  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) Crede + Masset = ??? or Crede + Danks = #3 starter Inquiring minds want to know . . . I'd be really surprised if they give up on Danks. Now Crede + Masset = #3 or #4 starter, now we're talking. But it ain't gonna happen, most likely.
  2. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) I'm not sure exactly the cause of this, but, if you look at the two tracking polls for the Dem nomination, you see some interesting trends. The Rasmussen 3-day tracking poll, had Obama with a very small lead, going into the 3/4 OH-TX-RI-VT primaries. His lead was in the 1 to 3 point range. Then after the results of 3/4, Clinton jumped ahead - by as much as 6 points (3 days after, in a 3 day poll). Since then however, not only has Clinton's lead vanished, but it appears that Obama is picking up an even larger lead then he had prior to 3/4. He now has an 8 point lead, according to them - which is as large as any lead he's had the entire race. Gallup's poll doesn't show as much of an Obama lead - just 2 points - but the same trend. Obama picking up steam shortly after the 3/4 results soaked in. Is this because of Ferraro? Or Mississippi? Or Clinton's tactics? Or has Obama's slight change in demeanor had an effect? No idea. But its interesting to see. What do you mean by this?
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 11:14 AM) $111 Also, Gold = $1000/oz. No inflation here! Japan (economic model of the late 1980's), here we come.
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) Too bad the REPs don't have a candidate that can win How embarrassing to lose to a convicted felon? This paper is all over the party - and I know you noted it, but I wanted to NOTE it.
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) Delta voters re-elect felon Bazan by wide margin Jeremy Roebuck March 4, 2008 - 11:41PM ELSA — Walo Bazan has done it again. For the second time this decade, Hidalgo County’s Precinct 5 constable has won the Democratic primary under a cloud of legal problems and accusations of criminal wrongdoing. Now, with no Republican challenger, the five-term incumbent is slated to become the only elected peace officer in the state to take office with a felony record, no license and a legal restriction barring him from carrying a weapon. As election returns came in Tuesday night, challengers Mario Leal and Juan Diaz Alemán gracefully conceded. “If that’s what the people want, then that’s fine,” Leal said. “I’m not disappointed.” But for Bazan, who has retained much of his support in the Delta despite his conviction on theft charges in 2006, Tuesday’s results hardly came as a surprise. He won re-election in 2004 by more than 1,000 votes over his closest competitor — even while Bazan was under criminal indictment. Now convicted of those charges, his popularity among voters has only grown. His policies of patrolling the streets around area schools and providing free escort services for funerals have endeared him to his Delta constituents. And on Tuesday, voters swept him back into office with almost 2,000 votes over Leal and more than 63 percent of the total vote — in a race in which nearly 5,900 votes were cast. A state licensing board revoked Bazan’s peace officer’s license in 2006 after a jury found him guilty of getting personal use of a car his deputies seized. The constable is currently appealing that conviction and has maintained his office despite Hidalgo County District Attorney Rene Guerra’s attempts to remove him. The Texas attorney general bolstered Bazan’s claim to elected office last year in a legal opinion that suggested constables do not necessarily need a law enforcement license to hold their office. But Bazan’s re-election Tuesday may not mean he will serve a full sixth term. The constable previously said he will consider stepping down should the state’s courts deny his appeals. Bazan could not be reached for comment after his victory was declared.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) I agree. Life is much easier with light in the evening versus 6 am. That's because you don't drive a John Deere to work. Snob.

    School Reunions

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) I didn't like most of those people when I was in high school, I don't really have much interest in most of them now! Same with college, ya bastard.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) From the sounds of it... Hillary Clinton and her advisors, well at least until they were against it. The quickest way to disenfranchise people would be for the Superdelegates to not follow the will of the majority at the convention. The Texas caucus and primary system has been around for a long while. If you want a history lesson, I can give it to you.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) being a huge Beatles fan, it was hard to listen to that crap last night. It really tells me that The Beatles songs weren't about how pretty they were sung. The prefomance, the song writing, and the meanings behind them were so much more important. I agree. I had a hard time with it, because the "purist" in me kept fighting the "blah" every time someone would butcher the song. I must admit, though, that I really liked "Let It Be". She did great with that... but she kept it right with what the song was supposed to be about.
  10. It's not a surprise to me, I don't know why it is to everyone else. We will have negative GDP this quarter. No doubt.
  11. QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 06:47 PM) what a load of absolute false bulls***. oh, not really. "Fawning" may be a little harsh, but the reality is that he WAS made to feel all welcome and nice touchy feely good kind of stuff.
  12. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) Anyone catch Olbermann? He went off. I except him to be in a body bag in a year or so. He ended his monologue with "Good night and good luck" which I thought was pretty cool. So what did he say?
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:32 PM) Yes we should. It would be great if we tried seeing the Sox in Arlington. I know we tried that once and it didn't work out. But just meeting for a drink is good too. However, I think I'm pretty well booked up for this trip. The Sox are here the weekend AFTER the 4th of July, IIRC. I was looking at a schedule last week.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:18 PM) I'll be in Texas Friday ... let's go! We really should catch up sometime, even if it's not this trip - at least sometime.
  15. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) I don't have to play it to know what it is. Sometimes I think a man has stand on his own. Unless it's a very wide stance. With a little hand play under the stall. Oh wait, wrong political party.
  16. From an overall talent standpoint, this group of 12 is pretty damn good compared to most years, IMO.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 09:27 PM) Remember that Limbaugh led campaign to get Republican voters to support Hillary so she keeps the race going and keeps battering Obama? A few states ago, i.e. in Wisconsin, Obama was handily winning Republican crossover votes. In Texas and Ohio, it was much closer, only a single digit win. Tonight, according to CNN's exit polling, Republican crossover voters went 77-23 in favor of Hillary. That's somewhere in the neighborhood of a 50 point difference amongst that group between what we saw in the race 3 weeks ago and what we're seeing now. And it disgusts me. Hillary needs to go the eff away, at any cost.
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 07:11 AM) There are few things that compare to a nighttime shuttle launch. Being drunk on Daytona Beach during your senior year of college and watching a shuttle launch at 2 am rates up there as well. Did you bowl a perfect game while you were on the beach?
  19. Some of you may have already seen this, but it's true...
  20. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) http://www.pkarchive.org/column/31500.html Over the long term, that is correct. I agree with your general point about lowering taxes will do nothing but get built in for pricing down the road.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 12:11 PM) Hell I would show up to be abused for a couple of hours for $40K! That's just too easy... (where my picture of low hanging fruit when I need it). Oh wait, I don't have $40K just laying around. Nevermind, you lucky bastard.
  22. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) That's pretty accurate. In one of the econ classes I took last spring, the professor went over this example and showed how lowering the taxes won't save the consumer anything up front and will cost them (through higher taxes or decreased service) later on. The market has already set the acceptable price given demand. If you take out .30 in taxes, you're just increasing their profits .30. The price of gasoline won't really move and the only ones benefiting will be the oil companies. Did your economics professor explain pricing and supply and demand and how it doesn't get set by the oil companies? Now yes, they benefit, but they don't set the prices. Just want to clarify the point, is all.
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) I don't know, but it took only 2 posts for someone to claim he was going to get special treatment because of his party. Woohoo! 2 posts! Nah, this story is too sensationalized. The party doesn't matter. Sex doesn't matter.
  24. QUOTE(Soxy @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) It's all over the NYT and the Trib. Spitzer is totally f***ed. At least he won't have to pay for it this time. . . It's a shame, he had a lot of promise. But I've not read that he's resigning (yet). I had to throw my token comment out there. I haven't read a thing on the details... and I'm not sure I want to. Seriously, it's just sad, no matter what party.
