  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) Part of the problem with this whole discussion about stances on issues is that we're still what, a year and a half from the general, and at least 9 months from even the first primaries? This process has become so bloody drawn-out that things which take time, like developing detailed policy reccomendations that go beyond the simple "Get out of Iraq" or "Universal health care" sentiments just haven't had time to be fully developed and vetted...by almost any of the candidates. And even if they have developed full plans, its entirely possible things will change from the details currently written down before the votes start coming in. So right now, all we really have to evaluate most of these guys is the way they carry themselves, their speaking abilities, and roughly one or two moderate policy differences (i.e. do we withdraw totally from Iraq or do we keep a rapid-action force of some sort nearby, etc.). You're right. I agree, but as I said, based on where we are TODAY, Richardson is the guy who is the best candidate in my opinion.
  2. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) Wow, I'd hate to hear your opinion on the list of crap nominees on the other side of the aisle. BS, you and I banter back and forth quite a bit - but I'll jump in here and say that all the Republican candidates are complete jokes. Right now, based on what I know about all of the candidates, I would vote for Bill Richardson for president.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) Was he more or less inept than the people who were fired? I'd say about the same, probably.
  4. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 01:43 AM) HI GUYS Special announcement: Northsidesox and I are going to be meeting Sunday at about 12:30-12:45 for a Softball practice. Really we're meeting earlier but we won't be arriving at the destination until about those times. So, here's what we want: you! for practice! If you can make it to the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences on Sunday, around those times, until somewhere from 1:00-2:30, or so (I'm not sure -- NSS may have to leave sooner but if there are more of you I'll stick around with you, definitely) that'd be great. Come down and practice especially if you're in the Chicago area! Or just watch and shag flyballs for us or something, if you're not going to be on the team but live in the area. Can anyone come? Should be fun. Mods, I'm posting this in two places -- as a thread in SoxTalk Forum and on the Softball Info thread -- so it gets seen more. Hope you don't mind! It's gonna be a little difficult for me to make it. Sounds like fun.
  5. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 08:24 PM) Kap does. No, I don't. I just don't think that this rises to the level that you all do in terms of him leaving office. Now, personally, Gonzo is basically neutered, and should be told to go away "at the pleasure of the president". The reason isn't for breaking any laws, but for being an inept jackass.
  6. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) And that is entirely the reason I will not vote for him. And I do agree he seems the most honest. This is one guy who has never waivered from his personal beliefs and isn't afraid to tell you about it. I may disagree with him hugely, but I applaud him and actually respect him for being the most stand up guy running for president.
  7. Look, if there were so much gas on this fire, I would think that the said attorneys that were fired would have been running as fast as they could for a camera to tell their stories. Since none of them did, this is nothing further then a witch hunt to get rid of people that they all hate. I'm not saying they haven't given reason for it, but that's what's happening. Gonzo has done a TERRIBLE job of handling this from day 1, and it has turned into a political s***storm of epic proportions instead of just being up front in the first place. The day the firings happened, it should have been: 8 people were dismissed. They serve at the pleasure of the president, and we decided to move in a different direction. We thank them for their service. Questions? If that would have happened, none of this would matter. Even when these people have nothing to hide, they act like they have something to hide. That makes them stupid asses and incompetent in my book, not criminals like those on the left are trying to paint.
  8. QUOTE(Soxy @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 05:12 PM) I totally agree, and I am so over Clinton and Obama. Seriously, new choice please!
  9. The elementary school that's two blocks from my house recorded 8.45 inches of rain since 2 this afternoon (it's 10:40 now). Earler, the tornado sirens went off (again) - and I have not seen anything like it since I've been down here. The rain was so hard you couldn't see across the street, and then the wind would shift right away to another direction and blow the rain back the direction it had just blown from. Really weird stuff. It's quiet now, but man there's a lot of water around. Our back yard has 6 inches of standing water and between our houses is like a river of water as everyone's yard drains out.
  10. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) I hear you about this crazy weather. I almost had to think about putting my kids in long pants to go to school today. That is strange, especially for your neck of the woods.
  11. Well, here we go again. This time it's not a warmfront right over top of us, but a dryline - that usually means big hail. The last time we had a tornado watch, we had a tornado 5 miles from my house, and even last week we had one (when there were no watches or warnings) a mile from my house. These tornado watches (wheeeeeeeeere is it???? ) are getting old.
  12. you're only 10% the nerd southsider is.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) Well, the obvious debate is that the VT students didnt sign up for possible death, the servicemen did. I disagree with your assessment... but as you said, that's another debate.
  14. Dallas finally wins an OT game, and they are back home where they hopefully snap another losing streak (home playoff losses in a row). If it gets to a game 7, it's anyone's game - these two teams are MAGNIFICENT defensive teams.
  15. It's "good news", but we can't have that. It's NOT GWB's fault.
  16. holy s***! I just saw the news... WAY TO GO MARK B!
  17. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 01:41 AM) So, my question: If Gonzo is asked to read his written testimony into the record under oath on Thursday, and it turns out the Sampson email is corroborated, wouldn't that constitute perjury? You can only hope.
  18. It's over and done with, as we are there today, right or wrong. So now, it makes it ok to just bust ass out of there as fast as we can? I just can't buy that mindset, but boy, it sure makes it easy on people who think that way.
  19. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) Now this is the McCain I've been waiting to hear from. I agree. I wonder if he has anything left in the tank at this early stage of the game? (Isn't it silly to even have to phrase this like this???)
  20. Yea, because HE controls all of that. Give me a break.
  21. Well, by a lot of accounts, we are treated with at least some sort of respect. And, of course, we're "crusaders" (aka occupiers) to others. In regards to my first comment, there's two parts. One, the Bushies completely got it wrong after the first sox weeks (WEEKS!) of the war. Two, ever since then, they've been covering their asses. I'm in total agreement with ya'll on that one. However, I think part of the "stay the course" mentality has been to not freak out the 35-45% of the country who can't stomach the reality of war. Now, out of those 35-45%, I think almost all of them, if told the absolute truth (no sugar coat BS) about how important it is to "finish the job", they'd come around. But, they keep sticking their heads up each other's rear ends, saying everything's fine, and it's not. The last few people who are NEVER going to support a WORD that the Bushies say are the ones who scream the loudest (read: Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and their camera smooching techniques) are the ones that the Bushies are implicitly catering to in a very twisted way because they do hold power. One thing that StrangeSox is right about is that they had 4 years to get it right, and they never did.
  22. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 02:41 PM) LOL. This administration screws up just about every facet of the occupation and its somehow liberals' faults? It's both sides - but I think that if we were more united, we'd be back home the right way sooner rather then later. I also think that we are wussing out because we can't fight in a "REAL WAR, OMG!!!". The policies set by the Bushies have been listening to the libs (I know, what an oxymoron) trying to not inflict too much damage so they could try to keep them "on board" longer - which they weren't in the first place, so why bother? Now, we're seeing the results. If you don't go into a war to win (as opposed to appeasement), forget it. And I will agree with BigSqwert's hidden implication that we were never there to "win" in the first place, so we shouldn't have gone in. Would you agree, BS?
  23. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 02:16 PM) Really? I wanted us to never go to war with Iraq so I didn't get EXACTLY what I wanted. But we did... and so now, the next best thing is to "get the hell out" (at any cost). WOOT!
