Who are the Cubs?

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) he's not going to make Vlad money -- he's not an MVP candidate. He doesn't hit over .300. Thing is though, he's been the best player on the biggest stage. Carlos Betran's stats last year during the regular season were very good, but nothing special (batted .267 with 38 homers and 104 RBI's). Now, I realize that Pauly and Beltran are two completely different players, and Beltran is a 5-tool player that many teams would kill to have, but I'm willing to bet that the monster contract he recieved from the Mets would have been a lot smaller if it weren't for the unreal postseason that he had. Either way, the one thing we know for sure is that Pauly is going to get a pretty fat contract when the season is over, and I'm pretty sure he would have been alot cheaper had it not been for his amazing run the past few weeks. And when all is said and done, its going to be hard not to give him that fat contract after what he's accomplished.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) But that picture is from the "Seperate Ways" video... Good catch. Still, the opportunity was there to use it, so I took it.

When I first heard that they were using that song, I thought to myself, "thats a really dopey song...they better have a good drinking story behind it". After hearing Rowand's explanation, I'm totally down with it. Cool story. Now, if they can all do some synchronized fist-pumping in the dougout when they play the song, I'll be the happiest guy in the world.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 09:14 AM) Thats why I always de-bunk any ridiculous comment before it can be proved wrong... Thanks Way to play it safe.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) Either way its still the juice bar...two corporately named ballparks facing off in the world series. Is this the first time that has ever happened? And this is completely off the top of my head too...so don't yell at me if I'm blatantly wrong. 2002 World Series: Giants (Pac Bell Park) vs. Angels (Edison Field). The names of both ballparks have changed.

I know this is really simplifying things, but if we can manage to score at least 4 runs a game, we're in good shape. Their lineup is really unimpressive. And being that our offense appears to be on a roll right now, I like our chances.

There were things about both teams that scared me. Decided that it wouldn't matter. If we play like we have if the first two rounds, we'll be ok.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 10:45 PM) Anybody know of any good Astros message boards? This is the only decent one I could find. http://p078.ezboard.com/fevilwontwinfrm3

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 10:31 PM) What do you mean? I think they've been pretty classy so far. Did I miss something? They weren't being jerks or anything. They were just chanting "Lets go Cardinals" while the Astros were celebrating. It was actually kinda funny.

Guillen named AL Manager of the Year
KevHead0881 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) Just about every team's hometown fans dislike the manager or tend to be extremely over critical of him. It stems from watching every damn game of the season and having the oportunity to 2nd or 1st guess every move a manager makes during a game. Did you know a lot of Braves fans are upset with Bobby Cox for only winning 1 world series over the 14 seasons they've been in the playoffs? It's true. The managers that we see as being great and would love to have them managing our team are heavily scrutinized and in a lot of cases disliked by that team's fans. Could not agree more. Hell, people easily forget that Tony LaRussa, who is regarded as one of the better managers of our time, was booed every time he stepped out of the dougout near the end of his tenure here. I even know a decent amount of Cardinal fans who cant stand him. It all comes with the territory of being a fan. You can second-guess just about every move a manager can make. Ozzie has made moves this year that left me scratching my head. But in my opinion, the true measure of a good manager is if he can get the most out of the talent that has been given to him. And, for at least this year, I believe that Ozzie has done that and then some. Congrats Ozzie! -

Who should throw out the first Pitch for game 1?
KevHead0881 replied to rangercal's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I like the idea of Billy Pierce throwing out the first pitch. Being that for reasons past understanding he didn't get to start in the '59 World Series, I think it would be fitting tribute. -
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) I would love to see Uribe move to 3B, trade Crede and sign Nomah to play SS. Nomah does not have to move, can be had relatively at a lower $$$ and will be a good contact hitter to add to this lineup Not sure I'd want to bring in someone as injury-prone as Nomar, but even if we did, I wouldn't move Uribe to 3rd for him. Defensively, Uribe is far and away better than Nomar. Its really not even debatable. Honestly, I don't even want to think about the offseason. Hats off to KW for giving us a championship caliber team this year. If we somehow win the whole damn thing, I'll forever be grateful to Ozzie, KW and the whole bunch. Keeping my fingers crossed....

You can all rest easy. On ESPN.com, Gammons picks the Angels to win 4 games to 2.

Who's the douchebag who couldn't remember Rowand's name?

Hey ARod, the Boss is on the phone. He wants his money back.
