White Sox Manager Search Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 08:39 AM) The Sox will be so convince, MLB will just give them 5 more wins towards 2013. The five extra wins were part of the trade of Ozzie to Florida.

LET'S MAKE A LIST '11
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) Absolutely include baseball... and there's WAY more than you'd think in the sports listed above. Yep. Don't forget about soccer. And if we do the list, would we include teams from the USFL, ABA, WHL, etc.? Tons of teams there...some with memorable names.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) We were 19 and 12 in September/October that year. Wow. It seemed worse going through it. I suppose 19-12 is pretty good.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) Our Sox weren't choking, they were just getting caught by a white hot Indians team. There was some choking involved. Yes, the Indians were insane that month, but the Sox almost lost too many games.

Apps I'd like to see
QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 05:29 AM) I like my Gas Buddy ap, but how about Beer Buddy? Users report beer prices around town. Find Craft Beer is a pretty good app. It doesn't give prices, but it'll find places (bars, restaurants, breweries, stores) that sell craft beer close to you. It gets all its information from users, so it's decent in that respect.

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
Ozzie Guillen is not a class act. Over the past couple years he has been the antithesis of a class act. He wore out his welcome here, asked for more money and for the GM to be fired, and then he quit. He's going to go to Florida and be the same Ozzie. I think less people will care because there are just less people down there that care about baseball. If he starts talking crap about Metamucil or Rascals or Life Alert, well that'll be a different story.

Who do you want as the new manager?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) Pohlad said he and Smith are back for next year. Could you imagine Gardenhire as manager of the Sox? Hawk would never stop talking about him. It would be like's greg's undying love of Ozzie.

Hawk signs a 4 yr deal..
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) "I tell you what, Stone Pony..." "You can put it on the booooaaard..." *thump*

I don't suppose there's any chance Gardenhire leaves Minnesota?

Who do you want as the new manager?
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 08:39 AM) When did Francona become Tito? I wondered the same thing. I kept seeing Tito, and I was wondering who they were talking about.

Who do you want as the new manager?
How old is Cito Gaston? I thought he was old when he was in the running 8 years ago.

Your favorite moment(s) of the 2011 season?
Lillibridge's two catches against the Yankees. Humber's first half of the season. The few exciting moments when the Sox got within a few games of first. Ozzie being released from his contract. Today, because it's over and we can start looking towards 2012.

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) Well, it's more than $2 million per, SO OZZIE WINS!!! YES! The contract will be re-negotiated after the Marlins win the WS in 2012. It'll likely include additional monies when Ozzie receives smiles and handshakes at local eateries.

Why did KW have to be a jerk to Cora?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) I think he deserves credit for '05, a lot of credit. But how he survives this mess of a season and Ozzie is the fall guy for Dunn/Rios/Peavy is beyond me. s***, even this year's Jackson trade was stupid. Greg, you have realized that Ozzie wasn't fired, right? He wanted to go, so the Sox let him go. Ozzie asked for an extension and more money while KW offered to step down. I'm not absolving KW of any of this mess, but at least he realized that things didn't pan out like he planned. Ozzie isn't the fall guy here. He made the decision to leave.

Great Links ~ A catch-all
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 24, 2011 -> 09:14 AM) Every morning I get a kick out of reading the new entries on Literally Unbelievable. It's a site that posts funny Facebook reactions to Onion articles by people who obviously don't realize that The Onion is satire. Ah, that's good stuff. I have relatives that re-post so many stupid things that are obviously hoaxes. Like the ones that say Facebook will be a pay site..."It was even reported on NBC!"

"We have spent, over the last decade, a lot of time in first plac
The thing that bothers me most about KW's quote is that it sounds like he doesn't plan on getting rid of Ozzie. I'm more of a KW apologist than others, but with that mentality he needs to go, too. Both guys have not done great jobs, and if only one were to go I would say Ozzie. But with silly ass quotes like this, KW needs to go, too.

Lillibridge out for year
QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 08:01 AM) He really isnt very small. 5' 11" and 185? Curious about how big some of the people here who are calling him little are. No, he's not a little guy, but compared to Paul Konerko (who isn't a huge guy), Brent looks small. Put him next to Adam Dunn and he looks like a kid. More than anything, I think it's just that he looks like a kid.

a "successful season" in the major leagues
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 11:03 PM) Do you really think that in 2008, when Tampa Bay finished above 4th place for the first time in franchise history, made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, won their division for the first time in franchise history, won a playoff series for the first time in franchise history, and won the AL pennant for the first time in franchise history, the team was a failure? Tampa's rise from baseball obscurity was quick, but there are other teams out there that would consider just having a winning season a success. Look at the Pirates. The year they finish above .500 will be this first in over 20 years. After that happens, they will be expected to do more to have a "successful" season. The whole idea of a successful season is not black and white. It's not just winning the World Series. It depends on the team and the situation they are in.

Mark Buehrle appreciation thread?
QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 05:29 AM) Tough to celebrate guys who achieved because of cheating, well for most people it is. So at the end of his career. and he'll need many more years of 12-15 wins, would you rather visit the hall and see a video of Mark's no hitters and him sliding on a tarp, pitching in a World Series, smiling, or Clemens, Bonds, Sosa, etc etc? Which promotes the game of baseball more? It should be a celebration, but is it when this era produced so many dark moments? That's also a reason why I believe the hall needs Frank in on the first ballot. Well put.

a "successful season" in the major leagues
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 10:09 AM) This whole argument is a joke (sorry, I know you didn't make it up). If the teams in our division play so much harder against us and none of their other opponents for the ridiculous reasons that greg brings up, then the opponents in the AL East would be doing the exact same thing to the Yankees and Red Sox. The issue here is that the AL East teams are far superior down the line. 4 out of 5 AL East teams are better than all but one AL Central team. Once again, this guy shows that he uses no logic whatsoever. He tries to claim that the Sox are at some sort of disadvantage when, in reality, they should be one of the best locks in baseball most years to win their division. You're right about the Central being a weaker division. And, yes, the Sox should be at an advantage playing the likes of Detroit, KC, Cleveland, and Minnesota vs. NY, Boston, and Tampa. The only part of his argument I could get on board with is that I think teams do take those divisional games seriously. I'm not saying they don't play as hard when playing a team outside their division, but teams know they have to beat those teams in their own division. The Sox seem to choke so often, though. And that's what frustrates me.
