  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) Why is everyone so gung ho about acquiring Myers? Look at the guy's career, he is below average. Sure he can get lefties out, but you could throw an American Legion right handed batter out to face him, and he would get lit up. Well, that won't always happen. Say we're facing a guy like Travis Hafner. You think Wedge is gonna pull Hafner if we bring in Myers? Their are many other cases like that. And if an opponent puts in a right handed batter in when Myers enters, based on Ozzie's affinity for matchups, its likely he'll pull Myers right out of there. If he's only used as a lefty specialist, I'm all for picking up Myers, if only for situations like the Hafner example I just used.
  2. Didn't see this anywhere, but Bruce was just on Carmen and Silvy and said that a source of his is reporting that Damaso Marte is on the verge of being traded today. Didn't say to who, or what we'd be getting in return. Yah, I know its Bruce. Take it for what its worth.
  3. What a concept...smokers actually have to go outside to smoke! What is this world coming to.
  4. I notice they didn't include NHL teams this year. Good thing for the Blackhawks. It's the only thing keeping them from finishing last again.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) Steal? The marlins got three young players for cheap, the cubs got a light hitting defensive liabiity for ONE year. Yah, it was a good move for the Cubs, but I wouldn't really call it a steal. Baseball America had Nolasco at ranked #7 in a pretty deap Cubs farm system, and in '04 had Pinto ranked #6. To put it in perspective, the last BA rankings for the Sox (2004) had Gio at #7 and Haigwood wasn't ranked. And we know how much it hurt some around here to give those guys up. I won't pretend to know who the better prospects are, but Nolasco and Pinto don't appear to be slouches. Good move for the Cubs, and the Marlins get what they wanted as well.
  6. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 12:29 AM) This really isn't news. Expect Frank to the A's in the next few days. Thread already started in Trade Winds. Of course it isn't news. Just the first time its been acknowledged by KW and Ozzie. Move it or kill it if you like. No biggie.
  7. What we all expected was finally acknowledged by Kenny and Ozzie: Final hurt: Thomas' last day as Sox Some interesting comments by Frank. Hopefully he understands its business and doesn't hold it against the franchise. I expect him to be back in the organization in some capacity when his career is over. Best of luck to him. He will be missed.
  8. The line of thinking is that Uribe, who was among league leaders in sacrifices last year, will see better pitches batting in front of Konerko and Thome. This will also allow Iguchi to move down in the order and become more of a run producer. I'm skeptical, but what do I know? I'll assume Ozzie & Co. know what they're doing.
  9. Just another note on the bonus features: I know some around here were hoping for the the opening intro video with the Pirates of the Caribbean theme. Well, you get half of that. They changed the song based probably on, as suspected, copyright issues. Still pretty cool. The parade coverage was pretty sweet too!
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) Some of us can't see Insider things...you bastard! Oops, sorry. You're not missing much.
  11. If you guys want some humor, check out Steve Phillips' Top 50 free agents predictions on ESPN.com. Just further confirms that: A.) the prediction things are useless, B.) that Steve Phillips knows no more than you and I, and C.) that Steve Phillips may know less than you and I.
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) As well they should. The one DVD was all playoffs, this one is basically all regular season. I love it. Exactly. Like I said, put them both together and its a fabulous 2 and a half hours. Both DVD's are must-buys for all Sox fans (that is, unless you don't have a DVD player).
  13. If I remember correctly, Graffanino was pretty damn solid coming off the bench for us. I think he's going to find a place where he can start (which obviously isn't here), but if we did somehow land him, I'd have no problem with it.
  14. Got the video at the theater. Loved it! As was said earlier, they do breeze through the playoffs a little bit, but they put a lot more emphasis on the regular season. Together, this DVD and the World Series DVD make one hell of a package. Overall, the whole premier was awesome. Got to see the trophy, Jenks and Cotts, Minnie, Billy and Moose. They even served beer! A nice event to feed my fix and hold me over till SoxFest!
  15. Make that at least 2 GM's who aren't exactly thrilled about this: GMs uneasy over Classic I'm sure they're not alone.
  16. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) How is it anymore of a risk than ST games? IIRC, Buehrle was hurt last ST shagging balls. Never said it was any more of a risk than Spring Training. Find where I actually said so in my previous post and I will edit it. I was only saying that these guys are being paid a lot of money by their teams to not only perform, but to do what is best for the organization (hence the charity work, PR events, etc). And I doubt that performing in these games is in the best interest of these teams. In this case, if they get hurt playing in Spring Training, its while doing what they are paid to do. Thats not the case with this tournament. And I'm sure if you asked most GM's what they think about their players participating in this, my guess is that they prefer they didn't. For the record, I could really care less what these players do and what happens in this tourney. As I stated earlier, I'd rather watch the White Sox in Spring Training. I might tune in from time to time cause its baseball, but it all seems kind of irrelevent. Call me unpatriotic or whatever you want. It just doesn't seem interesting. But thats just one mans opinion and I'm sure many disagree. Alls I'm sayin is that as soon as an MLB player gets hurt during this thing, there is going to be some unhappy people.
  17. QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) i'd also be upset if someone got hurt in spring training. what's your point? If it happens in Spring Training, at least it happened on their watch. These guys are paid a s*** load of money by their organizations, and if one of them gets hurt performing an activity which they are not paid to do, the organization has the right to be pissed about it. Thats why you'll hear about clauses in contracts that give teams the ability to void contracts if they get hurt during extra-curricular activities (see Jay Williams and Kellen Winslow Jr.). Playing in these games is a definite risk for these players. And if one player who is an integral part of a major league roster gets hurt, expect a major backlash.
  18. QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) ^yeah that. What is better for us fans to watch? meaningless spring tranining games, or something like this? I'll take this in a heartbeat. I don't have a problem with these games. But I'd still rather watch Spring Training games. I'm sorry, but I'll have absolutely zero emotional attachment to any of these games. I'll be interested in watching our guys play, but thats about it. At least in Spring Training, we get to watch the team we know and love.
  19. Time will tell, but I have my money on Netherlands. That Andruw Jones really can do it all.
  20. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) Sorry to burst your bubble guys, I don't think Brian Anderson is a player....Hopefully they trade for Pierre. Thanks for filling us in. Thing about the Rowand love from the BBTN dopes is that these guys only see the highlights. And, of course, ARow did appear on an occasional web gem. For all they know, the guy was the second coming of Willie Mays. What they didn't see a whole lot of was the painfully inconsistant hitting, and the occasional bad read on a fly ball. Don't get me wrong, I loved the guy and thought he was a decent player. But if we go into the tank next year, I'll have a hard time believing that it'll be due to the absence of Aaron Rowand.
  21. 4 nominees and nothing. Apparently, it pays to be an east coast darling. 2005 SI Sportsman of the Year: Tom Brady Can't say I'm shocked.
  22. QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) He brought me up on stage, sat me in a chair, and sang to me personally. Pinnacle of my life. Its a shame you didn't dance with him ala Courtney Cox in Springstien's Dancing in the Dark video.
  23. I'm going with my brother and sister, but I'm not planning on dressing up...unless there is a dress code that I don't know about. Their website might fill you in: Arie Crown Theater
  24. The Indians want Garciaparra to play right field? Sound alot like a Jerry Manual move.
