  1. Damn! 18 K's/9 IP. Ah, the joy of sample size.
  2. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 01:19 AM) Can I start complaining yet? Go right ahead. It's a little too cool outside for summer. Ozzie's fault. I'm tired. Kenny Williams' fault. I don't have enough money in my wallet. Reinsdorf's fault. EDIT: Here, I'll make this post productive. The Sox lineup... (thanks, Red from BTF) Podsednik Iguchi Rowand Konerko Everett Dye Pierzynski Crede Uribe
  3. Offensively? Dunn worse than Tejada? You're kidding, right? Going off of career averages, you lose almost .100 OPS % points with Tejada, about .050 OBP % points, and .040 SLG% points. Overall player, sure, you take Tejada 'cause he's a stud on defense. But offensively, not a chance. Vlad, yeah. He's up there. I was going off the top of my head, don't know why I forgot about him. Even so, what does AVG mean, again? A guy isn't great because he doesn't have a good batting average?
  4. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) Vizquel has the added dimension of being a lefty, a tremendous bunter, someone who can steal a base (13 this year out of 20 attempts), and he can work the count and draw a walk. In other words, a perfect player for Ozzie-ball. 13/20 SB means he's not adding much. In fact, it means he probably shouldn't be doing it so often -- less than 75% success rate. Stealing bases is not an asset for Vizquel. And his defense is much worse than Uribe's, 3E8 posted the numbers for season's prior.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) Top 5 player in what--His division?? I like Dunn but until he can hit over .245 I don't think you can consider him a top 5 offensive player but maybe that's just me. Name some guys better than him offensively... Pujols, Bonds, Manny, Ortiz. And then there's a bunch of guys who are right around where he's at, like Helton. What does BA mean? Let's see, Dunn gets on-base at a real good rate, and when he hits the ball, he homers or doubles. I can give a damn what his BA is when he has a 150+ OPS+...
  6. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) And Crede is going to break out this season and the A's are going to make the playoffs. Never said Crede was going to break out, but if you can find a post where I said he'd hit anything above .260, let me know. I believe I said that Crede would do about as good as Vinny Castilla, which, they're within .010 OPS points of each other (Castilla in the lead, of course). And, after going on a 4-20 streak at one point, Oakland is now two games under .500. Unfortunate that we're running into one of the hottest teams in baseball this weekend -- Blanton, Haren, and Zito have had awesome June's, and they're slowly starting to get healthy again. Considering their second half records over the past couple of years, I certainly am not going to count them out. But like I said, unless I was really hammered, I don't recall saying Crede would break out. You're correct about Oakland, but I'd rather you not put words in my mouth.
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 06:29 PM) He has control problems but high K/9 numbers. This leads me to believe he get's people to swing at his out pitch when it isn't in the strike zone. Is this the case? Well, it means he has awesome stuff but hasn't been able to harness it fully yet. You should probably talk to Tom (BHamBarons) -- or Rex. I think those two have seen him the most (live) out of anyone here, so I'll digress.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) He could probably use a little blush and eyeliner. I needed that, SS2K. Thanks.
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) Serious question to those who know....How is Jenks coming along? Can we expect him in the majors this year? Next year? Excellent "stuff". Good K/9 numbers, atrocious BB/9 numbers. But, then again, some say we shouldn't look at minor league stats. So, I guess we need to look at his 'makeup'?
  10. QUOTE(Beastly @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) Deal them all, I don't want them here... Post of the year.
  11. Congrats to Mike Stanton, as you've become Soxtalk's *Official* "Flavor of the Week". If you recall, Kevin Walker also had this spot for about a month, as well as Arizona Diamondback Alex Cintron. I'm sure that we'll see tons and tons of stats on you -- sometimes bolded, other times provided by links -- that you know we haven't ever seen before. Oh... and this is a good move, 'cause Kevin Walker >>> Neal Cotts. Right?
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 03:21 AM) Oh please god! But not really.....WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to many strike-outs for my taste. I'll want him when he gets more RBI's than K's.... Ugh, who gives a damn when you're hitting 50+ homers and walking 100+ times? I can care less about the strikeouts. He's a top ten offensive player. Maybe even top five.
  13. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 03:20 AM) Any chance he could be converted into a 1B? Isn't he originally a 1B? And, corner OF too, right? I don't care if we have to give up two of our top prospects, if he's available at the end of this season -- meaning, didn't get traded at the deadline -- Kenny ought to be doing everything in his power to get Dunn. Hell, get the Mets involved and send Konerko to the Mets to make it a three way deal. Not many players excite me like Adam Dunn does. He's so, so good.
  14. Umm Umm Umm.... Dunn on the block. Josh Fields + Brandon McCarthy. There's a start. Take Sean Tracey too. :drool :drool :drool at Adam Dunn.
  15. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) Why is this board so enamored with BAJ. Why isn't every scout in the country looking at this guy? Why doesn't anyone want to trade for him? Its because he is not good enough for the majors.Again its my opinion but outside of this board, nobody in the country cares about this guy. You're judging him off of about ten innings pitched in the majors... Whatever -- so, he can put up an ERA hovering around or below 1.00, and strike out well over 9/9 IP, yet he can't make it in the bigs, even as a guy who's gonna be the last one in the bullpen? Sorry -- I'm not buying it. You don't strike out 50 in 43 (approx.) IP, have an ERA of 1.27, pitching in the bandbox that is Charlotte, and not be able to make it in the bigs. I'm not making him out to be Eric Gagne 2, but, IMO, he can certainly be more useful than someone like Jose Vizcaino... EDIT: And my wanting Baj to be up with the big club has nothing to do with him posting here. That doesn't mean a whole lot to me. You don't see me calling for Jim Bullard to be up here, do you? It's 'cause he's put up outstanding numbers at AAA, and he deserves his shot with the Sox.
  16. Got some beer, quickman? Game over, huh? Go eat some f***ing crow.
  17. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) Blame this loss on ozzie The game's over...?
  18. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:47 AM) YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARDDDDDDDDDDD YES!!!!!!!!!! Shh, Donkey. Thomas doesn't know what he's doing at the plate.
  19. Just to get some other opinions on it... Which player (defensively -- keep offense out of it) would you rather have? 2004 Carlos Lee in LF, or 2005 Scott Podsednik in LF? Real nice job by Shingo. Excellent.
  20. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:40 AM) Hmmm....the frustrated fan at the game that was on tv fits the discription... I was thinking the same thing. LOL, that's Tony for ya...
  21. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:31 AM) Yet, when the bases were loaded and Politte was pitching with no outs, I didn't see anyone saying that he would get out of it. It's nice when you just don't say anything and use hindsight, isn't it? Who gives a damn? It's a lot better to say nothing at all rather than, "Oh, this game is over" -- and I'm 100% positive that the posters who've been here for a while would agree.
  22. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:25 AM) Does that mean you are conceding a loss here? Why else would you say that? You must be thinking that Shingo will blow the game here. Yep, Jabroni, that's exactly what I'm doing. Because, you know, I'm known for doing things like that, right? Right?
  23. Over/under on how many times we see a dumb nickname like Dingo? I'll set it at four.
  24. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) Frank takes way too many pitches? I am boggled. We b**** when our hitters don't take pitches, we b**** when Frank takes too many pitches. Tell me, baseball gurus...what is the exact number of pitches each hitter is supposed to take? Is there a specific number? Capn... I just shake my head sometimes. It's funny -- 'cause you knew if something went wrong when Thomas came back, he'd be immediately blamed for disrupting the 'chemistry'.
  25. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 01:58 AM) Well, i Don't know if it's selfishness, but it's quite obvious that all Frank cares about at this point in his career are HRs. He wants to get to 500 I certainly don't see that. He's still walking about as much as he was. I dunno, I bet a guy on this team could have a .950 OBP, and some of you would b**** about the .050 that he didn't get on base. But I'll digress and limit my posting in these threads. b**** away.
