Rumsfeld Resigns
QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) Most polarizing post in the whole damn thread. Possibly all day. I would really appreciate one post of yours that doesn't resort to mocking and hyperbole in this forum. Sorry, that's harsh, but you cry partisanship all day, and then you post something like this? Please. You know what? Normally, I'll let this go, but since I got "called out"... I think the little smug remarks and all that s*** that is dispersed throughout without being near as direct as I was about it was right about par for the course. It's the "hidden hyperbole", if you will, that didn't get addressed by you. Every f***ing post by a few of you in here (and not you Soxy, I understand your point, but I stepped it up from the little digs to what you call "mocking and hyperbole"). If you want to start slinging s***, sling some both ways, and that includes some of you who responded to Soxy's comments to me. I think it's amazing that we have an election, where change was inevitable, and when that change occurs and even leads to more change, we get nothing but snarky, rude, dickhead veiled comments about how our President is nothing but a lying jackass. It grows tiresome, and my "hyperbole" is in direct response to that. That's all I will say about it, but you know who you are, and the jackassery should stop. Maybe then I wouldn't have to be "mocking all the time". If you read 90% of my other posts in other threads on this whole situation, it's pretty neutral.

Some states have a law where it's automatic. Not sure if VA is one of those. I agree, tho, Chisoxfn... no recount. Just move on, unlike Webb would have.

Rumsfeld Resigns
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 06:46 PM) Back to the cynicism issue. If you are listening to the conference you heard Bush say that even as he was telling reporters that Rummy was safe for the rest of the term he was really already looking for a replacement. And still the cause for our cynicism is questioned? Yes. Why should he just tell the media everything going on in the White House, government, CIA, and whatever the hell else? You all got what you wanted - control of Congress and the EVIIIIIIIIL Donald Rumsfeld to resign all within 24 hours of each other. So, for just one day, can you let it rest for once? I guess not. He answered the question of how can you work with some one like Nancy who has been ridiculing him for months and years... politics makes you say stupid things - and I think he included himself in that as well. But of course, Bush and Cheney need to go, too. Hail Nancy!

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) Staying relevant, and visible, are key. Here is the thing on some of those "city" issues - you may be conservative on some of the financial stuff, but there is more to it than that. And the solutions don't tend towards one party or another. For example... --Crime. How do you reduce it? More cops, or less cops but better qualified? Or do you target the rehab side? Or do you prefer an indirect method like job corps and other employment improvements, etc.? Many of those questions are not party-aligned. --Education. Some of your suggestions on your website for the schools are also non-party specific. Its a matter of execution and methodology, and not as much the curriculum, if you are a mayor. As a school system leader (mayor in this case), you are more of a business leader, and by nature that usually means your are more apolitical. --Zoning. Where are you on eminent domain, which is becoming a hot topic? The GOP is split on this, with some Libertarian-types and small-gov conservatives really upset with the widening use of that tactic. And they happen to align with some liberal Dems on the subject. Being in MC, if you look to rejuvenate certain parts of town, you'll run into this issue. I think its just a different playing field at the city level. Red and blue mean different things. We luuuuuuuuv it when you analyze.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) I have always been a volunteer. I have always been a big believer in doing, instead of talking. I have worked as a ref at our Y for years, and as a youth group leader in a religious group. It also sounds like I am going to be a mentor for a kid without a father. How scary is that? For those who know you, not at all. For those who don't... AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I also happen to think that this sets up some big things in 2008 for Republicans. They needed to lose the arrogance. The problem is, it will result in living in the past for two years (impeachment, what happened in Iraq, etc) instead of looking ahead. This alone will make people see that the Democrats can't govern either. Remember (and PA just said it) this wasn't the Dems winning on issues, it was the Republicans losing on the status quo.

I'll be honest, that's why I'm disappointed more then anything right now. This wasn't about the Dems winning, this was about the Repubs losing. And that really sucks for our country. THEY DIDN'T RUN ON ANYTHING! We all lose. Bring on impeachment.

holy s***... 100% precincts reporting in VA, Webb up by 1,200 votes STATEWIDE. That's f***ing insane. It looks like Tallant will win in MO, but it depends on where the precincts are that have not reported. Probably inner city, probably favoring Dems.

Now that Ms. Pelosi is Speaker, and the world is ALL YOURS, what are you going to do, besides go to Disney Land? I seriously want to know, since most of the platform couldn't be discussed because "Karl Rove would tear it apart".

It's looking less and less likely that will happen. The House is definitely going, though. So, basically two years of complete stagnation. How fun.

Wow, Rep's are up in TN, VA, and MO. Yes, it's still early, but that's interesting. If they hold those three it's going to be really tough for the Dems to gain control.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 03:11 AM) Latest update 2002-1835-1729 with about 20 precincts left to go, and supposedly the majority of them are in MC, so there might still be a push left to go. Regardless, I have to say, at least 1727 people outside of my household voted for ME. Wow. 19 times, why? Didn't I tell you that I registered 1800 times?

Welcome to my campaign for world domination
To be honest, it looks like she had some "get out the vote" type of support, because she was pretty visible on the web, etc. She was the one Ms. Kap saw on cbs2chicago.com's website when we told you about it, so I think she must have at least some things out there beyond the typical stuff. No matter what, though, I think you can still be proud of what you accomplished!! You got some really good things out there, and that's a lot of the battle.

I have the website that updates and just saw it. Man, that's close... 54% in, 46% to go. I hope that you get a strong finish!

I just couldn't do it. I REALLY thought about it, and decided he's too much of a cornball.

November 7 Election Day Thread
Instead of looking at the thread with all the stuff before today, I'll create a thread of its own... So, we're hearing of lawsuits already being filed by Dem lawyers. Imagine that. I'm sure it's corrupt out there!! It's the only POSSIBLE way for the GOP to win is supress the good Dems down. Seriously, it does sound like there's some issues out there. Let's hope they get resolved.

Our area is very Republican, and they turned away a lot of voters in line two years ago. You had to be in the building by 7 or you were turned away. It happens both ways...

Straight Ticket Voting
LOL After saying that I don't vote straight ticket, today was the first time it happened. Either all of them were unopposed, or I couldn't vote for them. And I held my nose and voted for Perry. Ick.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) A lot of the perceived tightening is simply what everybody knows is going to happen with a disillusioned party base come election day. Lots of them can spend the months running up to the election complaining that the party has lost its way and threatening to take their vote away. But when election day comes, many of these voters can't bring themselves to vote for the alternativve and they, as the cliche' goes, "hold their noses and pull the handle" for the party candidates despite their better judgement. None of that is to say the narrowing gap isn't a bit unsettling, because it is. It's just expected that the bluster from disillusioned on-the-fence voters is going to diminish by election day. That's a good description, Flaxx. And you're right.
