Its problematic what the alderman did but Volokh doesnt have any understanding of the Chicago zoning/permit process. Alderman can deny a permit for basically any reason. If they really take it to court, the Alderman's defense will likely be "Oh I just meant that the community would never support such a business." It would be entirely legal and within the Alderman's power to do that. There are maybe 5 times that a permit has been granted against an Alderman's wishes.

Just stupid. Alderman basically have complete discretion in Chicago for zoning. If he simply says "The community would not support CFA" he can deny it and its over.

I agree, Im kind of down on the Bulls, but if they were entirely healthy they had a chance to beat Miami.

Im not sure what re- imagining the past has anything to do with the Bulls prospects in the future. The Bulls lost 1-4 to the Heat 2 years ago, and last years team Heat team was better. Even if Rip has a good year left in him, hes likely not going to have much in 2 years. When you look at the Thunder/Heat, its hard to argue that the Bulls should consistently beat them. Which is why many Bulls fans want the Bulls to work on a dramatic improvement 2 years from now, so that they stay an elite team. Whether that is through trade, draft, etc, doesnt really matter. I just dont think its realistic to believe the Bulls are going to win the Championship next year.

I thought about buying a share, just so I could say funny things like: Even though Im part owner of the Green Bay Packers, I have to admit the Chicago Bears are better.
