  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 06:17 PM) Ok I found it, it's Article VI This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding. Which is why state laws are then held to a federal standard. However, this doesn't mean that federal laws "trump" state law, it just means there's a precedent over state law - local laws can apply as long as they are not against the constitution - it's explicit, not implicit, here. It's that simple. ::::::: While I'm at it, who here votes for "living and breathing" for a constitution and argues that it's an "old outdated document"?
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) Ideally, the government shouldn't be involved in marriage at all, but that's another discussion. There's one thing we agree 100% on.
  3. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) I really don't understand what that refers to. It's exactly what Barackus the Great is doing. He's making the government so large, so intertwined with our daily lives that when anyone goes to cut anything, they'll scream just like you all are screaming now. OH THE TEACHERS. OH, NOT MY (insert social program here). The system CANNOT support what Democrats have created, and now someone comes in and cuts programs, you act like he's got blood on his hands. It's a fallacy of Rex, or something...
  4. So basically, let's translate this (bookmark this one, too NSS)... "If you don't support a VAT, taxes up the ass, and the rape of our treasury system, I'm going to call your bluff and call you to the carpet for not supporting all my entitlement programs and then after the fact and raising taxes so high that productivity may never recover." And notice it's always about ME, I, MYSELF... a little narcassitic... just a little.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) SCOTUS voted to uphold SOX in a 5-4 decision but changed the way the oversight board is controlled. Basically, it's easier to fire the members at-will instead of a protracted process. But the bulk of the law stands. Right, but this opens the whole bill to review, not just that part. The way SOX was written, it's (almost) an all or nothing thing. With the "corporate hate" going on right now, it's going to get really interesting to see what happens to this.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 11:06 AM) lol, and there's the problem right there. It says it all, doesn't it? Entitlements up the ass and a lack of appreciation for what they really have... it's no wonder they don't give a s*** about liberty and what it represents or means.
  7. I can think independently, unlike drones of Obama. Obama could be a Republican and if he were doing the same s***, I would be just as opposed. In fact, probably moreso. Unlike you all, who have to insult by party affiliation, I care about what happens without regard to party.
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) wow, if that's true they must have heard nobody wants to go there Why would they? They f***ing suck.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) HOLY BALLS THE BULLS ARE GOING TO SIGN LEBRON JAMES AND CHRIS BOSH.
  10. I think it's your boys who hate America and liberty - we gotta be beaten back. We gotta become second rate. The above says it all. We cannot lead according to our leadership. I like my America, you know, the one where I can have the freedom ... not yours, where I get told what to do.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) How exactly do you think that the cost of living in the U.S. is actually going to go down? Are you arguing that deflation would be a good thing? No, but you are.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) Hey Kap, welcome to a democracy. That means you don't always get what you want. UTOPIA BABY!!!!!!!!! The sad part is you are losing your own personal liberties every day, and could care less... this just proves it. You all really are drones to the government.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:02 PM) You laugh but that's what we're becoming. Government is taking everything out of the private sector. That's not called capitalism. I'm not saying we're commies or anything, but it certainly is socialism. Aka, Europe. And guess what? Their system doesn't work - it's WAY worse then what we (used to) have. Entitlements up the ass never works for ingenuity, growth, or otherwise.
  14. No demand? I thought Barackus the Great was going to fix that? Now we've spent trillions and still don't have demand. Why? Because you can't create private sector demand by shifting the money into government. Huh, what a concept.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) So, now that your side lost the election and we passed a bill we were at least ok with, isn't it just as fair for us to say that if you don't like it, go somewhere else? The difference is you want us to be like Europe and everywhere else, and the rest of us want America, not the United States of Socialism.
  16. OH, sniff, sniff, you're right. No profits. No system but single payor. It's FAAAAAAAN TASTIC. Medical innovations are only coming from places where there are single payors. Government is the only answer. Eliminate profits everywhere... we can't have that. We only get bread lines, rice patties, the best medical system in the world (no cutbacks in service whatsoever) etc. UTOPIA BABY! :::: There are very little in the way of innovations in a single payor system. The advances that are made are made from our system. Let's get stupid over "ZERO" and "NONE", shall we? You get my point but this is always what you all turn this into - s*** nitpicky crap. Treatment is down MUCH MUCH more because they curb supply AND demand - people don't even bother because they know they are not going to get the services they need. Why do you think the British have terrible teeth (oh oh, because I mean ALL of them... = destroy the point so that you can make yourself look like you know what you're talking about... Balta debate style, again). Insurance companies provide a service and a means to protect both physicians and patients, IF the system were to work the way it should. That's part of the problem. It's called risk. But, you want the government to take care of that risk for you, and in my book, that's not acceptable because now we don't have a choice anymore. With risk comes a very high reward for the most part - and the good there outweighs the bad. See BP - and for the love of God, no, I'm not defending them. I'm only saying that our way of life has given us great rewards, but since you all don't like any of those benefits, go live somewhere else.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 12:49 PM) 2008? Anyway, the world's doing exactly what you want and refocusing on cutting back on stimulus, firing people on government jobs (i.e. teachers), and ending unemployment benefits to alleviate debt. Unless you've been completely wrong, that means the world should start growing faster. Yea, EXAAAAACTLY what I want. You're something else.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) Here we go again, Barack Obama is the entire fault everything wrong has happened. Get over it. (too easy. sorry.) For the last two years, of course, considering that he's done everything wrong that he could have.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) Kap...something tells me your prediction for a bad 2011 doesn't look too good suddenly... You're right... what am I going to do? Seriously, though, it's setting up to be the worst year in modern times economically. There's several factors for it.
  20. Here we go again, George W. Bush is the entire fault everything wrong has happened. Get over it.
  21. The problem is, these programs have bloated the system so much that it will never recover.
  22. I have an idea. Let's pass 15 TRRRRRRRRRRRillion dollars worth of entitlements and then bankrupt our ass. That'll work. We've already done that. Mark my words right here and now. 2011 is going to be BRUTAL.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 01:55 PM) At least in my world, I'm still of the belief that we already have the technology to be dumping oil and dirty energy in general. We just don't have the will. Sure we do - but that depends on your definition of "dirty energy". I'm sure everything's "dirty" that doesn't have wind or solar involved. And if that's your definition, it will not work, which is why it hasn't happened.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 11:14 AM) No, I don't and I didn't say that. I'm asking you to support your claim that single-payer or nationalized health care leads to zero innovation, because so far you haven't. And we have demonstrable evidence to the contrary, because medical research and advancement does come out of those countries and their is still profit motive to provide better services. But, just to throw another wrench into your argument, where does a lot funding for medical research in this country come from, especially basic science? Spoiler alert: NIH! Government Saves! The ridiculous assertion that Britain hasn't made any significant medical contributions since 1945 aside, you still haven't explained why a single-payer system means there's no reason to improve business operations, medical techniques, customer service, medicine, etc. You can capture larger client bases and/ or reduce expenses even if your price is fixed. You can treat more people with new drugs and procedures and better diagnoses. And, of course, the radical idea that some people might become doctors, pharmacists, chemists, biologists, nurses, etc. because they want to help people. I never said "ZERO" - but they are not a leader. That's what I want, I don't know about you.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) So no medical research or advancement has come out of Britain and other single-payer countries for several decades? Do you really believe that? So you really believe that Britian (and any other single payer country) is the hotbed of medical research and advancement compared to the innovations in the United States? Wait, yea, I know you believe that, because you would have to think that the United States sucks ass in everything they do to keep wanting it to be like everyone else.
