QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) I cannot believe that we look like this against Kim. Seriously, what the f***? I still can't believe he called a foul ball on that pitch to Harris...
-
I think I might have basketball...

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) Does anybody that is ripping this pick know anything about the guy at all? Or, are the Sox cheap and stupid because they didn't pick the guy you wanted them to pick? Yas, I find it funny that people are b****ing at 'em for not taking Carrillo, and then calling Carrillo a 'stuff' guy, when Broadway had more K's than Cesar. You want to argue the pick, that's fine, but be reasonable about it...

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) I meant in the Sox system. Eek -- I dunno -- I'd assume Great Falls? Anyone? Anyone? Buehler? Buehler?
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) Anybody knows where Getz would start? 2B or SS. Baseball America thinks he'll move to SS. And Round 5 has started.

Sorry, had to toot my own horn a bit there...

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) Hansen is a top 5 pick if not for his agent.... think of recent stud closers that fly through the minors... huston street, Chad Cordero....... We had one pick in the top 90 -- we needed a hit on that one, and Broadway has the chance to be that. Real good K numbers, low BB numbers -- I like that a lot. Hansen, I wouldn't have complained about, but he's not going to help your team out as much as a guy like Broadway could . And, even if Hansen makes the big leagues within a year, I think we've got a ton of relievers in the system (albeit, not as good stuff, but still have performed well in the minors) who would be ahead of Hansen.

I like that pick -- a lot. Good call, Cerb!

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) Only reason he didn't go higher is because scouts rarely make trips up to Iowa and the one time they saw him his velocity wasn't quite there (he wasn't fully in gear yet). Plus, it seems that there shouldn't be too much stress on his arm if all he's been throwing (mainly) is a fastball and a changeup. If Tampa could slowly work in a curveball/slider, they might have found themselves a real gem here.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) There goes my boy. Nice pick Tampa. I like that pick. BA says he's already got a real good feel for a fastball and changeup, and a developing curve. Good to see he learned the change before the curve.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) I'm extremely dissapointed with this pick. Especially when Carillo, Bogusevic, and Hansen still on the board. So they draft a guy based on him having been lights out for a whole 3 starts? So, they should have picked a guy (Hansen) who, even at his best, will give ya 75 IP? Yep, that's it.
-
QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) He's listed at only 5'11". I WANT BLEICH! Hmm -- looks like he wants first round $$$ to get him out of going to Stanford. They say he's got a real nasty breaking ball, though -- I'd love to see the Sox make a grab at a first-round talent in the fifth round. I doubt we'll see it, but I'll hope so.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) Not happy at all. We should of picked Carillo. Good control, better stuff. Broadway jumped up due to his last three starts, not the entire body of work. We have enough of these "great control guys with a good curve" in our organization that cant hit 90 on a daily basis. We need a stuff guy to mix in. We have BMAC/Diaz/Honel are all control guys with good breaking stuff. I would rather have a guy to break up the mix who has the control and the velocity and my god a sinking pitch. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/bas...-carrillo_x.htm Better stuff, yet less than 7 K's/9 in 2003 and 2004? Sheesh, let the kid fail before ya jump all over him. BTW -- No friggin' way that Carrillo is a stuff guy. No way.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) Not saying they are amazing, but he had sick numbers out of high school. Lets give him a chance at the very least. I wish I could find my stuff from the 03 draft but I can't. My bad -- I hope I didn't come off as saying that you thought the numbers were dynomite, I was just making a general comment that they aren't very good.
-
Those numbers aren't very impressive, Jason... Whatever, they've done a good enough job to earn my trust, I don't like the pick, but we'll see... Anyways, unless I'm not seeing something, that Kenny Maiques is still on the board, and he rates as one of the best JuCo pitchers in America. I'd like to see the Sox grab him, strictly from a numbers standpoint. 133 K's in 82 IP, and just 16 BB's.
-
QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:12 PM) Maybe, just doesn't make any sense to me. Lasorda: "The only team in LA selects..." LMFAO! I was laughing at that, and, "....hey, that's where I lived."
-
My brother just read his statline to me -- 77 IP, 70 K's, 20 BB's, 8 HR's. Doesn't sound real appealing...
-
Thoughts on Brooks...? I'm not seeing him in the BA Top 200...
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 06:59 PM) There's nothing to get upset about. Sounds like a Donny Lucy type, good defense, questionable (projecting) bat. BTW -- f*** not taking Suzuki last year.
-
Chris Robinson off the board to Detroit.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) Repd by Boras...Sox aren't gonna take him. Oh, Teagarden? Damn, so that's why he's falling.
-
I'm praying Teagarden falls to #95, but I'm not expecting it. That JuCo pitcher, Maiques, interests me.
-
I'm gonna throw a name out there -- what about Kenny Maiques, a JuCo pitcher from Cali? Ack -- did he get taken? I'm losing track...
-
Hey, when round two ends, can someone give maybe a top five list of "best available"?

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) I never liked Donald Veal. I let out a "damnit" when I heard Veal go to the Cubs. Luckily my dad is in the basement.
