant," Guillen said. "I can count on him to pitch in any situation. He didn't save all of those games in Japan by accident." If Guillen does indeed remove Billy Koch from the closer's role Damaso Marte may also get some situational opportunities, but Takatsu would probably get first crack at the job. I can only find things about Takatsu getting the job and not Damaso.
  11. So you specify all the negatives with their pitching against our offense. But how would their offense fair against our pitching? I say we have a big advantage there. I think we take at least 4 from the Cubs.
  12. When was it announced that Marte will be the closer and not Shingo? I am having trouble finding this anywhere.
  13. Does anyone think that money may be the answer here? Does Shingo have a clause in his contract similar to that of Hawkins with the more games he ends then he reaches a certain bonus?
  14. Hmm, Grafanino or Uribe? Hmm, Shingo or Gordon? I think we know the answers to both those questions. Plus we just got Giovanny Gonzalez for letting Tom Gordon go. So you are saying we miss these guys or that those guys are performing well?
  15. Donny Lucy General – An extremely talented and athletic catcher that is expected to possibly be a first round selection in the 2004 MLB First-Year Player Draft • Has great arm strength and is an excellent receiver defensively, as well as a potent bat offensively • Handles pitchers well • Has always had an excellent attitude and it has become his turn to be the team’s everyday catcher in 2004 • Performed well when he had a chance during his first two years but was forced to play a lot of either first base or designated hitter while behind First Team All-American Ryan Garko at the catcher position • Has increased the rate of his improvement while he gets a chance to play behind the plate consistently • One of the team’s fastest players and top baserunners. Do they not like Olivo? Do they plan on moving one of them to another position? A fast 1B would be nice.
  16. And look at how well those players are performing so far this year. We really miss them!
  17. I would really like Fields. He could be a really good 3B.
  18. ESPN Insider has us taking 3B Josh Fields while Drew goes 17 to St Louis and Weaver goes 23 to the Yanks. Then we take Jasn Vargas LHP from Long Beach St and catcher Jason Jaramillo number 38. That is according to ESPN Insider. Jaramillo #28 college prospect according to Baseball America. #27 by TeamOneBaseball. 3rd team preseason All-American by BA. Considered one of the top defensive players in all of college baseball. Shows good footwork, a strong arm and the ability to call a good game. Also shows promise at the plate with a good swing from both sides of the plate and decent gap power. Could be a solid all around catcher at the big league level, and should be a 2nd-3rd rounder come June. I would rather have BJ Szymanski from Princeton than Jaramillo Szymanksi #11 midseason college prospect according to Baseball America. Fastest rising positional prospect available for the 2004 draft. Extremely athletic player that also is an All-Ivy League wide receiver for the Princeton Tigers football team. Has great size at 6'5", and a fluid body. He runs extremely well, and covers a lot of ground defensively in CF. Szymanski is a switch-hitter, and has a good, level swing from both sides of the plate and good power potential. He makes good contact and has a decent eye at the plate. He is somewhat raw since he didn't play baseball during his freshman season at Princeton, but you don't find these kinds of 5-tool players at the college level very often.
  19. The Orioles are concerned about Ponson's weight and are beginning to question the decsion to give him a three-year $22.5 million contract in the offseason, the Washington Post reports. On Friday afternoon, less than 24 hours after the Orioles came home following a three-game sweep at the hands of the Yankees, the team's front office called together members of the medical and strength-and-conditioning staffs to discuss Ponson. The right-hander, 27, is 3-6 with a 6.48 ERA, the second-worst ERA among American League starters two months into the season. A team source said owner Peter Angelos "has been on the warpath" in discussions with the front office in recent days regarding Ponson. Anyone else glad the Sox didn't sign this guy?
  20. From what I read you are wrong. He has been the fastest rising player.
  21. The score reported Probert and a former score employee were ainvolved. Do you know who the former score employee was that was involved?
  22. Without looking at wins and losses, how much better are his numbers than Wright, Cotts, Diaz, Rauch...etc.? I know his numbers are not 11 million per year better. "Colon has turned in only one quality start in his past nine outings and might be irritated by more than just a stiff back." Hmmm, back problems for an overweight guy? Inconceivable! Colon's numbers :puke 12 Games Started 69 Innings Pitched 83 Hits 25 Walks 3 Hit Batters 1.61 WHIP 6.00 ERA
