  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) Keith, they did what you wanted, pick a high profile guy who will be an extremely tough sign. Let's hope it works out for the Sox. Not a bad strategy with a 19th round pick. I'm extremely happy, signing him or not signing him. It's ballsy to take such a tough sign, let's hope they can get it done.
  2. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:33 PM) Well, Garland was acquired when he was in Low-A, Cotts had limited if-any AA experience. Harris was near-MLB-ready. Crede was fully home-grown, Buehrle also. Rowand also. Again, the likes of McCarthy, Rogowski, Chris Young, Sweeney, Anderson, Pedro Lopez, Andy Gonzalez, Wes Whisler, Bobby Jenks, Lumsden, Liotta, Gio, Robert Valido, etc etc form the base for a VERY solid organization that if nothing else, has a lot of in-demand talent that could bring very good plays in via trade (such as the Garcia deal)... Harris was a bad example, but I was sort of leaning towards (with Garland and Cotts) that we basically developed these guys ourselves...
  3. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) Thanks. After looking this guy up, it really appears he wants to be a Longhorn. He said he vows to honor his commitment. So, this seems like a long...long...long shot. Money tends to open some eyes. Let's hope the Sox throw seven figures at him... Or, at least, that's what I hope.
  4. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 05:36 AM) I disagree with the minors still being useless. This system since 2000 has given us a Starting CF a #1 Starter in Mark and via trade Got us Freddie Garcia. The Consider what we still have in Brandon McCarthy, Brian Anderson, Ryan Sweeney, Bobby Jenks Gio and a couple others. ...as well as Jon Garland, Neal Cotts, and to a lesser extent, Willie Harris and Joe Crede (like it or not). There's some good homegrown talent on this team.
  5. Note on Richard from BA:
  6. TIE GAME! TONY CLARK THREE RUN SHOT!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a bomb! Straight shot to center field, more than 434 deep!!!!
  7. Wow -- the two inning save? Real impressive. And a sinker at 94? Filthy.
  8. Now, the bad news... 8-5 Twinks, Cuddyer homers... :headshake
  9. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 03:20 AM) Yeah, I've been spending a little while trying to do research, but it's tough. With so many JC/CC, HS, and small college players, it's hard to find their stats and stuff on them. It's fairly easy with the major college guys, at least. After the Sox/Rox game and Twinks/DBacks game, I'll probably do a little research myself. Damn basketball had me miss everything past round six...
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 03:19 AM) Getz is one of my fav's, but I'm really warming up to the closer from Vandy. I love power arms in bullpen spots. I could care less when it comes to starters, but for whatever reason I always like a reliever that can come in and throw gas. Cunnigham is another guy I flat love and the kid committed to SDSU sounds pretty nice too. I also noticed the Sox drafted a few guys with sinking action, a big plus in my book. I really hope they get both Cunn and the SDSU kid signed, especially considering the Sox not having any comp or 2nd round picks... That's what I was hoping for before the draft, too -- the Sox grabbing some guys in the 6th-7th rounds that had signability issues. BTW -- did that Danks (sp?) go? The kid who's committed to, what, Texas? And what about that pitcher Randar liked -- Bleich?
  11. With Teagarden, people were talking Mike Matheny-good defense. I personally think that Matheny is pampered a helluva lot for a guy that barely hits .230, but even getting a catcher like Matheny in the draft has to be viewed as a plus, especially not in round one...
  12. No, he shouldn't be a starter (and I realize you were saying that jokingly), but me and DBaho should feel vindicated, as just a week or so ago we were having to argue that he was better than Kevin Walker...
  13. Tie game in Minnesota. F'ing D'Backs...
  14. Keep throwing that fastball. They can't hit it.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 03:20 AM) Second inning for Neal, is this a bad decision? He can go two innings. I'll first-guess, I like the decision. Have Politte ready incase he gets into trouble, but he dominated that first inning.
  16. We've wasted (for lack of a better word) an inning's worth of outs today. Overall, not a real good job offensively tonight, but the pitching has been there. Two more innings, hopefully Politte and Hermy.
  17. Any sleepers/favorite picks yet? Obviously, we don't know how these kids will do once they hit the minor leagues, but I really like the pick of Getz. Seems like he can handle the bat well at the plate, walk a bunch, and play good defense.
  18. Poor job tonight by our top of the order in Harris and Podsednik. I'll give 'em a break, though, both of them have had some real s***ty calls from the ump...
  19. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 03:09 AM) 1 ER in his last 9 innings now for Neal. Funny. The people who bash him never give him credit when he does well, but they're all over him when he has a bad outing. Funny how that works...
  20. So, we've just given the Rockies two outs this inning...
  21. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) CREDE GO f*** YOURSELF Psst... this isn't the game thread. :banghead
  22. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 02:36 AM) booo, i need someone to go with. It's the Ohio State camp. I'm surprised that my coach even asked me to go. We gotta make it out to some games this summer. I'm buying the Granton package, so I'll be able to get there more often. Gimmie a PM when you head up there -- we gotta have a cornhole rematch.
