I sure as hell hope they weren't. I'd assume Butch Davis is the next person they focus their attention on. But ND needs to move quickly and needs to spend money otherwise they are risking a big butcher and this is coming from a person who was for the Whillingham ouster.

Beck I got to say I was interested in your idea of getting Baez cause I think he would be a good pickup. The only thing is I think the Sox like Willie and I can't see them giving up on him. They seem to like the idea of giving Uribe the backup job to fill in for both Crede and Willie and if one of them fails then he'll get all his at bats at that position. I got to admit, I'm starting to really like the idea of Edgar, even though I think 8 mill a year is too much for him. Its more that he can fill a need for the Sox and make them a lot better. The Sox can afford to sign him and Wright without making any moves. After those moves they still have voids behind the plate, in RF, and in the pen. You could technically deal Konerko, pick up a FA bat in RF and get a good reliever and more for him. The big question is what team would be interested in Konerko that has a reliever worth it, cause I do have a problem giving up Konerko for nothing in a sense. I don't know if the Sox will fill all the voids, but I know one thing, if they want to win they need to pickup a right fielder and add at least one more good reliever (on top of signing a guy like Wright and Edgar). And I mean a good reliever, not a project type guy. They can then live with Davis/Burke behind the plate and if they deal Konerko they can live with Gload, imo. Or you could always pick up a Tino Martinez type guy for cheap. On a sidenote, here is something the Sox should consider since I think production wise you have to look at Nomar as easily as good of Edgar. Edgar is better defensively though and is safe in the sense of health status. But since the Sox are in the PR mode as well (and I know I spoke heavily against this type of moves) you have to think the impact (PR wise) of a Nomar signing would be pretty big and I'd think the Sox would consider that. Me, I think Nomar at 7 mill is worth it and his pr ability is just better (even though he doesn't like getting interviews, etc, Nomar is a big name). Plus the Sox don't tie themselves up long term. Either way I'd be very excited with either move. -
I'm still hoping ND steps up and gets him. I think Meyer would prefer ND. I imagine his wife would rather live in Florida though. And I'm not much of a fan of Zook going to ND. I'd rather have Tyrone.

Jesus...Arizona also has offered Troy Glaus a deal and could pursue Clement as well. They must be dealing RJ, but if they are planning on spending this type of money why in the hell would you trade the best pitcher in baseball????
-
Well for those not wanting Ortiz it looks like the Dbacks may get him: "Arizona stands a strong chance of landing free-agent pitcher Russ Ortiz to help anchor a new-look starting rotation, and the roster will likely include a new name for the infield as well, as first baseman Richie Sexson has rejected the Diamondbacks' latest contract offer."

God I hope he accepts it. They met tonight in Utah and according to the tribune an offer was made. This would be such a fantastic hire. Please accept it, please accept it. ND would get their guy and Meyer would get his choice. Seems like a great fit http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines

This is where I will stray from my typical opinion on the radar gun, but I wnat the Sox to bring in a power pitcher. A guy they can call out of the pen that can strike out guys with runners in scoring position. I just don't think that of any of the Sox minor league relievers at this point. I like Baj the best of them simply because he seems to have some nice downward plane. However, Majewski was the one guy I liked quite a bit as a reliever in this organization next to Baj. Fields could be good, but still a bit away and I don't think much of Munoz from what I've seen of him. I could be way wrong though. I've seen him snap a few sick curves but he seems to be going away with it and throwing his slider more for some reason. I heard hints that the org wants him to work more on that, but don't know how legit it is. I have no problem with one or two of them in the back of the pen. I have a problem with Politte being the 3rd best reliever on this club. That scares me. As a 4th reliever fine. I do like Cotts quite a bit though. -
Consider the Rangers available. I just wont' have the time to do it.

Personally I never have cared for the he played with hte Cubs or he played with the twins argument. He isn't going to be on the Sox and play and root for another team. Sure he may follow his buddies, but I could give a hoot about that. I long have said I wish the Sox were more like the Twins in the comrodory regard. I remember how much fun the 2000 Sox had, since then it seems few and far between. Although last year was better. I know one thing Pyrz is a pretty solid catcher and the Giants would probably move him cheap. The Sox could probably get him without giving up Konerko or Lee, I just think financially those guys would have to go. -

I should add, I'm glad Ozzie said he wants another reliever cause this team drastically needs one. Also very nice to know that he realizes the Sox should get a ground ball pitcher. Intrigued that they may push the fences back out. If they do that then I'd think they would make a heavy push for pitching. Gotta play to your teams advantages. -

If the Yanks paid like 16 mill of his contract I'd definately make that swap. Without money involved though I think its took risky. I'd do a Konerko and Contreras for Vazquez swap though (but we know I don't like Contreras, lol). -

He made just 11 errors this past season which is pretty impressive. But I wouldn't pay 9 mill for a .327 OBP and a .728 OPS. The .284 average is adequate but its just not that amazing. In my opinion Nomar (1 or 2 yr 7 mill per) >>>>> Renteria (4yr 36) I would assume this move would mean the Sox move Konerko or Lee. After that I'd like to see them get a left handed bat and a reliever for one of them and then sign a RF as well. I think that would really complete this team. Hell, what about the Sox sign Wright, sign Renteria or Nomar. Then deal Konerko to the Giants for Pyrzinski and a bullpen arm (one of their younger pitchers - Foppert, Williams, etc...maybe the Giants consider it). Sox now have filled catcher and shortstop, got a young pitcher, and have a little money left over to add a guy like Jermaine Dye or whomever. Then swap the young pitcher you got from the Giants for a reliever or something along those lines. Aaron Rowand Renteria/Nomar Carlos Lee Frank Thomas AJ Pyrzinski Jermaine Dye Ross Gload Joe Crede Juan Uribe/Willie Harris Rotation: Garcia Buehrle Wright Garland Contreras -

If Edgar produces like he did two years ago or somewhere near his 3 year splits I wouldn't have much complaint. Hits for average, plays plus defense, and has decent speed. However this year he wasn't all that grand, at least not 9 mill grand. Two years ago, .330/.394 with 100 RBI is pretty freaking good. I still say it could be a little smarter to look at Nomar. I wonder if the Sox are actually looking at him cause you could get him shorter term. -
Man Cheat, I'd be so excited to get Davannon. He's the one high walk guy the Angels have and would be a great fit considering he can play any outfield position. I bet the Angels would think about a Cotts/Davannon swap. Sox maybe giving up a little something else.

I think Anaheim will sit slow and let the other teams get in and make offers and then try and snatch him cause I think thast where he wants to play. I also think Anaheim will sign Carl Pavano.

Wow I leave for like an hour, come back right in time for the good caller, lol. Seems interesting. Was that what the Sox are going to offer Renteria? As much as I think thats a lot of money for Edgar, he is good defensively and can fit into the 2 hole and be very productive. Him, Wright and a reliever would be quite nice. If payroll is at 75 mill they could make two of the moves and find a way to shift some payroll to add a reliever. -

I'm listening right now. They are yapping about Detroit and they said they are opening up the phone lines. Also heard something about them projecting Garland to win 15. Damn it start talking, got to play basketball shortly. -
Just want to say that Brooks Boyer is a class individual. Anyway the White Sox have always supported this site, SoxNet and especially FutureSox by helping out. While I know some people disagree with different things management does, I've heard of many other fan sites getting treated poorly by teams and the White Sox just don't do that. Brooks

Joe Borchard for Kenny with the Yanks picking up the tab would work for me and I bet the Yanks would consider it. They could move Borchard elsewhere in a package. Borchard isn't going to make it with the Sox, but another team will be at least intrigued with him, imo.
-
Sadly its going to take a death or a major fan backlash before it becomes any stricter, imo. The owners themselves don't have the power to beat the MLBPA in this regards.

No, for one significant reason. He didn't put up the numbers Crede did in the minors and hasn't shown the potential Crede has shown at the major league level. Borchard was overhyped, case closed. Ive long told everyone Rowand had a better arm (even though BOrch was supposed to have a studly arm). One thing you can't deny is Borchards amazing power. But its useless when you can't hit for average or use your power consistently. His power numbers the past couple years were horrific considering his power capabilities and the fact he's playing in an insane hitters park (Charlotte). Crede put up monster numbers in the minors and has had great stretches in the majors. The day I see Borchard have a monster season (he hasn't had one since his days back with the Barons and I'll admit those were numbers to be impressed by).
