QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 05:50 PM) You've never posted your name here. No one should ever listen to you. I dont trust anyone on the internet until proven otherwise. Even posters on Soxtalk Ill try and research if they make statements to see if there is any reason to believe it. Steve and I are very different people. The comparison I use is that if we ran a bar, Steve would want a big neon sign and tons of advertising. If I ran a bar, I would want no sign, and I would want no advertising. I dont care about publicity or any of that. Im the exact opposite. (edit) And while I may not agree with how this all went down, I will give Steve respect for owning up and saying he was wrong.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 05:45 PM) Was he not able to identify his source? Nope he was asked not to. Which should be an indication of the reliability. Whenever you dont read a sources name, you should not believe its true. If the source wont put there name to a statement, you should not believe its true.

QUOTE (Felix @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 05:38 PM) You really should take a journalism class or something before you try writing things about which statements you can/can't go on. As soon as "real" news outlets follow http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp I will too. But Im not holding Steve, or anyone, to a higher standard than professionals in the same field. That is flat out nonsense. — Identify sources whenever feasible. The public is entitled to as much information as possible on sources' reliability. See bold for why sport's journalism is a joke.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 05:37 PM) Wait a minute. Badger is with that site, too? lol. no wonder he won't stfu. Oh my goodness. I thought he was, at least in his mind, trying to make a legitimate argument. add badger to the list of those (manti, obama and steve) that shall forever rest in peace. Why? I said not to believe it multiple times. I even came on this site and asked why were people believing it? Not that I really care, its not like I post a ton of rumors and hope that people think Im a good source. Im not a good source, lets make that clear.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 05:36 PM) K.C Johnson @KCJHoop Thibodeau said Hinrich, Gibson, Hamilton and Rose out vs. Nuggets. #Bulls f*** off. Steve is wrong for sure now, you can commence the killing.
-
QUOTE (Felix @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 05:35 PM) Those sound like two very different statements. Steve told me the exact quote. So what I am saying is not any different, Steve just parsed it for this message board. For example, if the statement was "You should be there on monday because Rose is playing" I would think that is enough to go on. But that is up to Steve, I dont know these people, I cant verify their credibility.
-
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 05:26 PM) Only reason Soxbadger is posting so much is because he's involved with the site. BTW Badger, Cowley saying "not playing" doesn't stir the pot, and he's probably dealing with real sources. OMG Im driven by self interest. Cowley's source was Thibs quote, which was that Rose was UNLIKELY to play. Steve's source is someone else and is saying that he was told Rose would play. If you dont want that type of rumor, dont read it. Ive yet to see anyone make a credible argument why Steve shouldnt post information that he believes is credible. It would be one thing if Steve completely made this up, its another when he legitimately believes that he has information. Maybe he is wrong, maybe this kills the website. Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 05:22 PM) Why are you guys keep on saying there still is a chance he will play tonight? Just went through an hour of my feed not a single mention of Derrick Rose period. Please note I do not follow flapship on twitter. Because the only reputable site, Rotoworld, has yet to declare who the Bulls active list is for tonight, and that includes updates on Taj and Hinrich. Add that to the fact that Steve was told that Rose was going to be playing tonight. Maybe hell be wrong, but he feels confident in his source and that is his call not mine.
-
Please put me on ignore. Thanks in advance.
-
The funny part is that I thought steve was going to be proven wrong by about 12 today, and that all I was going to be reading was attacks/hate. I actually cant believe there is a chance I will leave work tonight not knowing if steve was right.
-
And just to be fair to Steve, why wasnt Felix hating on Cowley for doing the same thing: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/18904555-41...vs-nuggets.html Contrary to rumor, Derrick Rose not playing Monday vs. Nuggets Headline and the report are conflicting: So the headline says, definitely not playing. But the info says "re-evaluated". Now cowley, unlike steve, is writing for a national newspaper and being paid a large sum. You would think that someone like Felix who cares about journalistic integrity, would be far more upset about a major media news outlet using sensationalism, than a fan based blog. Even today's article Cowley flat out misleads the reader: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/basketball/...status-quo.html Thibs said "unlikely" that means there is a chance. A true reporter, would say that there is a chance Derrick Rose would play, and there is possibly some truth to the rumors. But we are talking about journalism, where sensationalism sells and facts are thrown away. So before you crucify Steve, ask yourself has he done something that is worse than people who are actually being paid to tell you good information? The answer is no.

This has the decision written all over it...

Matta is a good coach. He understands that when you have the best player on the court there is no need to play hectic/frantic just to try and get Wisconsin out of rhythm.

Id read Rocks blog.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) I have like 6 brackets. I have Wisconsin knocking them out in at least one. Wisconsin has been a lock to get to the sweet 16 the last few years but I think people always have them out right away. I usually do 2 brackets. 1 where Wisconsin wins the entire thing (as long as they are above an 8 seed) and another where I pick a legitimate champ. I pick Wisconsin to win so I dont ever have to worry about rooting against myself. I figure in most pools Im the only moron donating.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) When you want to become an actual source, or a place for information, "A roll of the dice" isn't a great place to start. Until then, enjoy obscurity. I dont want to be a source. Im a lawyer, I ethically can not reveal any information that I get. Im not about to ruin my real career that pays for the blog, by giving away "inside information" on a blog. The website is for fun, Steve happened upon something. He went with it. If one day this website starts making more money than my real job, then Ill start worrying about rolls of the dice, and whether or not Im considered a legitimate source of sports information.
-
Tony, If nothing comes off this, if Steve is completely wrong, it happens. People are acting like we do this every week. The blog has been up almost 6 months. There has never been another rumor like this posted, if you read every other post it is reporting facts/stating opinion. So Steve one time got something. Being Steve he wrote it in the most positive way (expect for the best, hope for the best). Im the opposite, I would have written it in the most negative way (expect for the worst, hope for the best.) Now the person could be lying, they could be telling Steve a tall tale knowing that Steve is a huge Rose fan and cant wait another second for him to come back. The origin source is pretty legitimate, but once again, unless you can actually speak with Rose, its just tea leaves.
-
He does have a source. Whether hes right or wrong, he is not just completely making it up. Its definitely hearsay and would not be admissible in a court of law, but Im pretty sure that is a higher standard.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) That's how things go 'viral' Make a bold f***ing statement it's gonna spread. There isn't or wasn't any credibility to this report, ever. Ive never been able to see it first hand though. With this I was able to watch the analytics as it went from basically no one, to I think about 25k hits in 3 days? People may dislike it, but this unfortunately shows that bad exciting information is better than true bland information. Why would a media company not bend the truth if the results are this insane?
-
Rock, Do you have Wisconsin beating the Zags or OSU? I actually think OSU has a pretty nice draw.
-
Youd have to ask Steve. Regardless of the reasoning, the way it spread was pretty fascinating. Basically once it hit a certain amount of people on facebook, it just kept snowballing because it seems random people just keep spreading it. Its almost like a virus.
-
j4l If steve ever gets information from a talking duck, he better run with that s*** immediately. I consider that highly credible.
-
Maybe he needs dictionary? Because unlikely does not equal no? Or is he just taking information and then using his opinion based on past/other information? Hmmm now Im starting to wonder whether any journalist actually just reports facts, or if they all mix in opinion. Interesting.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 02:09 PM) Was soxobama Steve's source? Sources close to the situation are telling me that Steve is Soxobama

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) You have no standards, so you expect everyone else to be the same way. Uh, ok. You actually are right. I really do not have any standards when it comes to free blogs on the internet.
