I have another question to the backers of this trade: What if we don't get the starter we eyed on the FA market? I'm assuming the two guys we're looking at right now are Perez and Clement -- well, if we only have six million to spend, what if we're not able to land either of them? Where do we go from there? You cannot tell me that this team is better suited with Pods + Vizcaino rather than having Lee. Yuck... Yuck... Yuck... :puke

IMHO, I gotta believe that they, at the very least, could have gotten Jerry Hairston and Jorge Julio from Baltimore, and that could have been the salary dump. Maybe there's more to this than meets the eye. Maybe they trade Konerko, too, and add a power bat via free agency, along with signing a FA starting pitcher. Who the f*** knows... But as of right now -- this trade -- looking at it right now, it's a salary dump. And a stupid one at that. You've got to be kidding me that the best you could get for Carlos F'n Lee is an up-and-down leadoff man and a quality reliever. That PTBN better be a pretty damn good player, not just some scrap from the bottom of the barrell. Looking at this trade now... I hate it. You know the saying, "You don't know how much you really miss something until it's gone"? Well, I think that's the way it's gonna be with Lee. I really believe he is very, very close to becoming a superstar, which would have been a bargain under ten million for the next two seasons. Boy, was it fun watching Carlos grow up from the player who couldn't play a lick in LF to becoming our best, most well rounded player on the team. I'm definitely gonna miss him...

So, in essence -- it's a salary dump. I'm sorry, but you don't do a salary dump on your best overall player. I definitely could have saw them doing this with Konerko -- at least it's a little more understandable with Konerko, as he is pretty much a "US Cellular Field" player -- meaning, he sucks on the road. But come on. You're telling me that all you could get for a player who year in, year out hits .300/30/100, with an above average OPS, is a questionable leadoff hitter and a reliever? Christ...

Jason, I never really thought about it like that. We're really going to have one of the best pitching staffs (overall, bullpen and rotation) in the league. If we get Ginter, it makes me think that this deal is good, too, because it gives us another (somewhat) power guy in the lineup.
-
I agree, Flash. In fact, if Pods doesn't put up at least (and I'm being nice here) a .340 OBP, the stolen bases really won't mean a damn thing. He needs to take more walks, have a better average, whatever... For anyone who knows, does he K a lot?
-
I agree with everything you said. Give me Odalis, and call it an offseason. The key to the deal, though, is that we get Ginter. Because, if we get Ginter, he should be able to give us at least 20 HRs, especially playing at US Cellular.
-
IMHO, the deal hinges on how good the PTBNL is. If it's, in fact, Ginter, I'll be pretty happy. Ginter absolutely crushes left-handers, and if you platoon him at Harris at secondbase, you have a very good platoon there. One that should give you a .380 OBP, or right around there. It's all about the PTBNL, because as of right now, I'm not very happy at all with this deal...
-
Jim, it's officially on Rotoworld -- PTBNL, Scotty Pods, and Vizcaino. No Ginter...
-
Guys, Ginter not being in this deal makes this deal absolutely s***ty, IMHO. Damn damn, damnit... Bye bye Carlos...
-
Well, it's official. f***. No Ginter. You've got to be f***ing s***ting me, Vizcaino and f***ing Podsednik? UGHHHHHH!
-
Why the hell isn't this even on rotoworld yet? Or, mlb.com? Or espn.com? I know it hasn't been announced yet, but wouldn't they have just the rumors somewhere other than radio sources? Steff -- is this all true, from what you're hearing?
-
If it's Ginter, Vizcaino, AND Pods, I'll sleep a little better tonight. Platoon Ginter at second with Harris, and 2B has instantly become a strength for this team. I dunno qwerty, I think Pod will hit a little better at the Cell. Plus, a single is almost always a double with him, which is a good thing. I've also said that to get to the playoffs, one must have an extrememly good bullpen -- and this move makes our bullpen very, if not extrememly good, IMHO. Overall though, I'm excited that a move was made, but I'm not very happy about the move itself...
-
If Podsednik can prove to be a good leadoff hitter (minimum .340 OBP, as well as his 70+ steals, while rarely getting caught), then I like the deal. I'm just questioning whether or not he can do that. I like Vizcaino, that's for sure. Like Flash said, he makes our bullpen very, very good. Kenny isn't done. That's a fact, too.
-
Levine says this trade makes us better defensively. Not at the cost of the difference in OPS, AVG, power, RBI's... f***, those two names better be damn good. Ginter is nice, but I want a damn good player -- Pods best not be the centerpiece of this deal.
-
Unfortunately, for one season, Podsednik (sp?) was a good leadoff hitter -- that's it, just one year. Other than that, he's mediocre. So he steals some bases. It isn't worth it if he only gets on base at a .320 clip...
-
Ugh, Ugh, ugh... f***ing... Damnit.
-
Best of luck, Danny! I'm definitely dissappointed that we couldn't convert Danny to the bullpen earlier, he had some electric stuff when he first came up with the team. Unfortunately, I bet that took a toll on his arm. I hope he catches on somewhere else, though.

Gold Glove winners rarely have anything to do with how good your range factor or zone rating is. It's all about those 'web gems'...
-
Well, I'll be damned -- he complied with what you asked! I'm shocked... Well, at least the part about the "another dumb post"...
-
Jason, you've said it, and I'll repeat it -- if we trade Carlos Lee, we better damn well get a king's ransom for him. I'm talking, a return that brings us two everyday MLB players (be it another above average starting pitcher and a position player, a dominant reliever, whatever), as well as a pretty solid prospect. Lee is on the verge of being a stud in the majors, Kenny better get all he can for Lee and then some if he trades him...
-
Good point. Even on rotoworld, the latest deal they have on the whole thing is Hudson's comment on how no one has even talked to him about the deal yet, other than hearing some reports. Kind of odd that the player hasn't even been talked to by either team yet, huh ?
-
On Fox's Final Word, McPherrin and Waddle will have on Kenny Williams live (or maybe taped earlier, I don't know) from the Winter Meetings. They'll probably just talk about the moves they've already made, what they're still looking to do, just wanted to let you guys know. EDIT: Stupid me. It'll be on at 10:00 Central, probably 10:05ish, they'll most likely do the Bears highlights first, talk with Peanut...

I knew I saw it somewhere...

IIRC, the non-tender date is also coming up (December 20th???), and I'm interested if anyone has a list or something that shows the players who have the chance, this week, to be tendered a contract or non-tendered...? And, as a follow-up to that question, which ones might the White Sox have interest in? I know Kenny has said that FA signings are pretty much done, but I've got to believe that if Kenny sees something he likes (I'm talking four million or less), that he'll jump on it. Some names that we've already discussed here are Schoenewies (If that selfish attitude is gone, I'd definitely like him. He was the best starter at the beginning of the season, and he'd be a nice fifth starter fill-in/reliever type of a guy), Alex Cora, AJ Piersinski (spelled incorrectly there), and Wade Miller (definitely a guy I'd like to see the Sox jump on if he's non-tendered). I think all of those above guys would be nice pickups, but under the radar, are there any other guys who this team could use?
-
Jason, do you get the press conference from where you live? Hear anything yet? Some people are speculating it could be another FA signing, Lowe and Clement are names that I'm hearing, along with Huddy... EDIT: Ouch, on the Dodger board, they're saying that there was no press conference. A let-up for a lot of people on that board... Imagine if reports had us landing Hudson, how restless we'd be. I tell ya, I wouldn't leave my computer till I found out if he was a Sock or not...
