This summer is going to be pretty great for concerts. Rolling Stones, Lolla, North Coast (Wu Tang and Nas), Ti/Wayne. The only annoying part is no Ice Cube, as of now he doesnt have a Chicago stop.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 01:42 PM) I highly doubt a jury of 12 would see it as being terminated for offending people versus terminated for being Christian and talking about his Christian beliefs in response to a question about a homosexual basketball player. I'd take this case every day of the week. Youd be betting on the jury being bigots. Id be betting on the jury being good people. I think Id win more than Id lose, but I admit regardless of the correctness of my view, I would be fighting an uphill battle because many people have small minded views and would want to champion Broussard for his opinion. It wouldnt be about the law, it would be about hating gay people. And that is the saddest part of this entire discussion.

Look I dont care if he is fired, Ive never advocated for his firing. I was simply responding to the nonsense argument that he COULDNT BE FIRED because it was religious based. Nothing more, nothing less.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) What violation? He said his opinion on TV? That's his job... Im sure his employment contract has something about "conduct detrimental to the company". If in their determination it was detrimental, why could they not fire him? Simply saying "oh its his opinion based on religion" is not a get out of jail free card in any document I have ever seen. But this is all speculation. I just dont buy that he is somehow being discriminated against for his religion, hes being called out for being unnecessarily hateful. And I really like to burn people like that.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) Soxbadger that's a silly example. Broussard hasn't infringed on anyone else's rights like you would be doing (either physically or via sexual harassment). It really isnt. If religion makes things "ok", then I can do it. I used an absurd example because that is how you test the legitimacy of an argument. Otherwise we have to agree that you can be fired for breaking the rules of your employment, regardless of whether you base it on religion or not.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 01:20 PM) Well, in the context of employment it absolutely is. You cannot be terminated for your religious beliefs. If Broussard was fired yesterday/today, it's obvious it was based on his statements relating to his religious beliefs. It had nothing to do with his actually employment. That's a good discrimination case from his side. Edit: I don't think this is absolute, but I think here, within the context of his statements, it would be. And he wouldnt be terminated for his beliefs. Hed be terminated for his actions on a tv show that were in conflict with his employment agreement. Just because a statement has "religion" in it, does not mean your employer all of a sudden cant do anything. If I walk up to my secretary and say "My religion says I can put my dick in your mouth because Im a man and your my inferior" Do they just sit on their hands and say: "Well s***, its his religion, guess we gotta let him rape a ho." Its absolutely ludicrous that you can not differentiate between "being fired because you are a Christian" and "being fired because you happened to say/do something stupid but had a "religious" context." This is pretty basic. The actual reason why you dont fire Broussard is because a good portion of ESPN's viewers are idiots and this type of controversy drives ratings.
-
No it isnt. You dont get to say stupid s*** and say "Oh its my religion" Do you think it would be okay for Chris Berman to ask Ryan Braun "What do you think about the Jews killing Christ?" Hes not being discriminated against, its not because hes a Christian, its because hes an idiot who did something stupid. Religion is not a blanket get out of jail free card.
-
Im just going to be straight, I dont care what your religion says. If you parrot it, you own the statement now. You can keep silent, you can say nothing, but as soon as you parrot, you own it.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) Eh, yeah I guess. I meant more that he didn't go to another level with it. What wait? So he just said he was a sinner, which implies eternal damnation? So he didnt go out and say "Kill Jason Collins". Well glad that our standards are so low now, congrats Broussard you didnt actively advocate for a hate crime. This is seriously nonsense and Im judging the s*** out of anyone who thinks what Broussard said is at all tolerable. Yeah I own up to my judging, because when Im doing it, I stand by my damn opinions. I dont wilt away and hide behind "Oh its my religion". So what, if my religion is ass backwards, I cant run around and be a complete douche without expecting people to hold it against me. He has a right to his opinion, I have a right to show him for the clown he is.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 12:13 PM) Ok? I'm just saying I don't see how it's bigoted to say here are my religious beliefs and he's not following them so he's not a Christian. It's pretty matter of fact. It's not a personal judgement (although i'm sure he has some). Under that kind of definition of bigot, you're a bigot for not being tolerant of his statements. How is this not a personal judgment: You are completely making up a new statement, Broussard didnt say: "Im a Christian, and according to the Bible, which may or may not be correct, homosexuality is a sin." That would be an interpretation. But as soon as you say "I THINK", its a judgment, you are interpreting the damn book and coming up with your own judgment. You are literally trying to reinvent the word judgment here. If HE DIDNT WANT TO JUDGE HE COULD HAVE SIMPLY SAID: "WHILE I AM A CHRISTIAN IT IS NOT MY PLACE TO JUDGE, THE BIBLE SAYS X, BUT I AM NOT GOD." But he didnt.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 12:08 PM) I didn't hear any "judging" from him. I say him say what he does isn't in accordance with the faith. There was no "And I think he's gong to burn in hell" or "and we shouldn't allow those people in the NBA" follow up. I agree with you that it's weird he got into that in the first place. But it was OTL, and reporters frequently editorialize on all sorts of topics. I think it was fair game and that's why they put him out there. Are you just being willfully ignorant? If the bolded isnt judging, then I am not sure what that word means anymore.

What does it matter, every Christian worships a false idol, which is pretty much a top 10 no no. . But who cares about the hypocrisy, people are allowed to have hypocritical opinions. They are allowed to have nonsensical opinions. They can have the stupidest opinion that has ever existed. I just dont have to sit silently, I have the right to my opinion as well.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) Oh f*** that. This is a perfect example of the double standard that exists with people that cry out about discrimination and tolerance. Broussard says that Collins being gay doesn't compute with his version of Christianity and people are saying he should be fired. God, how dare he have a personal belief and some conviction to tell people about it! That's so progressive and tolerant to be understanding of other people that way. So accepting! Because there is a difference. Jason Collins is just promoting himself. I have no problem if Broussard runs around saying hes the biggest Christ supporter and he can have as many Jesus #1 stickers as he would like. But Id have a problem if Jason Collins came out and started judging straight people, Id have a problem if a white announcer started judging black people, Id have a problem if a black announcer started judging white people. There is a difference between having your opinion and unnecessarily attacking and judging people. Broussard can believe in whatever fictional books he wants, he can believe in zombies, he can believe in magic, he can believe in ghosts, that is fine. But people should expect blow back when they judge others. Just because its his opinion, doesnt mean I cant crucify him for it. Yeah pun intended.
-
I get that people who think being gay is a sin and stuff, will react negatively to this and question why people are making a big deal out of it. And there are probably some people who this is a bigger deal to than any NBA championship, sporting title etc. Hopefully this will lead to more tolerance and acceptance.

If youve ever read a Rock post, you knew it wasnt bad quality
-
Im guessing some had no concept of price. Its not terribly shocking, its just all relative.
-
Im not sure if people are trolling for a fight or what, but it took courage, because unfortunately the world will continue to be filled with small minded people.
-
Agree, I think he meant "I didnt become an athlete to be the first gay one"

Bostic is a safe pick, extremely productive LB in SEC, hard to imagine he cant be at worst decent in NFL. (edit) Probably selected over Brown because he can potentially play both ILB/OLB. Where as Brown is more OLB

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 26, 2013 -> 03:48 PM) Well I can't say you're wrong seeing as how Seattle started Russell Wilson over whatshisnamethaticantrememberandwillrememberassoonasihitpost. Flynn And I dont know, its just the whole Shea Mcclellin thing last year, and now this. I want to believe, but its hard when Im given very little reason to.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 26, 2013 -> 03:37 PM) Highly unlikely unless he was something like a top 10 pick (in which case the Bears wouldn't have signed him) Even Urlacher wasn't given a starting spot right away, he had to show he belonged there to stay. Im not suggesting that he would be given a spot. Im suggesting that after watching the 2 players play, I believe that the coaching staff would come to the determination that Eifert > Bennett, and I would hope that they would start the best player. Just like if they determine that Long > Bushrod that they would start Long.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 26, 2013 -> 03:02 PM) Wasn't all the talk this year about how this is the worst draft in decades? Why do people get so upset about it? This draft had Eifert and Ertz, who were considered 2 of the better TE prospects in the last few years. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 26, 2013 -> 03:06 PM) But so does Long - actually the running game b/c the interior blocking last year was pathetic. If Long isn't going to have immediate impact and has to get technique down, a rookie 2nd string TE who plays in specific formations isn't going to either. Well I think Eifert is better than Bennett, so Eifert would be the starter. The good thing is, these posts will be here next year, I have no problem standing by my opinions.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 26, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) I could have summarized my post by saying Long adds more to the team, right now, as a guard, than Eifert adds to them as a TE (Bennett) or Floyd (Melton, Paea) Maybe, Id have said that Eifert added more because he would help the OL and passing game. So that is 2 birds with 1 stone, and likely would start from day 1. Jefferies, Eifert, Bennett, Marshall That is a nice 2te/2wr set that gives you a ton of flexibility. Way more than getting a lineman who may never start. Just personal preference.
