  2. That's right. So, 14,100 - 1,410 = 12,690.
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 08:36 PM) You're not serious. Here is his direct quote: Which the NY Sun writer somehow stretches into the idea that Durbin thinks the surge is working? He isn't even talking about the surge. This is nothing more than laughably bad journalism. And before you come back with "see, you can read anything into it you'd like", lets at least try to stick to reality. Read that quote and tell me how that says the surge is working. You, my friend, seem to be in denial of the factual reality in Iraq. /tinfoil hat exits far stage right.
  4. Hell, even Little Dick Durbin says the surge is working. What now? http://www.nysun.com/article/60135
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 07:55 PM) So how are people who know more than me reacting to breaking through 13k? It's still in the area of a "correction", if you go from about 13,800 - 1380 (or 10%) you're at 12,420. People are starting to get a little nervous because the Fed keeps dumping funds into the market to make sure there's enough liquidity (read: money to borrow). Today, they put $7 billion more into the system around lunch time and that's what got the market going down. The inflation reports today should give the Fed a little breather as far as inflation goes, but to me, that's still the higher risk as opposed to the "credit crunch", but not by much.
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 07:38 PM) Well.. if they were born AFTER the ARod fiasco I would not expect them to be posting here quite yet. ...Unless her name is Madison.. They just weren't paying attention. That's all I'm saying. It's hard to believe that was four years ago already.
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 07:32 PM) They have been there, and done that. Seriously. I feel like some of you have been living under rocks the past 6 years. Or not old enough to remember it (and no, that's not directed to you, CSS)... just sayin'.
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 07:32 PM) Tell me... how is it that a rising or stable death toll can be seen as a positive for stability? I fail to see how that aspect has anything to do with "what you want to believe". Because you can cherry pick #'s all day long and make them tell you anything you want them to. I could go find some #'s right now that says the violence is subsiding... but it won't matter.
  9. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 07:26 PM) ARod. Seriously. They've got to make a major run at him or they're a fraudulent organization. OOOOH, "Capitan Sarcasm" here.
  10. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 07:29 PM) It was started to give props to the finest manager in the game. If you don't know the history, then don't comment on it, 'kay?
  11. And it all, as always, depends on what you want to believe. Here's the bottom line. IF things were better, most people don't want to believe it anyway, and pretty much outright dismiss it as "BushCo lying again". I've heard it more then once in the last week, plus the instant EVERYTHING SUCKS IN IRAQ quotes that appear here on a daily basis. I'm not saying it's all rose smelling poop or anything over there, in fact, quite the opposite... but ANY traction and gain we get on anything over there is a sign that things could turn around, if given the chance. But, since everyone is so gung ho to "lose" and "get the ef out of there"... nothing positive is going to matter to you people.
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 05:46 PM) By all accounts? I have seen no accounts saying its more secure. IN fact, every story I've read says its pretty much the same old story. Can you provide some "accounts" saying that it is somehow safer or more secure? There's been NY Times pieces about things "getting better" on the ground. If the NYT reports it, it must be true. Come on now!
  13. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 05:57 PM) On NPR last week, a Republican senatory said that Petraeus said that they have "tactical momentum." Military victories are great, but that's not going to signify a real victory in this theater. A stable government will. Iraq, sadly, has no real working government. Honestly, we need better focus on political objectives in Iraq. Without it, we have lost - no matter if our military wins. And that is the issue... all we can do is provide the platform - THEY have to do it.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 05:46 PM) Money says we're about to see a link to the Pollack/O'Hanlon piece. Look at Nuke's pieces... can you get any more first hand then that?
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 05:41 PM) This is what I love about you conservatives. Thinking it's a bad thing for a person to complain about civilian casualties. I never said that.
  16. This is what I love about you liberals. Thanks Balta.
  17. You can't clean it up when it's not secure. And by all accounts, it's becoming more and more secure. It's up to them to do what they will with it.
  18. Two things: Seeing as how the military is controlled by the executive branch, why is this a surprise? But then again, you all want to say that the "good news" is a lie anyway... this is nothing but trying to spin anything positive into a negative before it even happens. And two, even the left is saying that there is "signficant progress" on the ground over there. Again, this is spin to nullify any "good news". Let's face it. If we get favorable results, the Democratic party loses. And also, as usual, the economy has to go in the s***ter for the Democrats to win - hence the seizing of the housing market - OH OH OH OH OH we NEED A gov't BAILOUT! It all goes back to the need to bail out stupid people who *GASP* didn't know their rates were going to go UP! Please.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 10:07 PM) I don't think there's nearly as much of this going on as you make it seem. If it is there, I'm not seeing it. For those who are paying attention, yes, exactly.
  20. U STEAL IMAGES FROM OTHER PEOPLE. LMAO.
  21. It's pretty simple really. Arow is not going to be as good as many of you here want him to be. All we will read for the next 3 years is what a let down Rowand is, and why did we get this POS back, and on and on and on... We need a new, "soxunknown" quantity in CF. What that is, I don't know... but for all the Arow love around here, it's a setup for a HUGE letdown when he's not playing for a contract.
  22. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) That's understandable. Minnesota is chok-ful-a Grinderiness. Grinderstad would send them over the legal limit. No, they have real grinders on that team, not glass boy wannabees.
  23. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) I've seen the Twins win a few division titles with less. Yea, when everyone else sucked. The big question, if they trot that out as a lineup, will be the bullpen. They can't have this stopgap goo crap of a bullpen, they better get some mentally tough people down there or we're looking at another frustrating summer next year.
  24. By law, you're entitled to 12 weeks (unpaid) leave. EARNED (not accrued) vacation time, etc, depending on company policy may count toward that.
  25. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) Who's DJ ? Dillweed Jackass.
