  1. QUOTE(bulokis @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) McCarthy seems to be having problem adjusting from starting to the bullpen. If we had better options, I would say send BMAC to AAA and start there. I'm not too worried about BMAC. He struggled with some mechanics last year too, but when he got locked in, it was lights out - if he struggles for a bit, I feel he will, at some point, turn it around big time.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) McCarthy just give up 3 runs? Whoever is playing short for the Sox, threw the ball away for 1 run.
  3. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 06:09 PM) Yeah, any updates? We face Greg Maddux tomorrow. I don't know who is pitching fror the Sox now. I think Thornton gave up 1 hit and 1 walk in 2 innings. 1 other runner reached on an error, which he pitched around. The Royals have scored twice in the 8th, but the Royal announcers are talking to somebody about the condition of some players and they are not really following the game too closely
  4. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) Yep. He's pitching again, and back to form, letting the leadoff man double. Uribe just got a pretty good out on the runner going to third. And made a nice pick. Two outs. In Thornton's first inning of throwing today, he nearly gave up a homer but it barely missed to Left. Everytime he pitches I'm going to be on pins and needles. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) The problem with Thornton is that it doesn't really matter how good or bad he looks in one inning. He can pitch lights-out one inning and get completely shellacked in the next. He has no consistency. The Royals announcers made it sound like the double ended up that way because Mackowiak dove and did not come up with it. And the 'almost' homer didn't reach the warning track.
  5. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 05:37 PM) The problem with Thornton is that it doesn't really matter how good or bad he looks in one inning. He can pitch lights-out one inning and get completely shellacked in the next. He has no consistency. Same problem that Contreras had ........... 'till Coop got a hold of him.
  6. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) Thornton looked really good that inning. I think he only threw 1 ball. heh heh
  7. Thornton on the hill - let's see of some Coop magic is starting to take effect.
  8. Thome easily scores on an AJ bouncer up the middle. AJ on 1st, 1 out - 6-4 Good Guys.
  9. Basehit for Thome on grounder to right. 1st and 3rd, nobody out. Now Gooch scores on an errant pickoff attempt at 3rd by the catcher - Thome to 2nd.
  10. Redding has been going for a couple of innings, I think. Thome just swung at the 3rd pitch he has seen and missed it. Runner on, nobody out.
  11. QUOTE(BFirebird @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) Hopefully we don't give up 17 runs today. QUOTE(Timoperezrulez @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) Nomo is starting not Garland How does > 17 sound?
  12. QUOTE(bulokis @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 06:34 PM) If Thornton makes the 25-man roster, our bullpen is toast. Thornton's role for now should be in AAA. Give Coop at least one shot at tweaking his delivery.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) Theres the real value question. If Thornton pitched to Borchard, would he strike out or walk? Or get hit by the pitch? Seriously though. I don't see any downside on this deal. Borch was never going to make much of a contribution with the Sox. Anderson has moved in and Sweeney is next. Out of options and for this we get a LEFTHANDER that throws over 95. For what Cooper has shown us in the last few years - it's worth the risk. Borch was not worth a proven reliever. This looks like a nice project. I am sure they looked at tape of the guy and Coop has offered some thoughts as to what he needs to be in the zone. All Cotts needed was to keep his eyes on the glove longer. Sometimes small adjustments are all that is needed.
  14. QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) if logan had a sex change... actually i'm not really sure where i'm going with this... Neither am I, but I am about to crash and now I fully expect nightmares.
  15. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 12:44 PM) Yesterday was my first chance to see Boone pitch. Three things I noticed while watching him. First, we works quickly. He just gets the ball and throws it. Next, His delivery and arm angle appear to make the ball very difficult to pick up coming out of his hand. Finally, he throws strikes. All in all, I was impressed with what I saw. My sentiments exactly. Hitters react in a similar fashion to Cotts. If he is used in a true loogy fashion and is thereby protected by just facing a lefthander here and there, big leads not-withstanding, he could go a long way to being a true contributer this year. I saw him hit 91 mph on one fastball. Hitters react like he is throwing 95.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) I also remember the Sox calling up an A ball pitcher during the season who turned out to be a pretty decent pitcher upon arrival. Scott Radinski. As I stated on another thread, don't forget Terry Forster and Goose Gossage - they were 19 and 21 when they came up the same year - they had something like a combined total of 35 games at the 'A' level. I have yet to hear what this kid is throwing - has he put on 20 lbs. and is he throwing hard? - no idea
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) If Boone Logan throws 40 innings for the Sox this year, were f***ed. Probably - but it makes me remember the year we showcased Terry Forster and Goose Gossage. They were both as young as hell and they frightened all comers with their stuff. I'm not saying this is a similar situation here. Again, I've got no idea how he is getting people out. Forster and Gossage were around 20 and 21 when they hit the show, if my failing memory serves me well.
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) He hasnt pitched above A ball. I dont think his time is here quite yet. I think he was drafted in the 20th round the same year Brandon was drafted in the 17th. He was listed as 180 lbs. on draft day - now he is listed as 200 lbs. - maybe his filling out has coincided with an increase in velocity. I'm just thinking off the top of my head here. I have no idea what he is throwing. But he is getting people out somehow. What a great story it would be if he was able to make a contribution to the team before the year is out. Of course a better scenario would be that we have no need for him this year.
  19. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) Box also shows Boone Logan went 2 IP giving up only a hit and a walk. We need to give him some more innings. Here is the full box Box This guy has got to be opening some eyes - what pitches does he feature? If Hermy can't help, the door has to be open for the improbable - a young unknown stepping up.
  20. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) According to the box score, Heath Phillips took the loss. Even better, if true - I think Liotta has a greater upside. The Oakland announcers made no mention of Phillips.
  21. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 13 @ 2006 -> 04:56 PM) True, but it would also be nice to see these young guys get other young guys out. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) Sure it would. But I'm not worried about it when it doesn't. Also, by the sounds of it, Liotta's best pitch is his curve - which can't be helped by Phoenix atmosphere.
  22. Game - 9-8 A's with a one out 2 run bouncer up the middle.
  23. One out - 2nd and 3rd with the sacrifice.
  24. QUOTE(hi8is @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 06:49 PM) then balks then walks
