  1. QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 12:41 AM) I love watching bobby pitch. It's like watching jello shake. Mesmerizing.
  2. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) How long does Shaq have left on his deal then? I believe two years.
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) What happens if Shaq retires say at the end of this season, in terms of does that team still have to pay him, but does it still count against the cap? I believe "yes" on both accounts. Allen Houston haunted the Knicks for years.
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) Joe Borchard is probably one of the nicest human beings ever to wear a White Sox uniform. He also worked extremely hard. Sometimes ability and effort don't get it done either. I think that his hitting style as so ingrained in his psyche that it was hard to change without eliminating the one thing that made him mlb ready - massive power. So, it was either loopy swings with holes in them or Sandy Alomar/Ben Davis-like power (Big man with no power).
  5. Phoenix needs to "man up" regarding Marion "wearing on them" or deal Marion for someone better than the albatross that is Shaq's contract.
  6. MSN.com is a dog. I expect it to be "yahoo.com powered by microsoft ®"
  7. Perfect weapon for a group that has smaller fast moving ships looking to make total destruction as quickly as possible, wouldn't you say?
  8. He passed the physical, so yes, he's a Met.
  9. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 01:05 AM) Kind of a throwback to the old days of baseball, the beginning days. Back in the 16th Century when all players were vampires.
  10. Solid 3rd place in the Central, maybe second.. perhaps the WC if they can replace Garland with a better SP than Floyd and maybe get a real leadoff guy.
  11. I think that a Hoyt Wilhelm statue might work. Too bad he died in 2002.
  12. Well, the other issue is, that the Sox historically have never had that many Hall of Fame-caliber players on their rosters. There are maybe 2 or 3 guys in the last 30 years. (Fisk, Thomas, maybe Baines) Not counting guys who played on the Sox past their primes (Seaver, Carlton). Before that: Rich Gossage, Luis Aparicio, Hoyt Wilhelm, Nellie Fox, Early Wynn, Larry Doby, George Kell. Non-HOF but good: (Wilber Wood, Jim Kaat, Tommy John, Dick Allen, Rocky Colavito, Norm Cash)
  13. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Feb 2, 2008 -> 07:45 PM) Let's see some comparison with other teams to back that up. How do they compare to the other 26 teams that have been around for 30 years plus? When I get home from work, I'll go all Baseball Almanac on you. For now though, the basic premise of my post was mostly speaking of teams pre-free agency. So, players from 1901-1978 primarily.
  14. QUOTE(max power @ Feb 2, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) Its a social taboo to even criticize religion in general, as evidenced by the comment two posts up. Its rarely done, therefore, and by a lot less people. Puhleese. People criticize religion all the time. Mostly it's by people who used to be in that religion and have left it. It's re-directed anger against their parents/grandparents to criticize the religion that they grew up with.
  15. QUOTE(shipps @ Feb 2, 2008 -> 12:05 PM) Yes knighti,I was aware his numbers are good.But for a statue I would think you need to be an absolute icon. It's knightni, ships. I see you missed the part about him being JR's illegitimate son. Honestly, the Sox don't have much history when it comes to player loyalty (ie. players here longer than 6 years) They're historically too cheap to re-sign them in their expensive years.
  16. QUOTE(shipps @ Feb 2, 2008 -> 11:52 AM) I dont know.I personally dont hold Harold in that high of regard.Is he really statue worthy? http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/sco...s&st=career .289 2,866 hits 1628 RBI Jerry Reinsdorf's illegitimate son.
  17. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Feb 2, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) No that it will ever happen, but I still think "Shoeless" Joe Jackson should have a statue. He played 5 1/2 seasons in Chicago, less than half of his 13 year career. Yes, he was good, but he's not statue-worthy. The only reason he's known is for 1919.
  18. Any truth to the rumor that Baines himself will be the statue?
  19. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 05:40 PM) Lebitard=ratingz True story, Le Batard means the "The Bastard" in French
  20. QUOTE(max power @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) In this country, racism. In many other nations sexism. Biggest problem in the world? Religion. Bigger problem... Self-centeredness disguised as humanism that derives from blind religious intolerance.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 09:02 AM) (Ron Paul) needs to forget about money and start raising some votes. He is fading into oblivion faster than Bobby Brown. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) Lay off of Bobby Brown. . . to his credit he's the only one to ever beat Houston almost as badly as the 2005 World Series Champs. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Its my prerogative. I can do what I want to do. Ah yes. Nothing quite says "Hey! I'm an old guy!" like quoting Bobby Brown lyrics.
  22. QUOTE(StatManDu @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) THIS DATE IN WHITE SOX HISTORY: FEBRUARY 1ST NIGHTBOAT TO CAIRO 1914: The White Sox and Giants played to a 3-3 tie in Cairo, Egypt as part of their world tour. So THAT'S what it was!
