UHL/Pang coming to Chicago
CWSGuy406 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Kapko, I was reading some articles in the Toronto Star saying that they are really, really close. Now, I know we've heard this before, but are you hearing anything remotely close to what I'm seeing in the 'papers? -
I'll take the Bucs, Dan.

Alright, seriously. Who voted Ozuna...

Hmm... In the AL, I've been to Texas (Ballpark in Arlington) -- loved it. I've been to the Humpdome in Minny (meh), US Cellular (duh), Tiger Stadium and Comerica (loved 'em both, though didn't like the neighborhood around Comerica), Cleveland (ehh -- OK) and finally, Tropicana and Skydome (didn't like either of 'em very much). In the NL, I've been to Atlanta (pretty solid), Wrigley, Miller (awesome park -- if I go to Marquette, I'm going to quickly become a Brewer fan), and that's it. I really want to make my way to the Pirates stadium (PNC?), as well as Pac-Bell in San Fran.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 31, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) Garland is a young pitcher. They mature about 26-27. Crede is a 3rd baseman, he is at the point where he is supposed to be a finished product. He is regressing if that is possible. While I don't feel like going back and checking, I doubt you were saying, "Oh, chill out, he's young, he's still going to improve" when Jon was putting up a near-5 ERA last season... Highly doubt it.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 31, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) How long do you think Kenny is going to want to keep Cruddy around with how sucky he is? It's not like Crede is showing any signs of improvement. In fact, he is getting worse. Josh Fields is waiting in the wings (not that he's ready yet) and Crede will just get more and more expensive to keep. He just isn't worth it. The problem is that you guys think Crede has a bright future. The realists see how bad he truly is. Don't take this as a jab at you -- but, did the realists also see how bad Jon Garland truly is, too, for the past four-five years?

Jim when is Gload slated to come back up here? This is such bulls***. Today is my last day of school, and most people have to take a final -- I have to take a survey on how hard my gym class was. Yuck.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ May 31, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) No surprise that it takes until the very last minute to get a Boras client signed. This guy is a scum bag, it's the same game with him every year. These two players got big money but probably no more or even less than they would've gotten 8 months ago. Yep. It looks as if Boras is the one who caved, which is very nice to see.

DBaho, I'm jumping on Fields way, way too early. You know what, I don't expect him to hit .230 the whole year with limited power. But, I'd hate to see someone like Brian Anderson, who's proved that he can hit at every minor league level, traded, while we "wait" for a guy's potential, ala Josh Fields.
-
Well, it looks like Weaver has signed... EDIT: And wow, both kids sign last minute deals. Damn, I was hoping Drew wouldn't sign. f***. (I should have clarified -- not that I wanted the Sox to take Drew, though I wouldn't mind it, but rather to give the Sox more options at #15 in case the Mets grabbed Drew at #9). From Baseball America.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 31, 2005 -> 05:07 AM) They're loving you in Amsterdam right now. Fields' AVG drops to .213, the way he's going, it'll be below .200 soon. Chris Young keeps doing his thing. I know there's been a lotf of Mike Cameron comparisons, but even if he makes it to the majors, he's gonna need a lot of time to adjust, Cameron has only really come out this season and really started smoking with the bat. You know what, if Kenny needs to make a big move at the deadline, I hope that Josh Fields is one of the top chips, as opposed to a guy like Brian Anderson, who's hit everywhere he's been. I'm just sayin', it would be a real shame to see a second OF'er traded at or near the deadline (both guys who produced a helluva lot in the minors, too).
-
Wasn't the deadline for them to sign tonight? In fact, in about seven minutes? Has either of them signed yet? This is the latest I saw from Baseball America... (BTW -- I'm pretty sure that these quotes aren't for 'Registered Users' only, but if it is, can a mod just edit it?) Link.

Like PaleHose said, if you could find out who's pitching, that's be a big help. If Liotta or Gio are pitching at Kanny, I'd definitely suggest that you make your way to Kannapolis. Otherwise, I dunno -- it's close. If it were me, I'd go to Kanny either way, just 'cause I want to see how good Francisco Hernandez is -- a guy that Phil Rogers (bad specific example by me) thinks very highly of, as well as many people around here.

I'd love an all ALCentral ALCS. That'd be great...
-
I would surely take an Adam Dunn-lite type player out of Young...

Is there a reason that Ozzie gets an extension after a year and a half? Generally, I've liked what he's done with the bullpen so far this year, playing the matchups rather than a set "closer". But, we didn't make the playoffs last year, and, it's barely two months into the season. I'd like to see a playoff appearance before we extend a guy through 2008.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 31, 2005 -> 12:13 AM) Did you see the train-wreck known as Cruddy at the plate today? He was awful. We need a replacement and soon. By the way, Timo was pretty clutch today wasn't he? Yeah, he was pretty bad. That said, I didn't like him bunting in either of those situations. Either, get Pablo in there, or let Crede swing away. Yes, Timo had a big hit. He still sucks.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 30, 2005 -> 05:46 PM) Yes, Timo's "clutchness" with RISP was more beneficial to last year's team than Cotts' 5.65 ERA was. Just because Timo's "clutchness" of last year didn't carry over to this season doesn't mean that he wasn't more valuable to last year's team than Cotts was. I don't know how you could possibly deny that. Yes, I would give up Sean Tracey for Vinny Castilla. I don't know about you but I want the Sox to make the playoffs THIS season. I could give a crap about prospects right now. Cruddy isn't going to help this team go anywhere with his constant pop ups. Well, I wouldn't trade Tracey for Castilla, and I think few people here would do that either. Cotts wasn't very good last year, and he's not that good of a reliever. We don't have many other options though. Baj, maybe. Diaz, maybe. Fields, maybe. McCarthy, definitely, but I think people want him starting.
-
I just got back from the game. Was I the only one wondering why Iguchi was pinch-hit for in the ninth? I mean, 2nd and 3rd, don't you want a good contact hitter up there? Then maybe Everett pinch hit for Timo if Gooch can't get the job done? Nice job, Timo. You get a one-week repreive. Hopefully, that will be the last time I see you in a Sox uni until the September call-ups.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 30, 2005 -> 05:47 AM) Please. If you don't know remember how clutch Timo was with RISP as a pinch-hitter off the bench, you obviously weren't watching many Sox games last season. :rolly Your boy Cotts had a nice 5.65 ERA last season. :puke Timo sucks really bad this season but he was much more important to last year's team than Cotts was. I don't think even you could argue that. But considering the fact that you think Vinny Castilla is only "a little bit better offensively" than Joe Crede, I'm sure you could try to argue anything. Oh, so he sucked in every other situation, but as long as he was clutch, right? And, I'm glad that "clutchness" carried over to this year, huh? I'm willing to bet that Crede ends up with an OPS+ within ten points of Castilla's. And, you still haven't answered whether or not you'd be willing to give up a guy like Sean Tracey (maybe you don't know who he is?) for Castilla -- which, I assume would be the starting price...
-
Can anyone comment, as far as using OPS to judge a prospect? I like that Young's OPS is over .800, in a pitchers park, and he's walking -- but he's still striking out a whole lot. Should that worry me?
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 30, 2005 -> 02:02 AM) Timo was good last season. Cotts was not. At least get your facts straight before you call someone out. Oh, stupid me. I forgot that a .286 OBP was considered good.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 29, 2005 -> 10:02 PM) Oh, and that wild pitch by Cotts was rather Ankiel-esque. I'm glad that the Cotts supporters are finally in hiding now. :headshake I'm still here. What happened to you supporting Timo Perez? I mean, I could go back and check all of the WSI posts because you weren't here last year, I don't think. Oh, wait...

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 29, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) The current strike zone in the mlb sucks ass. I can't say that I like this guy's strike-zone, but at least he's consistent with it. He's giving Jon the same pitches that he's giving Park.
