  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 14, 2014 -> 07:46 AM) He will have no problem finding a job. You are right, he'll get a backup job somewhere.
  2. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 14, 2014 -> 07:41 AM) No, people with Beckham hate realize he's a bust and want someone else there, it has nothing to do with Semien. Ding Ding Ding. And Semien has shown a lot in the minors and has shown some positive things at the majors (and hasn't proven himself to be what he is, like Becks has) to the point that I don't want Beckham taking at bats away from Marcus and his development. If the Sox think Marcus can/should go down to AAA to work on some things he's learned based upon getting his feet a little wet right now, then I am okay with that. I don't think they would have pegged him to be in the majors at this point yet and he likely would have spent the first half of this year in AAA but injury called and Semien came up.
  3. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:43 AM) If they draft a high school player there's little difference in terms of need between a hitter and pitcher seeing how you're looking at 2017-8. Marty, I don't know how many times someone has to say this, there is no such thing as drafting based upon need in the early rounds of the baseball draft, that is just idiocracy. You draft whomever is the best possible prospect and who you think is the right fit. It is such a crapshoot that limiting yourself to a 2nd basemen because your system is thin is just asinine. Maybe if two guys rate the same you will do that but that is pretty rare.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) How many other coaches would have let this bunch to anything but the lottery? Thibs is a top coach in the NBA, no doubt about it. There is zero doubt that he is not one of the top 5 coaches in the game and I'd probably say he's top 3, if not top 2.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:25 AM) If the Bulls come to the conclusion that Thibodeau will never win a title because he beats his players into the ground or Thibs decides to go somewhere else and they can hire Fred Hoiberg, I'd be ok with it. I love Thibodeau but in the NBA players matter so much more. Hoiberg is on my short list if the Bulls are stupid enough to get rid of Thibbs.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 14, 2014 -> 03:31 AM) I think the Spurs are happy with their coach. Pop has long been rumored to be retiring any year now and the long thoughts are that he will retire when Duncan retires. If the Spurs win this year, I wouldn't be surprised if both walked away.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 13, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) You are still giving up a 2nd round pick at the very, very, very minimum, and likely the 1st, because you have to move up to #5 or #6 to get Evans. The Bucs weren't moving because Evans was the guy they wanted. Yes it's a high cost, but again, wideout was the absolute biggest need on the team. If everything blows up and a new regime is brought in with the new ownership, they have plenty of talent to recoup the cost of that pick. It's a win now move for a team that has talent to win now. People are just upset with it because the Bills went 6-10 last year instead of 8-8 or 10-6 which, as I pointed out, they could have easily done last year. I wouldn't have done it for Evans either. I don't trade up for a wideout. If I'm trading up I'm doing it for a potential franchise QB. Probably not another position I'd do it for, not at the cost of the future first. There are some exceptions, for example, you just have a major need and that is going to put you over the top. Watkins does not put the Bills over the top. It absolutely doesn't and that is why it is incredibly stupid to mortgage another draft pick for a wideout like Watkins.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 13, 2014 -> 09:34 AM) The Bills had the 9th pick! I don't give up two picks, especially when you aren't a good team. You can talk about all the close games but that is the NFL these days. I don't think the Bills are a bad team and they did a lot despite having their QB done for the entire year but Watkins is not going to be one of the 3 or 4 best wideouts in the game. You are losing valuable depth, not to mention potential star power. The value of that potential first round pick is pretty darn high given the Bills recent history.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ May 13, 2014 -> 08:41 AM) Few of these are true #1s. Most of those are product of good passing system which arguable if Bills have. Of best WRs regardless in football, I can't think of one that isn't a #1 pick: Megatron AJ Green Andre Johnson Larry Fitz Julio Jones Bmarshall is not a #1?
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ May 13, 2014 -> 08:41 AM) Few of these are true #1s. Most of those are product of good passing system which arguable if Bills have. 11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2014 -> 07:54 AM) 2 first round picks for an Eric Moulds would disappoint a bit. Dez Bryant that's becoming fair, but Dez also has taken a while to develop, so that's a potential major issue if this guy doesn't come out and light the world on fire this year. If he becomes Dez Bryant and like Dez it takes until his 3rd year for him to become a really top flight WR, that's a decent pick but man, two first rounders for that player is still steep. Moulds didn't get to 90 catches until his 5th season, Bryant his 3rd, Owens his 5th. They contributed beforehand but it took most of the guuys you listed several seasons to become really top flight WR's. AJ Green was the only one you listed who lit the league on fire as a rookie, which is what the Bills appear to be counting on in the justifications you're giving. Dez also wasn't a top 5 pick, nor were some of the other guys listed. Watkins is not in the same mold as a Megatron. I'd rather take my chances on a Mike Evans and have next years first.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 13, 2014 -> 06:46 AM) What other elite ones? Sammy is/was in a class of his own. I think Sammy's the best receiver to come out since AJ Green, but most others think that too. You won't see people making those comparisons for Beckham or Evans or anyone else in the draft, and if you take one later - several of whom I did like a lot - you better be damn sure those guys are #1 receivers, otherwise you're just adding depth. This is a move made for now and later. Or Dez Bryant or AJ Green or Eric Moulds or Terrell Owens. Anywhere in that range, or in between, or better, or slightly worse. He just can't bust. You gave up another first round pick. That is a bad idea for a wideout, especially since most rookie wideouts don't make significant impacts. This reaks of being a bad move that the Bills will regret. They need him to be an absolute stud for it not to be a bad deal, imo.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ May 12, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) I'm gonna side with wite sort of. Always tough to lose a 1st rounder, and receivers are never sure things. However, if Watkins is as dynamic as some think, nobody will ever claim to hold the opinion "but they had Stevie Johnson and had to trade up!". Those players are game changers and if they think he is one you do what you do to get em. In general, trading up is a bad idea, trading up for a wideout, especially one who I personally dont' think projects near as good as some of the other elite ones, that just doesn't make sense, imo.
  14. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 12, 2014 -> 09:10 AM) Only time will tell, but I don't think they are one player away from being a great team. They won 6 games last year in an awful division. I would be surprised if they even won 8 games next year. I feel the exact opposite of Wite.
  15. I swear if Kolek is on the board and we pass for a next tier college arm, I will flip out. I dont' know what happens to Kolek but he is an extremely rare talent and we would be lucky to have a shot at drafting him (or really any of the top 3 guys to be frank).
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 10, 2014 -> 08:21 PM) Obvious Mizzou bias here, but yes. He's undersized but has some real damn broad shoulders and a Joakim Noah motor. He was a projected 2nd/3rd rounder when the season ended, plummeted when he came out. I mean, unanimous All-American and SEC Defensive Player of the Year mean nothing to the NFL...but he played really f***ing good last year. I forgot Kroenke owns the Rams. He lives in Columbia and has Mizzou ties, so it makes sense that they'd take the chance. By plummeted when he came out, you mean, plumetted after the combine and pro day as that is really what dropped his stock or at least by and large.
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ May 10, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) Thought it was funny that one scouting report knocked him for average athleticism after I saw those combine numbers. That's about as good as it gets for a punter. Not a high bar to clear to improve our punting game. I'm not going to pretend to know whether he'll be any good. Me either. I just know we needed a punter. I like the fact that this whole draft has been addressing areas of need. Loved the Vereen move.
  18. Fantastic pick. I am much more happy now as I like how much we have improved the defensive side of the ball and how much we have improved our lines on both sides of the ball over the past two years.
  19. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 9, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) I don't like him because throwing hard is the ONLY thing I ever hear about him. I hear about Rodon's sick arsenal of plus pitches, I hear about Aiken's great control and being a lefty, and then I just hear that Kolek throws hard. I think Kolek has a pretty good curve as well.
  20. QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 9, 2014 -> 05:42 PM) God damn it. He did it again... Ferguson wasn't even the best DT on his team. Anthony Johnson was better. I watch a ton of SEC football and he never stood out to me at all. This is exactly what I said about Bostic last year, and so far, I've been proven right. God, I hope I'm so wrong. But this is another questionable pick. Fuller is actually one of the few which was a solid value where he was taken (along w/Jeffrey). This looks like Emery getting cute. We should have moved down, imo.
  21. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 9, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) Bears 2nd round pick #51............Ego Ferguson DT This is a reach 4th round grade. NFL.com had him as a 2nd to 3rd round grade.
  22. W/Nix on the board and Brooks I don't know that I like that pick but It is clearly a need pick and he has upside.
  23. I hate the Ravens. They had a draft I'd have been really happy with.
  24. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 9, 2014 -> 03:18 PM) I'm not huge on Kolek but if we pass on Rodon/Aiken things will be thrown. I got to ask, why do people not like Kolek? Cause he throws too hard? Seriously? Dude has a big frame, protypical work-horse. Could he get hurt, sure, but so could anyone else.
