Olney retweeted Mark Feinsand's tweet saying Youk to Yankees is unlikely, and Keppinger seems to be the hottest target right now.

Heyman tweeted that Choo and Cabrera are very available...but Indians are looking for long-term assets. I'm not sure either fits with the Sox needs, though. Choo has always been a Sox killer...

So what type of 3rd baseman do we need?
Based on what little rumor activity there has been, it seems the Sox are looking at Youk, Keppinger, Hannahan, Morel, and maybe Chavez. If we say AJ will not return, how would you rate the choices? I'd say Youk, Keppinger, Chavez, Hannahan/Morel.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 08:51 AM) Keppinger isn't thrilling but it certainly seems like we could do worse. Yeah, not a bunch of power but seems like he can hit okay. Anyone know about his defense?

AJ Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 07:59 AM) If the Sox go with Flowers behind the plate, they will do something other than Morel/Hannahan at 3B. I imagine it will be an either/or situation. Flowers and someone like Youk or AJ and Morel.

So far, the winter meetings have been coma-inducing in regards to the Sox. I realize there's still plenty of time before spring training, but I was at least expecting some rumors.

AT&T Uverse
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 01:31 PM) No, Comcast is a terribly run company...the only thing is their product is solid...it works, it's very fast, and tends to have very few outages. Comcast, for Internet, is an unfortunate recommendation I must make to everyone. When it comes to TV service...I don't see a difference in any of them, be they wired or dish, and aside from their introductory prices, they're mostly the exact same costs. I've heard that their internet is very fast, and I've been tempted. Overall, I think it's terrible how much consumers have to pay for TV service. I wish there was an a la cart option. I'm sure I'm like most people who have a "200" or "300" package and only watch 1/3 of the channels.

AT&T Uverse
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 11:56 AM) There are always people that don't have issues...or so they think. Fact is, their wireless service is the worst in the nation, not by my opinion, but because it's the worst. AT&T is synonymous with low quality. A few of you having no problems when they have the lowest service ratings across all the industries you mentioned show that while it may work great for some, by and large, it doesn't for most. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 11:57 AM) AT&T's internet is total garbage unless you happen to live very close to a central office. Even then, they can't come close to competing with Comcast in terms of speed. I have the cheapest Comcast internet package I could get, and it's like 20mbit down, 5mbit up. Not theoretical, but actual speeds sustained. And I find those speeds to be mediocre. Are you a Comcast salesman or something? I realize every provider has their issues, but for ME, AT&T has been fine. There are two big reasons why I will not go back to Comcast: No full home DVR and piss-poor customer service.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 12:12 PM) Maybe Mr. Hahn is going to demonstrate to Mr. Williams what stealth really is. We won't even realize a move has been made until 5 days after it happens! Maybe he's already made a slew of trades and signings and he's hanging out at the winter meetings, laughing.

AJ Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 11:59 AM) Possible, but he's certainly not going to say the opposite publicly. It would take any negotiating leverage he had away. If AJ still signed with another team, it would leave him with a catcher who knows the GM has zero confidence. It is strange we hear absolutely nothing about AJP negotiations with any team. That is odd. I truly expected to hear that he has been talking to this team or that team. There just hasn't been any rumors about any other team seriously looking at him. Which may not mean a thing, but as each day goes by there seems to be a chance he might return.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 11:42 AM) One thing we really don't know is what the White Sox payroll is going to be. They always say they are right against it. Sometimes they don't spend another dime, sometimes they add $25 million to the payroll. This has been the Sox's line for years. They always say that they are pretty close to the top but add "if the right deal comes along..." That being said, I still don't expect a signing like Greinke or Hamilton.

AT&T Uverse
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 10:33 AM) Allow me to apply to golden rule when it comes to any technology when the name AT&T is somehow attached... If you can avoid using AT&T, avoid using AT&T. This rule *always* applies for everything and anything they offer. In the end, you will NOT save money, you will NOT have better service, and you will NOT have a better experience than you could have elsewhere. I've had no problem with them. We've had wireless service through them for about 3 years now, and we've had U-Verse for about 4 years. Over the past 8 years or so, we've had Dish, Comcast, and now U-Verse. U-Verse has been the best, by far. I've compared prices for the package of TV, internet, and phone, and AT&T has the best price for what we need. As far as wireless, it's not cheap, but I wouldn't have saved much of anything had I switched to another carrier.

AJ Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 10:42 AM) He would get paid, and would be somewhere he is comfortable. His role would only be diminished if his performance warranted it diminished. I just don't get where anyone gets the idea AJ tells management he's not taking a day off. I guess it is all part of the campaign to prove he is a tool. Throw out as much garbage as you can and see if it sticks. AJ has saved the White Sox at least 25 starts by back up catchers every year. If you look at some of his back ups over the years, that was pretty huge. I'm not going to say that money doesn't matter to AJ. Obviously that's going to be one of the factors that he considers when he finally signs somewhere. But, to me it seems like how much he would get to play would be a huge factor for him. He's not going to take a huge pay cut to go somewhere so he can play 90% of the time. However, if it came down to $1MM or $2MM and playing 70% of the time or 90% of the time, I would think he might sacrifice a little money to get more playing time. And I agree with you about AJ being in control of when he plays. He doesn't make the lineups, and I don't think he's telling the manager when he should be playing.

2012 TV Thread
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 06:55 PM) Not really a spoiler since it is all speculation but the preview shows for sure Daryl running in the forest and it implies Merle is alive since they asked "Why did you bring him here" or "What is he doing here" something along those lines. True, not a spoiler, but with the way the show ended, the audience was led to believe that something bad might happen to either or both of them. Then the previews show Daryl in the woods and then Glenn asking why "he" was there...I'm assuming "he" is Merle.

2012 Book Thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 30, 2012 -> 03:43 PM) Ugh, Dance with Dragons SUCKED. I'm with Zoom from a few months ago - the last 2 books blew. They took forever to get through and very little happened. So disappointed. I found myself skipping pages of DoD just to get it over with. I'm sure i'll pick up the new one, whenever it comes out, but i'm not at all jazzed about it like I was moving onto book 3. Moving on to The Passage. Book one of three about some kind of post-apocalyptic world. Heard very good things. I started The Passage, but I couldn't get into it. I'm hoping I just wasn't in the mood at the time. I might give it another chance one day.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 05:55 PM) Calling him a backup catcher isn't exactly presenting the entire picture. That backup catcher did hit 25 home runs last year. If the Sox were to acquire Salty, I would imagine him and Flowers sharing the duties much more evenly than AJ and Flowers did.

So what type of 3rd baseman do we need?
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) I would prefer one entire thread about everything. If you want to talk politics, NBA, or White Sox, it doesn't matter...there's one thread for it. Yeah, but then we'd be all confused and wondering why Adam Dunn showed up at the prison and cut off Abu Nazir's head while complaining about the fiscal cliff.

White Sox winter meetings thread...
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 11:42 AM) Platoons aren't necessarily a bad thing, especially at an offensively challenged postion overall ©, and another position where there isn't much available, and a good chunk of the league is looking to fill (3B). To be honest, I'm okay with a Salty/Flowers platoon. But Morel and Chavez? I don't know. I'm not sure there's any hope for Morel.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 11:25 AM) http://sulia.com/channel/baseball/f/608e44...?source=twitter Phil Rogers Purely in terms of fit, Boston is emerging as a possible source of help for the White Sox. The Red Sox are kicking the tire on free-agent starters but have interest in Gavin Floyd. They are looking to move Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who would be a good piece for the White Sox as a platoon partner for Tyler Flowers. The White Sox would save some money, which would help them fill their needs at third base. Eric Chavez is an interesting name on the free-agent market there. He could share the position with Brent Morel, who gets at least half a mulligan to prove that he can hit in the big leagues. Definitely something to watch. Platoon at 3rd and C? No thanks. If the Sox trade Floyd to save money, the money needs to be spent on a full-time fix for 3B.
