  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How come Ozzie doesn't scream and throw water bottles and dress Juan Uribe down when he fails to execute a bunt? How come when Pods drops a ball and then takes his time going after it, Ozzie isn't waiting for him at the top step reaming him out? Rookies make mistakes. Every single one of them. Showing up your player like that will eventually bite you in the ass. Failing to get the bunt down is not the same thing as swinging away. If he does not put a bunt down on purpose then you are right, he should get the same beating. I don't know if Tracey didn't hit him on purpose, if he was afraid, or if he lacks that much control, but he didn't do it. If he really lacks that much control then he really shouldn't be on a major league roster. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Then why don't you enlighten us, oh informed one. :rolly On what happened during the game? I thought you just read the article. What the s***?!?! You came on here and asked what happened. You were the ignorant one because you lacked the knowledge and information. Hello McFly!
  2. QUOTE(Molto @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> here's a take on it some may find interesting... http://chicagosportsreview.com/inthemeanti...ew.asp?c=180572 personally, I think what Guillen did was uncalled for. you don't openly yell and rip a player in the dugout, especially after the player did nothing to deserve it. I get why he would mention Montero after the game, he's not going to say he had Tracey in there to hit someone, and the demotion, while weird at first, makes sense now with the Riske acquisition. still, horrible decision by Guillen... Deliberately not doing something your manager asked you to do makes it called for. He didn't follow his bosses orders. That is disrespecting his boss. He gets yelled at. End of story.
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There is no need for this. I don't read the damn papers and count on 99.9% of my news from you guys. You don't have to be ignorant. I'm not ignorant. I KNOW what happened. I am INFORMED of what happened. SoxFan is ignorant on this matter. And if that is what you mean then ok I agree. I don't believe for a second that you rely on the message board for 99.9% of the news. I am sure you listen to the radio, read the internet, and watch some TV. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Tracey's lack of control is a pretty good reason not to send him in to hit someone. Seriously, he could throw it at him and hit him in the head. As wild as Tracey was that game against Cleveland, you would have to think a ball intended for Blaylock's ribs or elbow could just as easily strike his coconut. Then he shouldn't be in the major leagues anyway. Good riddance.
  4. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We're only seeing from a television and newspaper view point and will never know what fully happened between Ozzie and Tracey. Unless Ron Kittle was in the dugout and decides to write another book.
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks everyone for not answering my question! s***, get a paper or read the article online. It's all over the place. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How many pitches did it take for Russ Springer to hit Bonds? How many wild pitches did Tracey throw against the Indians last Sunday? Perhaps he didn't find out that his message wasn't relayed until AFTER he decided to make an example of Tracey? I tend to agree with you, but we really don't know what happened. Russ Springer is an absolute moron. He is a terrible pitcher. I hope Sean Tracey is better than that.
  6. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Everyone has different opinions. Mine is that he shouldn't have chewed out Tracey in public. No one knows exactly what happened anyway. Ozzie was disrespected in public by Tracey. Ozzie has every right to do what he did.
  7. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What is the difference between Randy Johnson and Javier Vazquez????????? Randy Johnson defended a teammate and got tossed possibly costing his team the game. Vazquez was pitching like s*** and had nothing to lose after the 5th by hitting someone. Why not have him hit Blaylock and end his night anyway in the 7th????? I do not understand why Tracey was not left in there to hit the next guy. Why do we have to hit Blaylock??? Why not remove him drag him back to the clubhouse and berate him or wait until after the game if you want to prove a point ot the team. I find it hard to beleive that he was told to hit one guy or to hit someone was he t oexpect t oonly face one guy. s*** the guy is trying to stay in the majors I am sure he did not follow orders because he felt that was right. I expect Ozzie to smooth this over today and Tracey's thoguht to be heard. I think they were both wrong but Vazquez was the worse. Also why didn't Montero hit anyone its not like he had his good stuff going either. I don't know RJs situation. If both benches were warned and he still did it then there is no difference. Vazquez would have been automatically suspended if he hit him. Ozzie probably didn't want to lose him for any amount of time seeing as how our pitching staff is built on our starters.
  8. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 07:51 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> First, you don't know that he "deliberately" disobeyed Ozzie. Second, you don't rip him a new one infront of everyone. Especially not a rookie. Why don't you. If he disrespects you in front of everyone and doesn't do what you say then anything goes. Lets put this in better context. Ozzie was basically asking Tracey to sacrifice himself for the team. Much like he would ask someone to sacrifice bunt in the same situation. Now if that person decides to swing away instead of sacrificing he is going to get his ass chewed out in front of everyone. That is what happened here and it is much deserved. Plus, you can believe what you want. If he can't hit a hitter, whether he has no control or he was afraid to hit him, then he doesn't deserve to be in the major leagues. I believe he deliberately disobeyed him.
  9. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Did he deliberately disobey Ozzie? Tracey has no control and threw inside to Blalock twice. Is it possible that the message to hit Blalock was never actually relayed to Tracey? If Tracey refused to hit Blalock, I agree with you. But we don't know that for sure... and probably never will. If he really can't hit the batter when he is trying to then he doesn't deserve to be in the majors anyway. That is just ridiculous. As mad as Ozzie was I find it very hard to believe that the message was never actually relayed. You can believe what you want and I will believe what I want.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If we multiple this even year times the square root of Brett Saberhagens ERA, and multiple it by infitinity, David is still better than the 2006 version of Gas Can Clifford Politte. Dude, way too complicated. multiple and square root. Please lets just stick with even and odd numbered years. Jeeze.
  11. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ozzie was out of line to humiliate the guy. He was wrong for that. I feel really bad for Tracey, but I don't think he's ruined or has now become trade bait. Why was he out of line for that? He deliberately disobeyed Ozzie. That is disrespectful. He had a job to do and didn't do it. This is what he gets. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't respect my bosses a lot of the time. I don't, however, choose pubic as the time to tell them about it. Exactly. By Sean Tracey not doing what Ozzie said to do he publicly disrespected Ozzie. You wouldn't do that in public. Sean Tracey did. He had whatever he got coming to him.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I work in a very intense industry where millions dollars are at stake at every single second. Believe me, I understand what goes on in the the pressure aspect of things, maybe more so than professtional athletes whose contracts for the most part are guarenteed. Pods drops a fly ball in left, he doesn't lose a dime. I make an error on a trade, the potential losses are limitless. Many industries compare well to sports, we just aren't on TV. Compare in certain areas yes, but not this. There are analogies you can make between business and sports, yes. I agree. But certain things don't translate. This happens to be one of those things. Just like when KW went off on his filth flarn flarn filth media rampage. This wouldn't happen with a fortune 500 company at a media covered event. However, in sports it is done. I don't think this is all about pressure situations. I don't know if that is an aspect that differentiates professional sports from our every day lives. Sports in general can not compare to our every day jobs. Different rules and circumstances apply that just can not be compared. This happens to be one of them. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're right. My job is much more stressful. SSI.. please, I beg of you, don't try to dissect this. It's a very general characteristic to be respectful to others. Ozzie doesn't have much of it. He could be different if he chose to be, but he chooses not to be. It is what it is. It makes him who he is, and a big part of the reason this city loves him. I disagree. I think he is respectful when he is respected. If you do not follow your boses' orders then your boss will feel disrespected. How can you respect someone who you feel just disrespected you? Plus I never said your job was any more difficult or easier than a baseball player's or manager's job. They are just different and can not be compared in this area.
  13. I for one agree with what Ozzie did. He had to send a message that what he says goes. He can't tell the kid to do something and then have his orders dismissed as if they mean nothing. Do what your boss tells you to do. He can't have the players do whatever they want for their own selfish reasons. He has to let the rest of his players know that this won't fly. Plus why not send out a kid to do the dirty work. If he gets suspended, so what? We weren't going to miss him if he did.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I chew, and have been chewed... NEVER in front of peers. It is very hard to compare normal everyday things and your job to a team sport. It is a lot different.
  15. I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but he tends to do a lot worse in even numbered years. I don't know if that is a coincidence or not, but his WHIP goes up a lot in even numbered years. In odd numbered years it is under 1. And this being an even number year and all...... I mean I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.
  16. Anyone one of you guys listenting to these ESPN morons talking about who Kronk is, please don't believe them. Kronk is not the name of Eddie Murphy's character in Shrek. His name is simply Donkey. Kronk is a character in Emperor's New Groove. His voice was played by the guy that played Elaine's boyfriend (one of them), Puddy, in Seinfeld. I can't recall the guys real name. Don't listen to these two morons.
  17. QUOTE(shoota @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I appreciate Greg Walker's history with the Sox organization, but I'm interested in finding a hitting coach better than him. I want a hitting coach as good at his craft as Don Cooper is as pitching coach. Coop has the ability to find and fix fringe pitchers like Loaiza, Contreras and Thornton, and I'd like a hitting coach who could do the same with hitters. Isn't Greg Walker the one that everyone credits for Crede's turn around? That is what I have heard at least. Besides Uribe and Anderson, who is not hitting on this team anyway? This is the most ridiculous post I have seen yet.
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What exactly would that accomplish? It would weaken our offense and defense all in one dumbass move. FUN! Isn't that what I just said. Wait, maybe I am wrong, what exactly does ludicrous mean again? Oh yeah, here it is: Laughable or hilarious because of obvious absurdity or incongruity. Is there another way to use the word ludicrous? Let me see here, nope, no there isn't. That is the only meaning. So your opinion and my opinion of this move would be the exact same. To you it would be a "dumbass" move and to me it would be a "laughable or hilarious move becuase of its obvious absurdity or incongruity." Thank you for agreeing with me Kalapse.
  19. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 01:56 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> nightengale and KW are fairly tight, according to the grapevine. this has something to it. can the Dodgers also provide a CF? Maybe that is the move. Izturis takes over SS and Uribe to CF? Seems ludicrous to me, but didn't Uribe used to play CF or come up as a CFer with the Rocks?
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is what she told me. The Friday Sox/Cubs game I had to go to 3 different Jewel stores to get a Sox balloon. They all told me the stuff was flying off the shelves. Thank God the Trib hasn't gotten into the minds and brainwashed the good folks of Plainfield... ha ha!
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ^ I hate to admit it.. but when I went into Jewel the other day I saw no bags with Sox on them and I complained.. The Sox bags were all sold out. Sox stuff is a hot commodity right now. No one wants to go up to the counter with a Cubs bag. No one wants that shame and embarrassment.
  22. Page 18 of the May31-June 6 issue. "So far, '06 packed with surprises", by Bob Nightengale "Best General Manager: Ken Williams, White Sox" WIlliams acquired Thome, who's among the AL leaders in home runs and RBI and is hitting .292, and Vazquez, who has five wins, from the Diamondbacks in the offseason. And don't be surprised if Williams comes away with shortsop Cesar Izturis from the Dodgers." My question is if there is any truth to this rumor. Izturis is playing DH in the minors. How far along is his throwing after having TJ surgery? I think he is a hell of a player. Very good at getting on base, moving runners over, and good bat control and a good bunter. Plus he was an outstanding fielder. After TJ surgery I am not sure how great his arm is right now. Is Nightengale just mentioning something on a whim or does this actually have some substance to it?
  23. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That right now we really remind me of the 2004 Sox? In other words: feast or famine. We either crush them or we get shut out. Of course I'm generalizing and no, I am not throwing in the towel or claiming the sky is falling, but this Cleveland series is bringing back some unpleasant memories of '04 and how we could alternate between awesome and flat-out crappy. Hey I know the season's young and I'm hardly going code blue on this, but just thought I'd see if anybody else felt the same way. (Although one difference is that we actually swept the Angels IN Anaheim and Oakland here, so some things have changed). But man I miss the one-run wins with low scores when our pitching and defense was killing everybody and not really our bats... No, I really don't feel the same way. I think it is just you.
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Diamond Club. Now you can see why I didn't see it. Not even it's own topic. I would have to go all the way at the end of the thread to see it. Thanks Balta.
  25. Maroth Out I didn't see this posted. Please delete or merge or whatever if it has been already. Thanks. Sorry if I am repeating old info.
