  1. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) Absolutely not. But Thome is on the downside of his career and strikes out way too much for my taste. On top of that he is below-average defensively. If this was 3-4 years ago, maybe. Also, how does this affect payroll? I'd rather see them spend money to keep Konerko or wrap up Buehrle or Garland long-term. If those things don't happen because we spent money on Thome, that will suck. First of all, if all works to plan, he'll be playing mostly DH. Secondly, don't focus so hard on the K's. Turn your attention to his average walk totals and OBP's, two areas which were less than impressive last season.... Jim Thome - Career Stats
  2. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 06:42 PM) He will be in Home Run Heaven so his stats should go up. He can become your favorite NL player. Citizens Bank Park is no more of a "Home Run Heaven" than the cell. I wouldn't expect a real stat boost for ARow. Just sayin... That said, I will miss the guy. He played hard and seemed to be an overall great guy. Bottom line though, I believe he was the most replaceable position player that we had. He was a mediocre offensively, and while he was great defensively, I think he was slightly overrated. In the end, Phillie fans will like him for all the reasons we did. Best of luck in Philly, Aaron.
  3. Prospects are just that: Prospects. Gio and Haigwood might be good pitchers one day (key word here is "might"). Remember, Scott Ruffcorn, Danny Wright, Jim Parque, Matt Guerrier, and a whole bunch of other major league flops were once highly thought of prospects. I realize that there is the chance that you can be trading future stars here, but who the hell knows. Give me a proven commodity.
  4. Well, that'll give us a much needed two day break. Seriously though, how cool is that night going to be? Raising the flag and kicking the Indians ass on national TV! It'll be a hell of a party!
  5. I have a feeling that this is just the Phillies initial proposal, and proposals being thrown around are enough for Bruce to consider it "serious talks". And as always, the first trade offer is usually high. Of course, I'm just speculating (or doing what Bruce does without getting paid for it), but I'm guessing that the price tag for Thome will soon be coming down. Either way, if this is indeed what the Phillies are looking for in return, I suspect that Thome will be in Philadelphia next season.
  6. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) Your boy came through Soxtalk; I thanked Rally Crede for being Rally Crede: Addison: On the internet, Soxtalk.com, we called you the Rally Crede, you were our guy. Crede: Well, thanks. I'm honored. It's sunk in, Soxtalk. We are World Champions. What a night for you. Can't wait to see it on Comcast on Thursday! By the way, if Joe somehow decides to check out the site, lets hope he doesn't check out what was being said about him earlier in the year.
  7. QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) The only thing I don't like about this move is that a ring ceremony on Opening Day starts the season on last year's high note. It's going to suck if they lose the 1st game against the Indians and then get the rings the next day. I'd say raising that "2005 World Champions" banner won't bring them down from their "high". Its a one day wait. I don't know any of these guys personally, but I can assure you that what day the ring ceremony falls on will have absolutely no impact on their performance.
  8. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 01:46 PM) Sorry, I just had to use this!
  9. QUOTE(Wealz @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 12:09 AM) It's utterly stupid to hand out the rings any other day than Opening Day. I don't see any rule that says it has to be on Opening Day. Even without a ring ceremony, Opening Day in '06 is going to be something to remember. So why not make Game 2 a day to remember as well. I'm all for extending the party!
  10. QUOTE(Fenway @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) I shudder what Infinity has planned for the Red Sox in 2007 when they take over from WEEI They'd probably just throw a mic on Curt Schilling and let him babble on just about everything under the sun. Thats basically what he does now anyways.
  11. QUOTE(Fenway @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) friend works at A&E which puts the sets together. Cool! Well, hopefully the other two DVD's will hold me over till then.
  12. QUOTE(Fenway @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) My understanding is the set coming out in March will have the complete games of all 3 series. Boston didn't include the Anaheim series last year because the ALCS went 7 and there was little drama in the ALDS. Where'd you here this? It would make sense though. We only played 12 playoff games. The ALCS and World Series games for the Red Sox amounted to 11. All they'd have to do is add 1 more game to the package to include all 3 series. Anyways, if this is true, this thing will be in my hands the day it comes out.
  13. Here's some great news! I've seen a few posts around the site regarding the hopes that we get a highlight package like the Red Sox recieved, with complete games, special features, etc... The Boston Red Sox 2004 World Series Collector's Edition ...Well, from the sounds of it, it looks like we'll be getting ours: Trib: Plenty to like on Series DVD That's all they said about it, but I sure was hoping they'd do something like this for us.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) Really.. I don't think it had much to do with them at all. From what I have heard Comcast will pick up as many games as they did last year. Guess I heard wrong. If thats the case, thats awesome. Maybe we'll get to witness another Pablo Ozuna Mash Fest!
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) The White Sox will play a pair of exhibition games at Atlanta's Turner Field on Friday, March 31 (7:05 p.m. ET) and Saturday, April 1 (1:05 p.m. ET). I guess this is ok. Liked it better when they played in Milwaukee this year (cause I could actually go). Oh well. On a side Spring Training note, it sure would be sweet if Comcast picked up another 20 or so ST games like they did this year. But I doubt it. If I remember correctly, that had a lot to do with the absense of the Blackhawks. Anyways, just sayin.
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) Could have saved a lot of time just naming "The Sox" as one nomination. Yup! Then again, we're not the Red Sox. 2004 Sportsmen of the Year: Red Sox and their fans :banghead
  17. QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 05:37 PM) eh, he's the biggest long shot...i like my sportsman's to have played. Actually, I'd say he has the best shot out of all of them. The guy is the face of the franchise, and from an outsiders perspective, when it comes to the White Sox, Ozzie is the story. Personally, I think they're all deserving.
  18. Take it for what its worth, but Tim Kurkjian said this morning on Mike & Mike that he's convinced that Pauly will be back with the Sox. Said he wants to stay, and while the offer he gets from us may not be the biggest, it will probably be big enough. Sounds like pure speculation, but in my opinion, I agree and think this is how it'll play out.
  19. 3 years / $11 million per Trib Eyre Cubs' man in middle Not as atrocious as the supposed 2 year deal, I still think its way overpaying for a guy who's had 1 good year.
  20. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) Hermanson will earn $3 million in 2006. Yup, you're right. My bad.
  21. To put it in perspective... 2006 White Sox Salaries: Dustin Hermanson: $2M Cliff Politte: $1.2M Neal Cotts: $330,000 Bobby Jenks: Not available, but likely under $1M Pretty sure their combined 2006 salaries will barely crack $4 million. And if Eyre's contract is what they are saying it is, he might make more than our big 4 combined next year. Ouch!
  22. Well, I can see how they got him so quickly and easily. I couldn't imagine anybody else outbidding that deal. It's funny...he'd probably be, at best, the 4th best guy in the Sox bullpen.
  23. Thats a lot of money for an average pitcher.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 12:25 AM) How in the f*** do you not have Gordon in the game? Skiles really does hate Ben with a passion. The lesson is simple. You don't play both sides of the floor, you don't play at all, and Gordon is absolutely etrocious defensively. Supposedly, he worked on his D during the offseason. Yet to see a difference.
  25. Nothing is really said, but here's an article for confirmation: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/padre...-padstrade.html
