  1. Catchers are getting paid. I expect AJ to get a 1 or 2 year deal for around $10MM per now. A Flowers/Salty combo wouldn't be terrible.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 09:22 AM) Darryl didn't exist in the comics. Now, AMC is going to have a hell of a time getting rid of him, he quickly became the fan favorite. Hard to tell from the quick preview, but
  3. Soto to re-sign with Rangers for $3MM. $3 million for a catcher who hit .198 last year.
  4. I don't know if this necessarily relates to the Winter Meetings, but ARod is likely to miss part of 2013 with another surgery, according to Joel Sherman. I would think the Yankees may be looking at signing a fill-in guy (maybe Chavez?).
  5. QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 07:00 AM) I don't think anyone can predict with any certainty what the White Sox will do. Usually, their moves don't leak until after the fact. I do think they are still hoping to resign Kevin Youkalis and some of their other action (which may be limited overall because of their limited financial flexibility) may be waiting that out. I'd expect (and hope) the signing of Youkilis before AJ. I like AJ, but the hole at 3B looks a lot worse without someone like Youkilis. I think Flowers would be okay as the starting catcher. The Sox just don't have anyone in house who can take over 3B.
  6. Anyone expecting the Sox to make any significant moves this week during the Winter Meetings?
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 29, 2012 -> 05:56 AM) Mostly. But I'm almost positive a trade of a well liked player will happen for what is going to be considered on here to be small returns. And then we'll wish it was quiet. Uh oh. That sounds like a move to clear salary. Are yu saying you're positive as in you have some info, or positive as in a good gut feeling? Either way, if it happens and the deal clears salary to sign a player we need, that would be fine.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 09:42 AM) ESPN asked twenty writers where Hamilton would end uo. Two said the Sox. One said five years, 125 mil. Other, four years for 81 mil. Highly doubtful, obviously. But it if happened, the deal would be closer to (if not lower than) 4/$81MM.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 08:15 AM) Given the alternatives at each position, I'd much rather have Youk back than AJ. There is at least a chance that Flowers matches AJ's production. Even if Youk is only healthy half the year he'll produce better than any of the other 3B alternatives. I hope that if Flowers gets consistent starts we see some decent production out of him. I'm not sure he'll hit for a high average, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for him to be a .250/20+ HR guy. His defense behind the plate is good, and it seems as if the pitching staff likes him. I agree with Youk, too. He plays his ass off, and maybe that's why he's starting to break down. But, I'll take him for a year or two while another option is explored. And it seems as if he's a good clubhouse guy. I've heard both sides of that story, but I'm more inclined to believe his presence is a positive.
  10. I obviously have nothing to base this one, but I believe the Sox will re-sign one of AJ or Youk. I'm not sure who I'd rather see, though. I would imagine it would cost about the same for each, although AJ might get more. I suppose if it came down to it, the Sox's in house solution for catcher is better than 3B. I don't know about Flowers as the starting catcher, but there just doesn't seem to be any option for 3B. So, I guess spending the money on Youk would make more sense...provided it's a 1 or 2 year deal.

My usual response to what I want for Christmas is "I don't know" or " A gift certificate", but this year I'm actually wanting a few specific things. I'd love to have a Keurig. I drink coffee everyday at work (I have a coffee pot in my office), but it's hard to justify making coffee at home on the weekends. So, having a Keurig would be nice as I could make one cup at a time. In addition, my wife and kids could use it for hot chocolate. I also have been eyeballing a tablet. As cool as an iPad is, I think I'd actually like the new 8.9" Kindle Fire.

I have it and really like it. The ability to record four shows at once is the feature that got me to switch. I also recently got two wireless receivers, and they work great. It's actually as simple as the commercials make it seem. TV is very good. HD is crisp and clear, and I like the fact that the channels are grouped by type. Phone is fine. We don't use the landline much anymore, but we kept it and chose the lowest level (500 minutes a month, I think). Internet can be slow at times, but I've only had that problem on my computer. The WiFi on my phone is quite fast. So, maybe it's where my computer is located. Overall, I couldn't see switching to anything else. The price is better than Comcast, which doesn't have the same DVR options. Dish or Direct might be a bit cheaper, but I wouldn't switch just because of the increased possibility of service disruption in weather.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 02:17 PM) I truly love DWise, but his time has passed. Very bad move for the Sox as they start to move forward for the season. Maybe Robin will be able to read his hot streaks and sit his ass the minute he looks like he's entering one of those tailspins. When he's hot he's damn good. When he's not, ugh. This is hardly a very bad move. Unless Wise is being pegged as a starter (which is doubtful), he adds some good depth to the bench. Robin shouldn't have to worry about his streaks because he'll be a 4th outfielder/pinch runner/pinch hitter/pitcher (j/k).
  14. I have no problem with this move. It does hint at something else happening. Wise adds some depth, and he played well for the Sox last year. I don't think he's a starter, so I'd be surprised to see Rios or De Aza traded.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 09:44 AM) I think the Tigers will win 95 or more games, so I think that is what it would take to win. Realistically, I don't see this team competing, and the don't have the resources to add the players that could change that. I'm not sure what everyone is so freaked out about. On paper, yes the Tigers have the team to win 95 games. But, on paper they looked very good last year, too. They won the division, but only because the Sox choked at the end. I don't think the Tigers will win 95+ games. I'm only basing that on history and a gut feeling. However, whoever wins the division will win more than 90 games. I think the Tigers and Sox will both be in the hunt.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 08:45 AM) Unlike some, I don't need a 95 win team to enjoy baseball season. Who said anything about a 95 win season? I'm not saying Detroit isn't the favorite. As a matter of fact, I would assume many of us would grudgingly pick the Tigers to win the division. But, if the Sox have a good year and win 88-90 games, they will more than likely "be in it" all season. I'm just saying, it's only November and you're already writing off the season. If you can enjoy White Sox baseball from game 1 to game 162 knowing they have no chance, more power to you. I want to believe that the Sox will have a chance, and I think they will especially if a few moves are made.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) No matter what they say, they aren't going to compete next year. Should probably go ahead and cancel the 2013 season. Why would you say there's no way they can compete? Detroit certainly looks better right now, but the Sox will add a few pieces. Even if the Tigers still look better on paper (which I'm sure they will), anything can happen. To go into a season saying there's no chance, well we should just become Royals fans. Otherwise, don't watch the games, don't expect anything, and don't complain. I'm looking forward to what moves the Sox will make, and I'm looking forward to next season. There's no doubt it'll be an uphill battle with Detroit, but it's a long season, and you never know what might happen.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 12:28 PM) DKnobler ‏@DKnobler Tigers announce they released Ryan Raburn Was he hurt last year? Looking at his stats, he was decent until last year, and he only played in 66 games.
  19. The Sox need to make a trade or sign someone so we can have something else to talk about.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 12:51 AM) So here's a question who has the Kindle Fire. I'm thinking of buying my brother (10) one of these since it has the nice FreeTime thing for kids. So is it worth the extra $40 to get the Kindle Fire HD over the $160 Kindle Fire? For a kid probably not. My daughter (11) has a Fire (non-HD), and it's more than enough tablet for her. We bought it for her before the HD came out, so I'm not sure of the new non-HD Fires have FreeTime. If they do, I'd say save the $40. The regular Fire is a very good tablet for the money.

I knew I should have stocked up on Twinkies. Not to eat but to sell on eBay. I like Twinkies, Ding Dongs, etc., but I prefer Little Debbie mainly because they are half the price. Now, anyone who is old enough remembers when Ho-Hos and Ding Dongs were much better...back when they were packaged in foil. I believe the cream was different, too.
  22. This is always a touchy issue. I agree that it comes to how the dogs are trained, but pitbulls along with a few other breeds have the capacity to be very dangerous. Many other breeds do not. And there have been cases where a historically calm dog has snapped and attacked. I steer clear of those types of dogs, and I wouldn't want my kids near any of them.

Highly recommend This Book Is Full of Spiders by David Wong. It's the sequel to John Dies At The End. Off the wall horror-comedy. I don't even know how to really explain it except it involves a paranormal psychoactive drug that allows users to travel between universes and time. Needless to say bad things happen as things from other universes find their way to ours.
