  1. You can talk all you want about how you know the "nuances of the game". The Twins kicked the Sox's ass in every phase of the game in front of a huge crowd. The Sox gagged big time and Hunter drilled Burke to top it off. They won, the Sox lost. Stop crying. Win the game or shut up. I'm sick and tired of crying about the Twins and coming in second.
  2. Those are the comments of a loser. Hunter is laughing all the way to first place - again. Don't get so pissed off about a hard ass legal play. Win the f...ing game or go home crying.
  3. Agreed. Somehow the Twins always find a way to win just enough games to win the division and the Sox find a way to win just enough games to come in second.
  4. I agree with going after Beltran or Kendall. Taking on a large contract like either of these would probably be hard for JR to stomach but at least the Sox would probably have to give up relatively little in return for taking one of them over.
  5. This should have been done earlier in the season when Uribe was hot and Crede was the same as he is now - bad. I think consistent playing time for Harris at 2nd would have kept him in the leadoff position and allowed him to progress faster. Uribe took Harris' spot when he should have taken Crede's spot. Now Harris, Uribe and Crede are all in a funk. As for Crede's defense, those 2 pop flies in Oakland made me sick. :puke
  6. I think 2 years at 6 million per year is fair. If Crede didn't absolutely suck, the Sox could take a gamble on putting Uribe at short for a whole year. But with a 3rd baseman that can't hit and shows no sign of life, Uribe may have to play 3rd (assuming he starts showing some life himself).
  7. This starting pitcher was different. I think the main reason he re-signed with the Sox so quickly was his strong relationship with Ozzie - something like a son-in-law. I don't think it's a stretch to say the Sox would have signed him in the offseason. And Davis is a total zero, worthless. So, again, it's 3 months of Garcia for 5-6 years of Olivo/Reed/Morse.
  8. Getting Garcia was a good move - it's just that I think the Sox overpaid for him. I've said all along that if the Sox go to the WS, this deal was worth it. But if they don't, I think Seattle got a much better deal. Nobody knows what alternatives KW had so you can only evaluate the deal that was done.
  9. The comparison between Garcia/Davis with Reed/Olivo/Morse has got to be made in context. If you compare Garcia with the 3 guys we gave up, Garcia is probably worth it. But the correct comparison is 3 months of Garcia for the potential of 5-6 years of Reed/Olivo/Morse because I think the Sox had a great chance of getting Garcia in the offseason. When you make the comparison that way, it hardly seems worth giving up on those 3 guys. Yes, the Sox needed a starting pitcher. It isn't that I don't think KW should have gone out and got one. It's just that I think he overpaid for this particular pitcher. As for the Everett trade, I suppose we'll have to see. But as in the Yahoo quote at the beginning of this thread, most baseball people think KW got fleeced again. Very few GMs would trade 2 pitchers for an often injured hitter who can't play the field. As for the guy who suggested that Everett could take over in the outfield if the Sox lost Maggs: :headshake
  10. Holy cow, be careful!! The last time I started a thread like this, it ended up getting locked because there was so much name calling. I agree wholeheartedly, however. I think GMs love trading with KW because, as the quote states, he consistently overpays. He WAY overpaid for Garcia - unless the Sox get to the WS. With Garcia's relationship with Guillen, KW could have gotten Garcia in the offseason for nothing.
  11. um Kind of obvious isn't it? .044 better especially with the trends over the last 2 months.
  12. Well, it's actually 40 less at bats, but if you look at the trend over the last 4 months it's obvious who is better offensively - and it's overwhelming. Uribe: April-.393, May-.303, June-.222, July-.118 Miles: April-.268, May-.244, June-.361, July-.328 Overall: Uribe-.272 and falling like a rock, Miles-.316 and rising And the Coors Field thing is no help to Uribe in this comparison. He hit .253 there in 316 at bats last year.
  13. I don't know if you actually look at numbers before you make statements like the one above or you just shoot your mouth off to hear(see) yourself talk. If you compare Miles to Uribe defensively their numbers at second base are almost identical except...Miles's are better. Uribe: 461 innings, 5 errors, .982 FPCT Miles: 519 innings, 6 errors, .982 FPCT Their zone ratings, however, are .836 for Miles and .789 for Uribe, suggesting that Miles gets to more balls. I'll give you the fact that Uribe can play SS and 3B, but the overwhelming edge in offensive numbers gives the clear edge to Miles. So... I would much, much, much, much, MUCH rather have Miles.
  14. Can we give back Juan Uribe and get Aaron Miles back?
  15. Last time I looked, Crede has only HAD 2 previous second halfs, so it's not as though he's got some long track record of greatness after the all star break. Admittedly, in those 2 seasons he has hit .297 after the break but twice is not a track record. We'll see.
  16. Crede is hitting .152 for July - so, OK, I exagerated a little bit. As for killing if Davis hits .100, have you met qwerty? Maybe Ben will go on a little tear?
  17. Crede? Crede? Crede? What makes you think that Crede is coming around. This guy is nothing but a stiff with an enormous swing who will be lucky to bat 235 at years end. He looked like a complete goof on that foul pop this afternoon. Forget about Joe Crede providing any offense this year. Add Uribe, Borchard and Davis and my 14 year old son could get them all out.
  18. Forget Randy Johnson because the Sox have a bigger need on offense than pitching right now.
  19. I'm so sick of people saying not to panic. Nobody's panicking - it's baseball for Pete's sake. But let's face it - the Sox offense sucks and it's not just Oakland pitching causing it. There isn't any way to look at Crede, Uribe, Borchard, Davis, Burke and Maggs right now and see any hits. Maggs will come around eventually - probably a week or two - but the other guys are .100 hitters for the rest of the season.
  20. Crede, Uribe, Borchard and Davis can't be in the lineup at the same time, ever. Maggs, lets face it, sucks right now and probably will for another week or two. If Frank doesn't get hurt, he's in the minors right now. The Sox should absolutely forget about getting any more pitching help this season. They need offense - and Everett ain't enough.
  21. "Crede, Uribe, Borchard and Davis in the same lineup sink Sox" The Sox will post a .250 winning percentage as long as these 4 almost automatic outs continue to play. Anybody who thinks that Carl Everett is the answer is out to lunch. After watching Maggs the last few days it looks like a stint in the minors would have been a good idea. Carlos Beltran anybody? I'd trade all 4 of the guys in the headline above for him. Maybe we can get Aaron Miles back?
  22. Tough one to answer because I think Rooney is OK but Ed Farmer is the worst announcer in the history of radio. He sounds completely bored except when he is talking about something other than baseball - which is alot. I don't want to hear about Farmer's religious beliefs or who his friends are or who he scouted 15 years ago. How about getting excited about a basehit or double play?
  23. Anybody wish we had Aaron Miles back instead of Uribe? Think we could use a switch hitting leadoff man hitting in the 320 range with a 350 OBP? Another KW flop. As I've said in the past, and gotten clobbered for it, I don't trust him to make the right move here either.
  24. Just what the Sox need...a guy with a history of a bad attitude who has spent almost the entire season injured. I think, before I gave up anything, I'd want to see Everett play for a few weeks. He'd need to put up some very good numbers without injury, be willing to be a DH and be very, very cheap. Like free.
  25. With Frank out, Uribe and Harris in free fall to the .225 level, Magglio still iffy for a while and Borchard looking way overmatched the Sox don't need Randy Johnson right now. They need another stick, maybe 2. Preferably left handed. Forget about Randy Johnson.
