Not sure if Iguchi is holdin the contract talks maybe cause imo, if he goes back to Japan, the sox would just give AJ the money left over (6-7 mil) and he'll see him soon. Maybe try and save alittle left but I hardly doubt Iguchi will recieve Kaz-type money anywhere else. If this happens, I think the sox might give a bench spot to a guy like Valdez (or maybe sign a cheap utility player) to fill that void. Just my two cents.

QUOTE(quickman @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) here is what I can find. You have an issue with Perez. Good for you. Some people like him some don't.The next thing I can find, is that, in no way has any whitesox authority said we cannot sign AJ because we paid Timo or because we are out of money. The third thing is, we seem to be the only team that has offered him a contract. Has anyone else even stepped up to make an offer? The fourth thing is San fran dropped his ass, if he was so great, he would have stayed with them for 3 million. the next thing is, although i am speculating, I do not think the sox will let someone they want go for 500k. Maybe a million, maybe an extra year but not 500k. If his caliber was so great, he would have been scooped up by now. That said, I want him, but not at an inflated price. Let the Sox do there job. I am sure something will happen soon.

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) Otsuka? If he was in Suzuki or Matsui's caliber I'd be psyched to get him, but he's not so I'm not. Otsuka is a relief pitcher and a damn good one. Nasty stuff. I'd be psyched to get him in anyway.

QUOTE(Mr. Zero @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) I think right now is time for that famous quote... Let's agree to disagree. The topic of Timo Perez has seen the battlefield too many a time. It's time we lay it to rest and the let the season bring upon us what Timo Perez does next year. I agree. This will be my last post in this thread about Timo. Let's just see him be solid (or mediocre) for us so we can crown our sox the 2005 champs now shall we. R&w can have his little last word in I really don't care anymore.

:rolly Like I kept saying good bat to have off the bench. Which means to fill in a role for a tired player, or to give a starter the day off. Hell, some of those pinch hit at bats might be cause he moves the runner along or even if he makes outs, I'm sure some (if not most) are from the bases empty and i don't go by his previous seasons. If thats the case then Uribe should be mediocre and Loaiza shouldn't even had landed here.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) what is this clutch you speak of? should Timo Perez be more valuable to this team than Paul Konerko because he had a better batting average with runners in scoring position? Give me a break. Timo Perez is a reserve outfielder and a pinch hitter. When your OPS is in the low .400's as a pinch hitter you are not doing your job and therefore don't deserve a raise nor one million dollars when a guy like Dustan Mohr can be had for half the cost thus allowing for more flexibility to sign Pierzynski. God do you read post at all? Geez, I said nothing about him being valuable from batting average And I'm sure why I even bother responding to a hard headed poster like yourself. I already stated Timo is a great bat to have off the bench. I agree that 1 million dollars for him is awful, but you can't say Mohr (even though I like Mohr) would post a better average or be better in RISP. Who knows if he can have a down year. I'm not that big of a fan of Timos but I like him cause he's unique (in his own way of style of cathing the ball) he's clutch and hardly K's. I'll say it again, Timo is a good bat to have off the bench but he was overpriced. I'll say it again, Timo is a good bat to have off the bench but he was overpriced. Should I say it again?

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) Danny Bautista, Dee Brown, Tom Goodwin, Brian Jordan, Dustan Mohr, etc. would have all signed for half the cost of Timo Perez. Just a thought. Has any of them posted a .400 RISP off the bench, or hit in the clutch? Mohr is probably the only guy that I like on that list and even he isn't that great (then again.. neigher is Timo.) But like santo said Timo won't have to play a big role like he did last season (barring injuries) Timo is a nice bat to have off the bench to pinch hit with runners on. I'll take him over most of the other sox players in that situation.

3 lefty bats, (assuming there's a new 2nd baseman) 1 right handed stick and a switch hitter isn't that bad at all to have. It also depends if were signing a platoon like player or a fulltime guy. But thats just me.

QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) NOTES --INF Juan Uribe, who signed a three-year, $9.75 million contract three weeks ago, is rumored to have put on a lot of extra weight this offseason, and not good weight. Manager Ozzie Guillen said at the end of last season that his players had all better come into spring training in shape and ready to play or they won't be playing for him. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 12:56 PM) If Kenny brings in both Iguchi and AJP, I will sing his praises until 2006. OMG, OMG, OMG...the thought of aquiring those two is just...um....sexy. 2005 Opening-Day Darkhose Lineup LF-Podsednik 2B-Iguchi 1B-Konerko RF-Dye DH-Jurassic CF-Rowand C-AJP 3B-Crede SS-Uribe I'm giddy. Flip Carl and Dye, also Uribe and Crede and I really like that line-up to start the 2005 season.

podsednik: Leadoff man, #9 hitter or benchwarmer ?
SoxAce replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We have about 4 (maybe 5) guys in our line-up that can steal 20+ bases (2 or 3 could steal 40+) at will. If they can get in scoring position that many times, I think the sox will be a fun team to watch in the 2005 season. -
Ace's very first thread and post. When soxtalk was a f***ing good site.
