Josh Podsednik?!
It's to make all the chicks (and Heads22) happy who own Pods jerseys.
They get to keep their "pretty boy" jersey.

That looks totally photoshopped. Yes, we know he's a Sox fan, but still, that doesn't look right.
That's a real pic.

I'd venture to guess you could say that about 50% or more of everyone in the majors.
At least one looong trip on the DL.
Corey Patterson's comparable to Uribe in offense.
That's not saying much, but the Sox have gotten by with Uribe starting nearly everyday since at least 2004 and survived.
Patterson is at least a better OF replacement than Ozuna/Erstad/Mackowiak/Gonzalez has been.
Certainly he's the best "free" agent available.
What's wrong with trying to catch lightning in a bottle with a 28 year old as opposed to the usual 34 year old re-tread?
Certainly his .276 average 16hr 53rbi 45sb from 2006 is worth looking at.
Even his 2007 .269 average 8hr 45rbi 37sb isn't bad.
Dye may be a 1b before long if Konerko is moved; and, Quentin/Patterson/Swisher is a solid OF. Owens will never be a full time starter anyway.
Even if Patterson has a bad batting eye, he's a speedier leadoff hitter than Cabrera would be.
The Sox should see how he is in 3 years, when he's close to the end of his arbitration.
I have a feeling that there will be at least 1 down year and a few trips to the DL by then.

What does Corey Patterson bring to the table that justifies benching Quentin? Corey Patterson isn't all that good at baseball.
He's a more natural CF, better speed, can hit for decent power.
I'd rather try Corey than Jerry Owens.
Gagne was better, he died a closer's death.
Troy Percival, Robb Nen, Matt Mantei, Armando Benitez, Eddie Guardado, Keith Foulke all had their arms blow up in one manner or another.
K-Rod is due.
It is a move of desparation to sign a guy who is overweight, out-of-game shape, still recovering, and who will not be ready until June, to a 9 mil deal.
