What reliever did you want signed? Note that, as a reliever, Hermanson was able to put up solid numbers. And, so what if this move wasn't 'expected'. Who gives a damn...
-
Jim Mecir is a FA -- no arbitration offered by the Athletics, too. What do you guys think? If we can get him for about a million, would ya sign him? From Rotoworld:
-
Maybe you don't realize this, but cheap isn't always a bad thing. If you can get a player like Cairo for under two million, I don't see the problem with it. Would you be happier if we offered Cairo ten million per season, just so JR can say that he opened up the wallet? Would that make you happy?
-
FWIW, here are Cairo's numbers vs. LHP's this past season (damn good numbers, might I add) -- .336 AVG, .377 OBP, .822 OPS. If he'd be willing to platoon with Harris, I'd definitely welcome the move. He and Harris would be a damn good two-headed monster at second base, one that could be our leadoff hitter, too.
-
A free agent? So, as long as JR pays big bucks for 'someone' -- anyone -- that's what you want? I'd rather Kenny look for a bargain, such as (if rumored correctly) Jaret Wright at four million or so -- more money to work with is a good thing, you know. As for Maggs, I don't see what's the big deal. Why the hell should we pay him if Boras isn't even letting us check out his knee? He's had a very nice career here, oh well, time to let it go. He isn't worth 14 million, even when he was 100% healthy...

I agree. Hell, I'd be content with signing Wright, trading Konerko for a stud RP/2B (to Baltimore for Julio, Hairston, and a prospect would be awesome), and then signing Dye. Platoon Harris and Hairston at second base, stick Dye out in right, and you have a pretty solid team, with the platoon of Harris/Hairston being your leadoff hitter (which should produce a combined .260-.280 AVG, .360-.380 OBP). Nothing that jumps out at you, but overall, pretty solid...

You can't go wrong, with Jared Wright... Alright, so it was a cheesy joke...
-
See, you were having a nice little baseball discussion with witesoxfan (one that I was actually enjoying, you stating your case, wite stating his), and then you have to throw this little pompous, prideful remark in there... Really, really ignorant.

As a Northwestern fan, the Wildcats killed themselves with their s***ty play early on in the season. Sure, Ohio State and Purdue were very nice wins, but when you lose to teams you should beat (beginning of the season, non conference games), you don't deserve a bowl...

How did we lose Osuna in the first place? And, how did we aquire him the first time? The only thing I remember about Osuna was he was with us one year, had a pretty damn good season, and that was it. Why was he here only one year?
-
My sentiments exactly. I'm not exactly thrilled at giving Renteria ten million per year, on the factor of consistency alone. Like Qwerty said, if he's able to give us his 2003 year for a couple years, than he's definitely worth that ten million. But you won't hear me complaining if he's our SS. I'd prefer closer to eight million per year, but ten million isn't overpaying that much. And SS2k, while Wright and Renteria would be very nice, we need to -- NEED to address the bullpen situation. We need to pick up at least one more arm who we can be confident with towards the end of a game.
-
Four million per year would be an absolute steal, IMHO. Three years, twelve million, sign me up. Like CS05 said, durability with him scares me, but at four million per year, for a guy who has stuff that can dominate, wow...
-
That's the key right there -- he can't force anything. He needs to realize that he has a pretty solid defense behind him, and that having to punt the ball is OK...
-
Shh... Let's not judge a game on one drive, still a lot of game to go. This is the best offense in the NFC we're facing, let's not get all hyped after one drive... Though I must say, Hutch did look good there. If we can get any offense out of him whatsoever, we'll be in good shape with a healthy defense the rest of the season.
-
Well if that wasn't obvious... Just kind of odd that it comes out at a time like this, where it seems a lot of others have confessed (or, at least now it's coming out that they confessed). Unfortunately, I think this is only the beginning of things. I think there are going to be some names that come out, that you'd never suspect in taking the 'roids...
-
I'll say the Vikings pull it out in a close game, yet the ineptitude of the Bears offense bites 'em in the ass yet again... Vikings - 20 Bears - 13 (All I want for Christmas is five Bear wins in a row...)
-
Some old news, but more confirmation that an offer is on the table for Jaret Wright, from at least us and the Mariners...
-
I may not agree with Jeckle all the time, but he's as passionate of a Sox fan as they come. You, on the other hand, seem to be happy pissing people off. You've accomplished that, so you can be happy...
-
Qwerty, I think we all know the answer to that...
-
Unfortunately, I was talking about you, not qwerty. Mah bad, Qwerts.
-
Your lack of comprehension is actually starting to amaze me. I can't believe how dumb you are sometimes (being nice there), honestly...
-
Santo, I agree with everything you've said. BUT: Bottom line -- no playoff appearances. I don't care if there have been injuries. I don't want to hear excuses. I want results. I won't call Kenny a terrible GM -- but until he reaches the playoffs, no one can really call him a great GM either...

BTW - has anyone here seen Frasor from Brother Rice? He's supposed to be a fantastic shooter, with awesome work ethic. I plan on going to see a Rice game this year, if I can even get in the gym... -

Our fan section is known as the 'Black Hole', kind of cheesy, but pretty cool. At my school, we have an odd situation. For whatever reason, the people come, but rather than cheer for us, a lot come to watch us lose (even though, for the first time in a long time, our team is very solid). So, while I can't say that they cheer against us, they don't exactly cheer for us. It's kind of a football team vs. basketball team thing. The football guys are all cocky because they usually have a solid record (and then get their asses handed to 'em in the playoffs, like last year vs. Providence, this year vs. Richards). This year, our team should win, at the very least, 15 games. -
LOL -- I'm sure Brian would be thrilled with walking around with a nametag that says, "Hi, I'm Brian from Soxtalk!". I hope I get a little drinky at the hotel, but I doubt it. Bastards probably have the place rigged with cameras...
