  1. Would I be considered a bastard if I rooted for the NL to win the All Star game? Because I can't get behind that AL squad, World Series implications or not.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 05:25 AM) Cubs win. Dempster looks good as the Cubs closer. It looks like I might have f***ed up. I dropped Dempster for Tyler Walker as soon as Borowski got back. Walker's last three outings: 5/26: 0.2 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 BB 5/28: 0.2 IP, 1 ER, 2 H 5/29: 0.1 IP, 3 ER, 4 H Meanwhile, Dempster continues to impress.
  3. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 31, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) This s*** is classic... Haha, yeah. *cough cough* stalker *cough cough* There I was looking out my bedroom window, and some dork with a Depaul cap and a psychology report was spying on me on some George McFly type s***.
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 31, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) Hermy. Everett for Iguchi was a smart move. Everett usually gets the ball deep enough to score in a run. I wasn't concerned with that move at all. Leaving Marte in after the botched double play had me heated. That's what I voted for. I'm not as hard on Ozzie as most, but I definitely have a problem with his bullpen management. When Everett came in for Iguchi, I was thinking along the same lines as you are...just hit one to semi-deep to deep left, it doesn't even have to approach the warning track. Iguchi is waaay more likely to line out to an infielder or something along those lines. If people don't agree, that's fine. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong.
  5. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 31, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) There are numerous important facets to making a successful team, defense is only one of them, just like scoring. Just like you need to be able to protect the paint and pressure the ballhandler, a good team will have someone that can score consistently inside and someone that can hit the open shot, and having guys that can create their own shot help greatly in that area. You also need to handle the ball, find the open man, rebound on offense and defense, and be able to get a stop or a score in the clutch. I'd much rather take a guy that can help me in 4 or 5 of these areas than 2 or 3. I know you have a bit of a hard on for the defensive specialists, but there are many other facets to the game. Ben Wallace and Taysaun Prince are nice players, but Detroit wouldn't be there without guys that can create their shots like Hamilton and Billups, and vice versa. The really good teams can do it all. You take you stoppers and see what happens if you can't find a scorer, I'll take the scorer and try some role players to provide the D. It's a little easier to start over if it doesn't work my way than the other way around. Philosophical differences is all. As far as I can tell, superior defenders are hard to come by, and guys who have the potential to score are everywhere. You don't agree? That's fine. Those guys that excel on both ends of the court? In a 30 team league, those types of players are very, very hard to come by. In my world, you add a Ray Allen, you add a Michael Redd. Do a study on the Milwaukee Bucks or Golden State Warriors. Actually, do what I do...take the time to analyze how every team builds, or has built since like 1987 (within a reasonable time frame, whatever we have witnessed throughout the course of our lives). Teams that build with offense in mind first and foremost don't work out in the vast majority of cases. Now, to get on to a whole nother discussion...I support a defensive brand of offense. I want the high percentage shot in the paint or the wide open shot on the perimiter every time. I want superior ball control. I'm not into PGs, combo guards, or scoring SFs who play street ball, like Allen Iverson, Steve Francis, Ben Gordon, Stephon Marbury, Jamal Crawford, Antoine Walker, Big Dog Robinson, etc. As you can see, teams actually try to build around these guys, although I won't presume that you'd do the same. Great defenders are usually very smart players, naturally. They can do all the little things well, which is what you're referring to when you bring up ball control, timely passing, hitting the open man, etc. Most are unselfish, and their contributions to team chemistry are immeasurable. In the end, you value offense when I think it's easy to come by, and I value defense which you think is not that hard to come by. We see the NBA from different ends of the spectrum. I am as conservative as they come, you are clearly liberal, although not to an extreme.
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ May 31, 2005 -> 06:26 PM) There's a group that's done the same, and some would say, worse.. than HATE. If he get's banned then there should be about 12 others right behind him. I was on vacation last week, so I must have missed whatever it is that you're referring to. I'm not seeing some of the usual suspects around, like TRU, flippedoutpunk, minny, tmar, etc. Hmmm.
  7. Thoughts, by I-HATE-CREDE QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ May 31, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) Another ignorant post by a blind fan. Why don't you choke on your curly fries. Its banned, not band. A band is an ensemble of musicians. You're pretty dumb, you know? By the way, s***head, it NO ONE not KNOWONE. Still working on your GED, huh? Moron Take a valium or quaalude. The only good Cub fan is a dead Cub fan. Lets just have Crede euthanized. If only you weren't a cock-eyed optimist. Don't you have a Junior prom to go to? Hoosier Enjoy this, because you don't know what you got until HE GAWN.
  8. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 31, 2005 -> 07:41 AM) This is true, but it sure as hell seems to me he has money on the opposing teams more often than not. He makes alot of bone headed decisions more and i am not one of those people that says it after it happens. When i see something weird as hell going on i question it to see if anyone knows the answer why. More often than not he stumps everyone. I hear you. He is overly loyal, he doesn't know how to use a bullpen, and he doesn't appear to be familiar with percentages and trends. But he gets his players fired up for battle, he has the correct philosophy in place (pitching, defense, manufacturing runs), etc. In time, well, let's just hope that experience cures all.
  9. QUOTE(redandwhite @ May 31, 2005 -> 05:44 AM) Ozzie Guillen has cost the White Sox many games this season, and almost has cost this team every game this season. He has cost us many games, and yet, we still have the best record in baseball? What should we be, like 45-6? What bizarro baseball world are you living in? He has cost us almost every game, but he somehow managed to escape with a win 67% of the time? Seriously man, stop yourself.
  10. QUOTE(Billy Beane @ May 31, 2005 -> 06:28 AM) The first two months are spent finding out what you have, the next two are spent getting what you need, and the team you want plays the last two months. Whatchoo gonna do, Billy boy? These next two months ought to be very interesting.
  11. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 31, 2005 -> 06:58 AM) Dude, find a new picture already. That's like the fourth time you've used that.
  12. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 31, 2005 -> 06:38 AM) Okay guys, first off he isn't coaching anymore after this season. He has a goddamn hip problem that he can't deal with anymore. Okay, but why do I get the feeling that we'll see him coaching the Cavs before long? Why is this dude always bailing on gigs? Hip problem or not, the guy is a monumental flake.
  13. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 31, 2005 -> 06:41 AM) Sad, really... I never had you pegged for one who just agrees to disagree. You talk s*** too, so GMAFB. You come with more cheap shots than just about anyone on here, although not as many now that we don't have Bulls threads every day. Little subtle references here and there. You know what I'm saying.
  14. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 31, 2005 -> 06:36 AM) You do realize you come off as a stuck-up, egotistical asshole, right?
  15. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 31, 2005 -> 06:27 AM) You're not even making sense anymore. It's been downhill since your American dreams and bombs speech... :headshake Sleepy, don't even try to pretend as though anything I have ever said made any sense to you in the first place.
  16. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ May 31, 2005 -> 03:38 AM) I was blacked out and dont remember any of it Come on, man. Handle your f***ing liquor. :headshake
  17. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 31, 2005 -> 06:20 AM) :headshake That's the smartest, most insightful thing that you've said all week.
  18. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 31, 2005 -> 04:17 AM) you need more than one standout to make a great defense. I never said you didn't. Tyson Chandler can not cover 5 guys at the same time. If you're gonna start somewhere, start in the paint, of course.
  19. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 31, 2005 -> 04:45 AM) Who in their right mind would ever state that teams are built around one-dimensional role players? God damn it, man. Can you read? I said that you build around defense, you start with defense. How can you even argue against something that is so obvious? Sometimes, I feel like I'm speaking a foreign language on here. You can build your team around Elton Brand while I grab a Top 10 paint defender (Chandler, Ratliff) and a Top 15 perimiter defender (Hassell, Bell) for less money than that one fantasy superstar who can only get it done for you consistently on the offensive side of the court. Then we'll both build from there and see where it gets us. You don't think that my team will take yours in a playoff series? I can't talk to you, man.
  20. QUOTE(jerseysox @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) alright, i was out at an establishment that serves alcohol as its main business for the duration of this game, and i refused to read anyone's posts as to not have my opinion tainted, and here are my unadulterated thoughts on today's nightmare, point by point: 1. Buehrle is left in to start the 9th. OK. This is fine. He was in command in the 8th, and had quite the nice little pitch count. If he gets in any trouble, you've got a guy who hasn't allowed a run all season behind him. No problem with this at all. 2. Buerhle allows a leadoff single. Time to bring in the AL's best reliever. He hasn't allowed a run all....wait....what? He's staying in? Why? 3. Buehrle gets an out, and allows another single. Ahh, I see Ozzie walking toward the mound. Thank god. Dusty can get two...wait, why did he touch his left arm? Why is Marte...NOOOOOOO!!!!! Worst, move, ever. I know, I know, he induced a grounder that COULD have ended the game, but of course, after one batter, it's bases loaded and one out. 4. Ozzie leaves Marte in to face Quinlan. Nothing else to say here but f***ING AWFUL. Marte has proven time and time again he can't get it done in tight spots in late innings. Just can't. Never mind against a right-handed hitter. This is the point where you absolutely can't do anything except bring in Hermanson. Hermanson, if I haven't mentioned it yet, HASN'T ALLOWED A RUN!!!! GOD!!!! So of course, Quinlan singles, tie game. 5. Marte, of course, walks in the go-ahead run. Now, at this point, it's a complete clusterf***. Finley is up, the lead is gone, so you might as well leave him in for Finley. And he gets him. Great. 6. With 2nd and 3rd and one out, Everett pinch hits for Iguchi. Now, I was at a bar, and blindly furious and slightly inebriated at this point, but did I miss something here? Was Iguchi hurt? Was he replaced earlier? Why in the lord of f*** and ass would a guy who is hitting .300 be replaced with HOT CARL? It makes no f'ing sense. 7. Timo is left in to face Shields with AJ available. Now, Timo does drive in the winning runs, but could the hit have been luckier? The guy hasn't had a good swing since the Clinton administration, and you leave him in for this? So furious!!! In the end, I have never been more pissed off after a dramatic win in my life. Never. Ozzie needs to come to the conclusion that there is more to managing then lefty vs. righty and righty vs. lefty matchups. It's insane. I hated the guy last year because he did this stuff constantly, and I find it ironic on the day he gets an extension through 2008 (nothing like showing loyalty to this guy after TWO MONTHS of good managing) that he shows his true colors. Bobby Valentine never overmanaged like this. Alright, now that the blood has stopped pouring from eyes, I shall stop typing. Have a swell night kids. Great post, dude. Welcome to soxtalk.
  21. Nice one. However, cocaine is a rich man's drug. Somehow, I get the feeling that soxman ain't raking in the dough. Ace is the place for all your sniffing needs.
  22. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 31, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) Frank "f***ing" Thomas 10th all-time in OPS and future HOF
  23. QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ May 31, 2005 -> 12:00 AM) Hell I work 16-18 hours a day
  24. Willie has the best avatar on this entire site, no question. BTW, you don't like Frank, that's fine. But the only people I know who refer to Frank as "Big Skirt" are Cubs fans, and that's mostly out of jealousy. As for me, I could never talk s*** about a guy with a Top 10 OPS in the history of the major leagues, let alone a guy who is on the team that I've been rooting for since before I can remember.
