  1. Wow... that 2000 (or was it 2K1?) draft class for receivers is having a bad offseason, with Terrell and now K-Rob cut. Was Terrell the concensus pick back then? I know they passed on McAllister (sp?), but was he a realistic pick at #8?
  2. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) Let's say Zimmerman somehow falls to the Sox in the real draft. Do we take him? I think we'd have to seriously consider it. He'd probably rate as the best player still on the board. I'd have to guess the answer is yes. Just from reading about him, it looks like he handles himself very well at the plate, is hard to strike out, has good gap power. Plus, it seems like he's a stud at third base defensively. EDIT: And a quick note -- his high school team? David Wright at third base, BJ Upton at shortstop, with Zimmerman at secondbase (I assume). :droolsmiley.
  3. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 07:49 PM) Wow, that goes far beyond what I thought it did. What were people talking about only 30 million remaining on his contract? If you're going to pay a guy (on average) ten million bucks a year, Chavez is just about the guy who you should give it to. One of the best defensive thirdbasemen in all of baseball, and it looks like he's going to be a fixture every year in that 125-135 OPS+ mark, which is really good.
  4. Sorry guys, I was at the Dave Matthews concert tonight. Anyways, Pittsburg is going to go with another high school kid, taking the five-tool player in Andrew McCutchen. No, not Timo "Mr." McClutch, but Andrew McCutchen.
  5. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) Adjusted numbers mean nothing to me. Just give me the raw data. Chavez is not worth a $30+ million commitment and giving up some of our top talent. If Williams got Chavez for Mac and Crede, it would be his best move ever, hands down.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:05 AM) I'm sure Ozzie will go off on Brantley again. Brantley is a moron. He ripped Ozzie for leaving in Buehrle, when Buehrle was at 90-some-odd pitches and pretty much cruising. Then, he ripped him for not bringing in the "closer". I disagree with the moves Ozzie has made this week, but Brantley is a jagoff, IMO.
  7. Bay of Pigs was under Kennedy. My teacher (who I consider one of the best at our school) basically described it as a bad time for Americans, as the Kennedy administration basically denied their involvement in it, and we basically ended up standing there with s*** on our faces.
  8. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate it...... Is it really that bad, Heads? My teacher who is usually pretty straight up with us told us it's pretty dry and boring, so I believe her. But, I don't think anything is/was as boring as reading Emma (by Jane Austin, right?). Mercy, what a boring book...
  9. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) you highly underestimate the sarcasm of internet nerds then Who are you calling nerds.... nerd.
  10. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:06 AM) Thats good to know, Cowbell is the only thing thats getting me through this game. That's probably the funniest Saturday Night Live skit -- IMO, at least. Seriously. It's even funnier that the Nick guy (the drummer) just totally loses it in the middle of the skit. He can't stop laughing, and he really loses it when BD goes, "Before we're done, we're all gonna be wearing gold-plated diapers." -- and the other guitarist goes, "What does that mean?". Thanks for providing that link, I needed a good laugh for an overall s***ty day (bad poker beats, a couple of drops in the OF during softball, and a bad Sox game).
  11. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:14 AM) *425,000. Anyway, i agree 100% I believe people were telling me it was worth a shot to see what walker could do. Then i said it was not worth wasting 425,000 k on him ''to see what he could do''. If we come up a couple million short we know who to thank. The Ben Davis move was somewhat defendable, but not really defendable. I mean, at that time, we didn't know we were going to get AJ, but I still don't see how he got $1 million bucks. Timo, well.... too easy. And Walker, I didn't mind the initial signing, but I don't see why they needed to call him up, in favor of a guy like Jeff Baj...
  12. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) You look at the Twins and they somehow always find good relief and Gardy always puts them in good situations. How else can Terry Mullholland and Matt Guerrier have jobs and you look at us who haven't had a good pen in years. Minny's bullpen is awesome. Nathan, Crain, Romero, and Rincon are all very, very good.
  13. How much could $2.4 million or so help at the break? Because that's about how much money that this team wasted this offseason on bad contract, IMHO. Seven figures for Timo and Davis each, and then an extra $400K to Kevin Walker to come up and suck.
  14. Can Jeff Baj please, please be given a chance to prove that he's better than Luis Vizcaino, Kevin Walker, and quite possibly Neal Cotts? He's done everything he can do down at Charlotte, give him his f***ing shot.
  15. Well, take Kevin Walker off the list of guys that should be in Neal Cotts' place...
  16. Why am I not so thrilled with Bogusevic? In 2003 and 2004, he posted WHIP's of 1.46 and 1.37, with a K/9 under seven. His ERA, while alright, wasn't spectacular by any means either -- 3.41 and 4.19. This year, he's obviously doing a lot better, but it's still not someone who jumps out at me as a guy I want at #15. Then again, I'm not a genius on the subject of draft prospects, either. I'll be honest -- straight fastball or not, I have my heart set on Wade Townsend somehow falling to #15.
  17. Would you guys mind if I merged this with the "Official Twinkies Suck" thread? Or you guys want it seperate?
  18. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 10:56 PM) Of course this guy must be the be-all-know-all of baseball :rolly Correct Mr-Frank-Thomas-Sucks? :headshake ABoz never said Frank Thomas sucks. Don't put words in people's mouths. And Wedge, great posts on page 17. Some of you are really getting silly with the whole "he was probably on the juice and now that he's off of it he sucks". It's getting stupid, really. It's 200-or-so f***ing at-bats and you guys are labeling him a steroid user? You know what? JD Drew is hitting .251 so far, was he on steroids too? Same with Konerko? Sheesh, give it a f***ing rest already...
  19. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) Perhaps this is Timo's last shot. He has the opprotunity to get quality AB's against a pitcher he should hit. If he can't it done now...He Gawn!!! I don't care if he goes 5-for-5, he still sucks, and should be demoted as soon as Gload is recalled.
  20. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) So you conveniently did not see this years #s? :rolly Holy s***, two months worth of stats? No kidding?
  21. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) Maddux and Glavine have great control. Vazquez and Gagne have great stuff. Cotts has neither great control nor great stuff. You can knock Cotts' control all that you would like, but to say he doesn't have above average stuff is pretty silly when he's struck out almost eight guys per nine innings in his short career...
  22. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) When has Chavez's overpaid ass EVER won anything? Oh, so now we shouldn't trade for Chavez because he isn't a "winner". We need a real winner like Vinny Castilla on this team to take us to the promised land... EDIT: And, I should say, I don't know if I'm quite for or against this trade. I'd have to look at it real closely and for a real long time.
  23. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) I've made this post at least a dozen times, and even shown the stats, HE HAS NEVER HAD AN OPS OF .900 IN A SEASON YET HE GETS PAID LIKE A SLUGGER. Chavez OPS+: 109 94 118 131 122 132 132
