  1. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) As long as we're on this topic... I love Hawk as much as the next guy, but his incessant slobbering over everything White Sox is becoming overkill. I mean, Jesus Christ, you'd think it's impossible for any major league team to win the World Series without Joey Cora coaching 3rd base. /rant. I guess this is what happens after you win a WS. He adds a lot to the broadcast and has a very good personality. I dont' think Blackjack would do full time broadcasting, but if he did and when we eventually replaced Hawk, I'd try to bring BJ in for a set number of games during hawks final season and put him with DJ and hawk in a 3 man booth to allow him to gel and than eventually turn things to DJ and Black Jack.
  2. QUOTE(Lefty Of Love @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) I thought one of the best broadcast teams was when they brought Robin Ventura up to the booth and it was him DJ and Hawk. Having a 3rd person really deflated any perceived tension between Hawk and DJ. I dont know how common it is in baseball to have a 3-man squad and Robin said he didnt want to be a broadcaster, but that handful of games they all worked together was good stuff. I'm a fan of 3 man booths. I love the Yanks booth.
  3. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) You all are making a mountain out a molehill. I could really give less than a damn if Gage was broadcasting a game if we're doing well... I'll take that as a compliment. I may be bad, but I don't think I'd RUIN the broadcast.
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) I thought their banter was better when I heard them on some WGN games. I remember like 2 years ago when they sounded ready to fight over a shady homerun call. I don't know if I could listen without DJ in the booth. He's really gotten better. I've long said if I were in a front office position I'd bring DJ in to interview for the managerial position or at least make a recommendation for him as a coach on the managers staff. I'm a HUGE DJ fan. He's one of my favorite TV guys in all of baseball. Behind Vin Scully (Just the Man), Michael Kay, Whimpy and a few others that aren't on my mind right now. I'm not a fan of the NESN booth though.
  5. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 07:36 AM) Hawk = Big Ego Wimpy = Laid back, loose/easy attitude + became more popular and Hawk did not like it Add in some general tension and poof, Hawk, the bigger star and kiss ass, won and remained in the booth and Wimpy went bye-bye. Personally, I still like Hawk on the broadcasts, but I loved him and Wimpy together. I feel HAwk and DJ have never developed any good chemistry. I think Whimpy is doing all the games for the Nationals this year. The three Nats games I watched this season had him in the booth. I nkow for a while he was only doing a limited amount of games. Its good hearing him back full time.
  6. Its really nice to see Charlotte doing well for once. Razor is one of those guys that takes no guff and gets the most out of his players. They seem to play fundementally out of him and he wins. I'd think someone would take a long hard look at him over the next couple years when it comes to offering him a major league job.
  7. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) I worked for the Kane County Cougars when he was there, he dominated Single-A ball. I guess other organizations were scouting him, in fact I saw Jerry Krause there one day, and I'm guessing he was scouting for the Yankees. I believe later that summer Sierra was traded from the Cougars to the Yankees for Chris Hammond if I'm not mistaken. Sierra has good stuff, and I'd love to see him make it big for the South Siders. CWSOX45 There is an article on the FutureSox board about this, but he was part of the Chacon deal. Here's a link to a story giving some details on what he throws and all that stuff. http://www.futuresox.com/frontpage/modules...order=0&thold=0
  8. .240 to .260 with about 18 hr's and 18 steals.
  9. It should be noted that Sierra has pitched a few games in spring training the past couple years.
  10. Sox Claim Eduardo Sierra By Jason Gage FutureSox.com The Chicago White Sox claimed RHP Eduardo Sierra off waivers from the Colorado Rockies. Sierra pitched in 6 games for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (AAA) going 0-0 with a 5.14 ERA in 6 games. In 7 innings of work, he gave up 7 hits and 6 walks, while striking out 7. Sierra was sent to Birmingham (AA) and was added to the Sox 40 man roster, which now stands at 35. Sierra was initially signed by the Oakland Athletics in 1999 as an un-drafted free agent. After spending 6 years in the A’s organization, he moved on to the Yankee’s where he spent the entire 2004 season as the closer for the Yanks High A affiliate (Tampa). Sierra remained in the Yanks organization until the middle of 2005, when he was traded to the Colorado Rockies as part of the Shawn Chacon deal. At the time of the trade, Sierra had made a lot of progress and had developed into one of the Yanks better relief prospects (3-1, 3.28 ERA in 33 games for AA Trenton). Sierra’s fastball was rated among the best in the Yanks farm system and the Rockies recent strategy had been to target fastball pitchers due to the altitude hurting breaking ball pitchers. Sierra’s right arm attracted the Sox as well. The 24 year old righty has averaged 8.06 strikeouts per game during his 6 year minor league career. However, Sierra has struggled with his command throughout the minors, averaging almost 5 walks per game (4.92). His walk numbers have actually regressed over the course of his minor league career which is a definite cause of concern and one of the reasons the Sox were able to claim Sierra. The White Sox staff will now see if they can harness Sierra’s heater, which has been clocked as high as 98 MPH. While Sierra can rare back and reach 98, he consistently throws in the 94-95 MPH range and compliments his fastball with a plus splitter and a solid slider. FS Take: Stuff has never been a problem for Sierra and if the organization can improve his control, they may have found a future set up man at the major league level.
  11. Emailed around...this guy has a million dollar arm and no control. Working on a writeup right now.
  12. Good stuff Mike. I was pleasantly surprised by McCarthy's quick adjustment to the pen. The big thing I hope is that he'll be able to still throw the ocassional 3 or 4 inning relief stint that will keep his stamina up.
  13. Favre is still a very good player and I'm glad he's back. He may be on the Packers but I love watching Favre play.
  14. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) I'm thinking there's a web links portion on the front page that we could open up if its ok with Gage. Sounds fantastic to me. Whatever we can do to help the members out.
  15. Hot or Not: Week 3 of the 06 Season By Tyler James Soxtalk.com Sox are blazing hot right now and are currently on eight-game winning streak. Who would have thought such a tremendous week would make my job that much tougher. So many candidates were worthy of making the hot list. Better yet, the Sox had no one truly struggle the past week, so instead I will be giving a few players the “splinter” category for riding the pine...CLICK HERE FOR MORE
  16. Just like Wakefield is often responsible for a lot of his unearned runs. However, you got to like the way Haeger has pitched thus far this season.
  17. Dye pops out. Inning over.
  18. Crede just roped it to right field but Ichiro makes the play. About 5 feet from a HR (if that).
  19. I love games on the west coast. Its actually a nice time for a ball game for me (instead of having to DVR it and than catch up as the game goes on).
  20. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 08:56 PM) With the exception of one badly located pitch, nice inning there by Cottsy And that pitch was more just a bad pitch to throw. We sped up his bat and then threw an offspeed pitch in on Lopez. If we were going to throw an offspeed pitch throw it off th plate. If you throw it in with his bat sped up (from the fastballs he was way late on) you are asking for trouble.
  21. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 08:55 PM) I disagree. Cotts is doing good *knocks on wood* I can't say for sure whether he would, but on that specific ball there aren't many Cf's that would have gotten in. Seattle's feed had a great camera shot on Anderson on the play and he had a terrific jump and mixed with his top end speed he got to that ball. I don't think there are but a handful of outfielders that make that play (especially as easy as Anderson made that look).
  22. Poor pitch to throw in that count, but Anderson had a great jump and made a nice play.
  23. Paulie with a single past Beltre. Ripped it.
  24. Fly ball to CF, caught at the warning track by Reed.
  25. 96 MPH by Guchi for the K. The pitch was in a hittable region but Guchi was behind it.
