QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) Well Kotsay has 7 assists to Rowand's 2 and has been a part of 3 double plays which tells you a little something about his range. But it gives you an idea of what his arm is like. He made an awesome throw tonight from CF tonight that almost nabbed Iguchi on that tag-up from second. I was amazed at how close he came to getting Tad out... As for him vs. Rowand, I'd take either. The contract is decent for a CF'er who's one of the best defenders at such a premium position. It might be overpaying a little bit, but I don't think it'll hurt them -- and, if Kotsay is able to get that SLG% and OBP closer to his career numbers, it'll be a solid contract. How much did Steve Finley get in the offseason? I think he might have gotten more, and I know which one of the two I'd rather have...

It's 'cause of Moneyball. Our losing, of course.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 08:33 PM) Trent YAWN-ey. 'Nuff said. NHL blows until they start back again and the Blackhawks get Jagr, Igiinla, and Hasek. Yeah, until the Hawks get Jagr... :rolly Please -- know something about hockey before you post in a hockey thread. This is probably the worst of the anti-hockey posts I've seen on here in a while.

The catch he made on Podsednik's soft liner to shallow left-center was awesome. He got an awesome jump on the ball, I thought there was no chance he'd get to it... It's really fun watching him play CF.

Harris thinks he should play everyday.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) With a bat coming off the bench, you need clutch hits. For some of you it's hard to believe that there is a difference between a walk and a single. All Harris had to do yesterday was move Podsednik over to third, but he couldn't do that. Who gives a s*** about his OBP (.301 isn't impressive anyways) if he can't even move the runner over? But that kind of stuff doesn't show up in the box score, so I assume you don't care about it then. I know Timo sucks, but Harris has been so bad lately he has become the #1 candiate to leave this team once Gload comes back. Timo was good yesterday, but what has he done earlier in the season to warrant staying up here? I'm not gonna make up my mind based on one game, and Timo was pretty not-clutch this year -- other than Frank's first game back, which, if Harris doesn't draw the walk, Perez doesn't get the opportunity. We have more depth in the OF, too -- and Harris plays much better defense at a more important defensive position (2B as opposed to LF). Regardless of last night's game, I still think Perez should go down. And, Perez hasn't been so clutch this year -- I couldn't find the stats, but I just found 'em. With RISP, he's 3-for-17, and in late innings, he's 2-for-8. I'm not going to judge him on 25 combined ABs. But he didn't even get on-base at a .300 clip last year (waits for the clutch stats), and that -- well, it downright sucks. -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) I was actually hoping he would be our future leadoff man... a Podsenick in grooming. 22 SBs, 11 CSs. Better lower that second number, or he isn't going to be all that effective on the basepaths... (Edited out my damn grammar mistakes)

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) Timo's OPS is 90 points higher than Willie's right now. There is no God! I'd rather have a guy who has a better chance to get on-base off the bench... Funny, you weren't here when Harris was hitting over .300 -- it's pretty easy to rip on a guy when he's slumping, too. -

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 04:48 AM) How many times did he fail to get Pods over? How many times did he fail to make contact at all? Timo showed me a little something today. Yup, he sure did. That he can have his best offensive night of the season, going 3-for-4, and still have an OBP under .300. Meanwhile, a struggling Willie Harris -- who is clearly not playing at his best, or even at his average self right now (not saying he's hurt, just saying he's not playing well) -- still has an OBP over .300. Plus he's better defensively. Plus he can steal a bag late in the game. I'm not gonna try and defend Harris as an everyday player. But he's better than Timo -- a lot better. And I just got home from the game. Any reason why Rowand/Thomas/Iguchi all were benched, after a day off? Any *good* reasoning for that yet? -
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 03:49 AM) Young. Is. Awesome. Holy s*** -- 2-for-4, a 2B, and 2 BBs.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 03:59 AM) As of today, Valido is too low, and Nick Lemon is about 20 spots too high, IMO. Nick Lemon is a better prospect than Harrell, Russell, Cunningham, Brooks, Andy Gonzalez, etc? Where is Jenks? I think the Lemon thing was a joke...

7-3 Royals! Buck with a two-run single on the drawn in IF. Still nobody out, runners at the corners, bottom 7. No more updates from me. Keep it comin', KC!
-
Bases loaded, nobody out. 5-3 KC. Bottom 7.
-
Runners on the corners, nobody out for the Royals . Bottom of the 7th, 4-3 KC.

Sorry, but he has the slightest bit of trade value, he ought to be shipped to Washington for whatever KW can get. You know how Bowden loves those toolsy OFers... But seriously, there isn't a whole lot of room for JoBo. We already have Pods/Rowand/Dye, and Anderson is next in line.

Speaking of Cunningham, Jim Callis at BA really likes the pick. I got the post-draft issue, and he did a little mock-draft where he picked 17th in each round, and he grabbed Cunningham in the 5th round (Sox took him in the 6th). I think he likes that he showed such good potential with wood bats.
-
Tracey is 10th on the list, BB. And I'd assume Baj isn't on there because of his age.

Link. Press conference tomorrow. I get the sense that the players like Yawney a lot more than they liked Sutter. That doesn't mean more wins, but hopefully they'll be in a more aggressive system.

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 03:21 AM) he hasnt played a full season so how can you judge it Gload's career high for homers in a season -- 18, in 508 AB's at Charlotte. Powerful is the last word that should be used to describe Gload. EDIT: And I'm one of Gload's biggest fans. But, you should be happy if he got 15 HRs in a full season of ABs. Like qwert said, good gap power -- 40+ doubles twice, 30+ three times.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 02:32 AM) I know this isn't probably the first thing that is of concern, but if Jenks was to come up and show great stuff/ability....he could be a very valuable trading piece. A lot of teams would be interested in a potential closer like Jenks. Lets just hope he does good. It's been a long path for him. To upgrade where? I think we all (myself included) have to start to realize that it's pretty unlikely that Williams will upgrade at a position player's spot. Even Crede's hotcorner -- they love his defense, and think his bat is servicable. The spot where I bet we'll see a move made is at the relief spot -- and if Jenks comes up and shows he can do a decent job, then that takes a lot of pressure off of KW for making a move. -

Joe Morgan? Is that you? Billy Beane didn't write the book. An author saw a story, and wrote about it. I'm 99% positive that Toronto has a payroll that's less than New York's, Boston's, and Baltimore's. Almost positive. And, Boston has a lot of money, but so do a lot of other teams. Why isn't Texas in the playoffs every year? Or the Mets? Seattle generally has a high payroll? And our payroll has exceeded Minny's for the past couple seasons, too, no? I'm not saying Adam Dunn is the best player. If you take defense into account, I'm not sure he'd crack my top 20. But offensively, yes. *(Ack -- by "offensively, yes" I mean he's in my top 20. Not the best offensive player in the game, no. Sorry for making that unclear). I don't follow the Reds exclusively, but I've heard that Dunn has been pushed down in the order to 6th/7th. It's a pretty big difference when you have -- I dunno, Rich Aurillia hitting behind you -- as opposed to having Garrett Anderson or Melvin Mora or Raffy Palmiero behind you. If he's not seeing good pitches, he should swing at them? His OBP seems to be higher in RISP situations, so it looks like he's not getting very good pitches to hit.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) Batting average means you can hit your way on base. OBP is great and all but you need to be able to get hits at times. He's never going to drive in 120 runs because he's just can't a ton of hits when he needs to. By the way it's hard for me to believe that Dunn can a a top 10 offensive player when he's basically a platoon player, .197 batting average against lefties :puke ...in 92 AB's. But hey, if we like sample size so much, I think Kevin Walker eventually should pitch well, 'cause he had such a good Spring Training. Three year splits line vs. lefties -- .241/.363/.483 -- good enough for me.
