Kyle, If the bears historically had good 1st round picks, Id just let it go. But when they consistently muck it up, its just not saddening. Im tired of being fed nonsense.

I guess I just felt the Bears were going to be drafting to compete this year, and Long is project.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 26, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) I don't think his rawness hurts him as much in football as it would in other sports. If he's as gifted and good as they say, they can coach him up and he should be decent, which is an upgrade for the Bears, in short order. If they do plan to play him at G, it makes me wonder if a guy like Carimi is out the door. The beat writers made it a point at the end of the season to mention that Carimi was their choice to be most improved in 2013. Apparently he still wasn't healthy. Maybe he's never going to be healthy. I have to disagree, you are looking at this from a "everything will go right perspective." The problem is that Kyle Long has historically been a guy that "everything will go wrong", whether its getting kicked out of FSU, dui, etc, Kyle Long does not have a history you can hang your hat on. Once again he could become a HOF, just seems like an extreme risk on a 1st round pick, when it was not really necessary. Hes one of the few players in this draft where its possible due to circumstances outside of football, never even plays a down.

Shack, Id date your ex sight unseen just for the house
-
Its pretty obvious the dream is for him to be a tackle, the problem is that he is extremely raw, with very little on field playing time. I just am not really a big fan of that strategy, unless you are planning to go 5-11 or worse, and then who cares, get him in there for 16 games and get experience. But right now the bears just keep being in the middle, which is the worst place for a team.
-
Sure long is a great athlete, but I think he started 4 games for Oregon last year? Not exactly what you are looking for in your first round pick. He may turn out to be a HOF, its just right now, extremely risky.

I just cant even get excited about the NFL draft anymore, to much heartbreak.

I liked Spikes and Burfict a hell of a lot more than Te'o in college. Id have no problem if a team brought Te'o in undrafted, I just dont think hes worth a 1st round pick.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 06:37 PM) When your QB is Favre or Rodgers, your receivers can be 3rd round talents. How would Calvin Johnson be stopped if Rodgers was throwing him the ball? I am not so sure Cutler falls into that category. That said, I think it is highly unlikely they take a WR in round one, but if they did, he wouldn't have to be too productive to be one of their finest first round picks in years. I didnt bring up the packers. Gosox claimed the Packers drafted wrs in the 2nd round almost every year. I never would have used the Packers to compare to the Bears, it makes no sense.

Without giving massive spoilers its probably just better to not try and explain. Im pretty sure where you are at right now its not 100% clear what is going on.
-
Just keep watching. Its connected to cortexafan (spelling).

Dont worry Im pretty sure that the supreme court is still the one who ultimately rules on whether a law is legal. But Im not sure anyone wins playing this game.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 01:41 PM) Yeah some positions have better value later in a draft. Running back, WR and safety. I was just trying to make the point that if a player falls to a team and that team has that player rated as the best player available by far, sometimes that can out weigh need or later round value. I agree which is why I said if a Calvin Johnson type fell to the Bears you draft him. But that is not the case here, Patterson is an extreme risk type of player. Only 1 season at division 1 level. He had 46 receptions. CJ was more productive as a frosh... So its more about wrs in this draft and why it makes no sense to draft risks like that high. Its just bad strategy.
-
Witesoxfan, That is to simplistic of a view. Its not just about "need", its about scarcity of resources. If there are 10 wrs who I value between 9.9 and 9.5 as compared to only 2 CBS that I value between 9.8 and 9.5, it would be shortsighted to draft the 9.9 receiver because even though technically the best value right then, it does not account for best overall value, which accounts for all draft selections. Since not every player can play every position, scarcity must count. You cant draft 7 of the same position, even if they are best player available.

What the Packers are doing is exactly what Im saying the Bears should do, not draft wrs high because good ones will fall. There is no way to argue that drafting a WR in the first round this year is somehow comparable to what the packers have been doing. That is fine if you arent using 1st and 2nd round picks. But he is arguing for the bears to draft a wr in the 1st, exactly opposite of how the Packers have done it. Its 2 different concepts.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) Or you could end up like the Packers. Who I think take a WR in the second round almost every year. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) I said second round and Greg Jennings was a second round pick. Since 2006 the Packers have drafted 2 Wrs in the 2nd round, how is that "almost every year"? Its not even every other year. Its twice since 2006, thats not very common.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) Or you could end up like the Packers. Who I think take a WR in the second round almost every year. If Cordarelle Patterson falls to the Bears in the first round and the Bears have him ranked as the number 1 or 2 WR in the draft. How do you not take him. What? http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft...0&type=team 2011 Randall Cobb was pick 64 (late 2nd). They drafted Jordy Nelson pick 36, early 2nd round in 2008 James Jones 2007 round 3 Greg Jennings 2006 round 3 Since 2006 the Packers have drafted 0 WRs in the first round. How do the Bears pass? Simply supply and demand. If you can get a substantially better talent at one position now, and you get roughly equal talent later, it doesnt matter if they are 1 or 5. It matters the separation in talent. And WR is a position where there is a ridiculous pool of taleny.
-
They spent a 2nd round pick on Jeffrey last year. You cant just keep throwing draft picks at WRs, you end up like the Lions. Unless they are a Calvin Johnson, you might as well wait until the mid rounds and get good value. I see no reason why Swope in the later round couldnt be a slot wr. There are just so many athletic wrs that you dont have to grab them early.

I hate River North, but what type of bars are you looking for? Insanely overpriced like Paris Club? Nonsensically overpriced like Bull & Bear? Or terrible and overpriced like Brewstone? The good news is you live in a great area to get on the el and go either North or West.
-
Drafting a wr in the first round who is not a complete stud is such a waste of resources. You can get a guy like Ryan Swope, much later on and he ran a 4.34 http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dspro...3&genpos=WR It just is to painful to watch the Bears draft these days.

That place looks really terrible from the outside, so Ive never walked in. Now Im intrigued. And I was about to say once place I would not recommend is called "The Counter" and was literally terrible over priced burgers. But when I searched they said its now closed. There is a shocker.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 05:09 PM) You were high. It happens. Nah drinking. Much harder to remember time/space/where you are when you are drunk, as compared to high.

8 blocks is a mile so I was a little off on how far it was. It seemed to only take 10 minutes walking, so I figured half a mile. But it is in fact 1.1 miles away
