Hearing his friends, colleagues, and "competitors" talk about this guy, i dont think I really appreciated him as much as I should have. I'm kinda new to the whole "tracking politics" thing. This guys was a giant. Heck even FOX News was praising him. That shows you the respect he had.

QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) One of my best friends is from Cedar Rapids. His parents house is fine, because its on a hilltop. But his brother's house got massive flooding. He compared it to New Orleans and a complete disaster. My wife just got off the phone with her mom. Few things of note... For those of you who know about the Sutliff Bridge... it's gone. washed away My wife's family is basically "stuck" at home east of Iowa City. They cant go north (380 is shut down). Cant go East (80 is shut down). To go south, they need to go all the way to Des Moines. To get to Chicago (like they had planned for this weekend) they would have had to go west to Des Moines, south into Missouri, then back east and up north to Chicago.

Flip-Flopping is OK if you are willing to explain the reasons WHY you flipped. Simply changing your stance for no reason and not explaining is a flip flop. It is also often precieved as political pandering if you dont explain WHY you flipped. "Half-assed" reasons also dont apply. (see John McCains flip on the tax cuts. He says it has help the economy.) I have alwasy said I am willing to change my opinion if there is a good enough reason to say so.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) There's a reason you won't hear that from the mainstream media. It would be a pretty silly thing for them to report. To say, for instance, that he's leading in MI because of a single poll that gave him a 3 point edge there would be somewhat presumptuous Obama has a narrow national lead in most polls--that is something worth reporting. I like RCP maps a bit better, since they average polls: (not counting toss-up states) http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/ma...bama_vs_mccain/ (counting toss-ups) http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/ma..._mccain/?map=10 dude, thanks for the link. i didnt even KNOW they had maps on RCP. SWEET!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 08:26 AM) And here's another perfect example. He might blow Kerry away in the flip-flop contest with all the years of sound bites they have on him. http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/6/1.../415/541/535436 Obama ripped into McCain earlier in the day... "You know, John McCain has proposed a series of debates, and I’m looking forward to having them. But when it comes to Social Security, he might want to finish the debate with himself first."

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 11:03 AM) I'd say that the extremely rapid expansion of the tech sector counts as "other factors," and that turned out to be a big, huge bubble. The TECH bubble had a lot to do with the growth of the economy when Clinton was president (and did nothing to help regulate it) and then the deflation when Bush stepped in and the bubble burst (not bush's fault). I watched a quasi-documentary on the bubble not too long ago. It was very fascinating.

This guy has no clue what he's said in the past. He doesnt knwo how to use a computer, so he's probably never heard of YouTube. To date, the media has REALLY drooped the ball on coving just how many times he has changed his tune.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) Like I said a few pages back...McCain is really going to wind up in a bit of trouble because of the media's constant adoration of him...he's constantly, over and over again, been booked on shows over and over again...and within the last few years has had a chance to answer questions on every issue probably a dozen times, over and over again, to the point where you can stick just about every clip together and wind up with things that contradict. Over and over again. The ironic part is that one event in Obama's candidacy HAD prior quotes form him, but they were largely ignored. Remember Bitter-gate? He said on Charlie Rose several years ago the SAME thing (i think minus the bitter part), but he phrased it far better back then. Yet, few seemed to notice.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) your posts seem to be 100% pro-Democrat, you don't really seem to be much of an independent. Pro-Life Anti-Gay Marriage / "Civil Liberties" Moral Conservtive Pro-Universal Health Care Get out of Iraq Pro-"little guy" Frankly the Bush/Rove republican party has royally pissed me off. Until things change, I find it hard to support them.

The financial toll will be monstrous. soo.... is this good or bad for me that I am considering moving to the IC area next summer? lol

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
HuskyCaucasian replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
This seems like as good a thread as any for this... PBS to go gavel-to-gavel on conventions As this summer's national political conventions take place (Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO; August 25 to 28; Republican National Convention in St. Paul, MN; September 1 to 4), The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer will produce 24+ hours of live, prime time coverage to be broadcast in high-definition nationwide on PBS. These eight nights of convention coverage will be the only complete broadcast coverage made available by a U.S. broadcast television network.
