  1. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 13, 2005 -> 03:49 AM) The first-team was about what I had in mind, and Hughes doesn't gamble as much as some people want to say... Hinrich isn't an elite defender, plain and simple. I'm a Hinrich fan, and he's a good team defender, but just about any top-tier guard can take him one-on-one. Wade's quickness and strength make him a good defender, contrary to this board's opinions, but I also was not expecting to see him make it. Kidd was injured. That didn't make sense... Hughes and Wade are nothing special. They'll never be known as good defensive players. There's no upside. They're competent, that's it. If you're capable of scoring 20+ points per game, mere competence on D is good enough. Hinrich is an above average defender. I admire his work ethic. However, you can forget about 1st or 2nd team defense. Well, actually, as long as we have a bunch of motherf***ing retards voting on this s***, maybe you will see his name mentioned at some point.
  2. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 13, 2005 -> 03:42 AM) I have a problem with one of the biggest gamblers in the nba making first team all defensive but what you gonna do. I have a huge problem with Larry Hughes being on there.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 11, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) Are you still in Norridge? My godfather lives on Pontiac. And other Serbian friends of ours. Yep. The Norridge Newsletter recently had a section that said nearly 70% of the population here is Polish-speaking. The average brick house goes for between $425,000 and $450,000, as opposed to around $225,000 to $250,000 back in 1998. There's a nice little 100% increase for you.
  4. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 11, 2005 -> 07:08 PM) NHL 94 on Sega Period. NHL 92 is perhaps my favorite Sega game, up there with Shining Force.
  5. QUOTE(rangercal @ May 11, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) so you live by the hip now? Yep. You couldn't pay me enough money to go to that mall, though. That place is a f***ing zoo. Ever since they closed down the Brickyard (gangbanger central), all of the lowlives needed to find a new place to shop. That would be the Harlem & Irving Plaza.
  6. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 11, 2005 -> 05:38 PM) Where did I say hitting parks dont help batting avg's??? Dont be salty cause you were wrong, its ok. Several teams who play in "pitching parks" have high batting avg's as well. Their power numbers arent that great, but the BA stays the same. And .276 is ALOT different from .300, if you would like me to post the link with the current rankings of stats by team, I could do that for you. Actually, you're right. DBAHO said that KC was a pitchers park...it was my understanding that it's a hitters park. Hmmm.
  7. I'm 26, I grew up in Chicago off of Addison and Central, I moved to Niles off of Milwaukee and Oakton when I was 18, and then I moved to Norridge (two blocks from the Harlem & Irving Plaza) when I was 23. Basically, I've been completely surrounded by Polish people all of my life. My best buddies are Polish.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 11, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) ehem, actually its .276, and they are 5th. They're hitting .321 as a team at home. Last I checked, they were hitting .300 overall. Looks like they've had a team-wide slump over the past week or so. But that's besides the point. You thought that hitting parks don't help batting averages. That's pretty sad, buddy.
  9. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ May 10, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) If this was 3 years ago yes. Wagner is getting up there in age and he's not worth Sweeney or Anderson. Wagner is 33 years old. His numbers through May 11: 14 IP 0.63 ERA 0.70 WHIP .160 BAA He's a Top 5 closer for sure, and IMO Top 3 along with Nathan and Gagne. He isn't worth Sweeney or Anderson? Yeah, right.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 11, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) that had something to do with his batting avg???? The Rockies are hitting .300 as a team. You don't think Coors has anything to do with that? What are they, the greatest hitting team of the last half century?
  11. Nintendo: Skate Or Die Excitebike Castlevania Trilogy
  12. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 10, 2005 -> 02:29 AM) Dap I use that phrase all the time! That phrase is soooo 1995. I haven't heard anyone use it in quite some time. It's NY underground hip hop slang, of course.
  13. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ May 9, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) i like the d-rays and how they play, not many balls are going to get past their team in the outfield, they are a quick team, we however should slaughter their pitching and put pressure on their defense Yep, it's just too bad that their pitching staff has allowed 50 HR on the season already. You can't catch the ball it if it's waaay the f*** over your head.
  14. QUOTE(soxman35 @ May 9, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) we dont need Frank I rather have Carl in there hes proved himself to me. Frank i think is getting old and washed up and is pritty negative towards the team. when he is playing. I think if he comes back for a couple of game we are going to start losing and ozzy is going to get pissed take him out and then we will start our winning streak again. It would be different if he was completely over the hill, but he had an 1.100 OPS at the end of May last year. Seriously though, with your track record, NOBODY takes your baseball thoughts seriously anyway.
  15. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ May 9, 2005 -> 07:46 AM) Just a hunch, but Buehrle won't come close to winning a Cy Young with Johan Santana in the American League. That and Buehrle is not an ace pitcher and you don't win Cy Youngs with ERAs like 4.14, 3.89 or even 3.58. Highest ERAs for Cy Young Award Winners: 1. Lamarr Hoyt 3.66 ERA, 1983 White Sox 2. Roger Clemens 3.51 ERA, 2001 Yankees 3. Jack McDowell 3.37 ERA, 1993 White Sox 4. Pete Vuckovich 3.34 ERA, 1982 Brewers 5. Roy Halladay 3.25 ERA, 2003 Blue Jays 6. Steve Stone 3.23 ERA, 1980 Orioles 7. Pat Hentgen 3.22 ERA, 1996 Blue Jays 8. Whitey Ford 3.21 ERA, 1961 Yankees 9. Early Wynn 3.17 ERA 1959 White Sox 10. Jim Lonborg 3.16 ERA, 1957 Red Sox No representatives from the NL. Steve Carlton has the highest ERA at 3.10. If Mark can keep his ERA at around 3.40 with 20+ wins, he definitely has a shot. He might not be a total stud SP like Jason Schmidt, Johan Santana, etc, but he's damn near ace-caliber.
  16. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 9, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) Finally Pall is gone. Nothing personal against the guy, he just wasn't that good in the booth. He's one of the worst that I've ever heard. I'd honestly rather have Ron Santo or Joe Carter. Nothing personal, of course.
  17. I'm happy that we get to avoid Halladay in this series. David Bush, who was supposed to be the up-and-coming guy on that staff before the season started, has been inconsistent. Lilly hasn't had a quality start since April 10...he's been getting murdered. Chacin, who we'll see in Game 3, has kicked ass thus far, but we get to answer him with Buehrle.
  18. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 6, 2005 -> 05:39 AM) And Minnesota will likely be one of the favorites going into the 05 season to win the NFC. I've been hearing that a lot, but the NFL (as opposed to the three other major sports) is crazy in that it takes guys until like mid-season to gel. There are various reasons, most notably the fact that there is only one game per week, but also the insane amount of roster turnover from year to year. The Vikings got a s***load of new guys, especially on defense. There are a ton of question marks. You have to kinda wait and see. I'm not ready to call them a lock for division winner, and I ain't a Bears homer either. I'll give credit where it's due.
  19. QUOTE(Spiff @ May 6, 2005 -> 05:04 AM) And oh by the way, who's calling Antoine value-less now? 13 of 22 in 4th/OT. I'd rather have him than Jermaine-I-shut-down-in-the-clutch-O'Neal. f***in retards. So what? I've seen Rex f***ing Chapman go off for a s***load of points in the clutch, along with like a million other guys. It happens. We've already gone over the many reasons as to why Antoine Walker is a sucker. One game ain't gonna change s***. When you say that Antoine is more valuable than Jermaine O'Neal, that you ain't talking. It's the Jack Daniels.
  20. QUOTE(Bighurt52235 @ May 6, 2005 -> 05:03 AM) Internet slang is still a turn-off to me. How about you bless us with some of your Oregon slang? Dude, you just got pwned.
  21. QUOTE(rangercal @ May 6, 2005 -> 04:12 AM) derrick brooks?! you must be kidding? I know, it sounds too good to be true. It probably is. We're gonna need to bring in another LB, though. Derrick has a great relationship with both Lovie and Angelo, and the Bucs wanna get rid of him, so the speculation makes sense.
  22. We have what it takes to be a Top 5 defensive team in the NFL. You don't have to be a Bears fan to know that. We're freaking stacked on D, and we have the running game to keep dudes well-rested. We're gonna put some heads to bed this year. I'm not in NFL mode as of yet, but aren't we looking to acquire an LB this summer? I've read a few things here and there, but I'm probably one of the least qualified people on here to discuss rumors and what not. I've heard some thangs about Derrick Brooks? Regardless, the defense as is: DE: Alex Brown, Michael Haynes DT: Tommie Harris DT: Tank Johnson, Alfonso Boone DE: Adewale Ogunleye LB: Lance Briggs MLB: Brian Urlacher LB: CB: Charles Tillman FS: Mike Brown SS: Mike Green, Bobby Gray CB: Jerry Azumah, Nathan Vasher I can't f***ing wait. :salivating
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) Well they have pitched him in every key late game situation in the last almost 2 weeks now, so yes I'm sure.
  24. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:15 PM) Expect them to get Clemens and/or Jason Schmidt simply by giving cash back to the other teams. It ain't that simple, dude. The Giants are gonna be like "Here, you can just have Schmidt for some crap prospect as long as you take on his salary". Clemens is gonna be like "Yep, that's precisely where I wanna go."
  25. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) I am willing to bet $1.00 that some stupid owner will trade them a great player simply in exchange of cash and some dumb prospect My first guess would be Roger Clemens. Second guess is Jason Schmidt. And again, they will be in the playoffs. It happens every year. Just look at what they have given up in the past. 1. Alex Rodriguez Yankees $25,705,118 2. Barry Bonds Giants $22,000,000 3. Manny Ramirez Red Sox $19,806,820 4. Derek Jeter Yankees $19,600,000 5. Mike Mussina Yankees $19,000,000 6. Roger Clemens Astros $18,000,022 7. Jeff Bagwell Astros $18,000,000 8. Sammy Sosa Orioles $17,875,000 9. Mike Piazza Mets $16,071,429 10. Chipper Jones Braves $16,008,539 11. Kevin Brown Yankees $15,714,286 12. Randy Johnson Yankees $15,419,815 13. Chan Ho Park Rangers $15,000,000 14. Curt Schilling Red Sox $14,500,000 15. Mike Hampton Braves $13,503,543 16. Jason Giambi Yankees $13,428,571 17. Jim Thome Phillies $13,166,667 18. Bobby Abreu Phillies $13,100,000 19. Andruw Jones Braves $ 13,000,000 20. Larry Walker Cardinals $12,666,667 21. Todd Helton Rockies $12,600,000 22. Ichiro Suzuki Mariners $12,529,000 23. Vladimir Guerrero Angels $12,500,000 23.(t) Preston Wilson Rockies $12,500,000 25. Bernie Williams Yankees $12,357,143 26. Carlos Beltran Mets $11,571,429 27. Gary Sheffield Yankees $11,496,689 28. Adrian Beltre Mariners $11,400,000 28. (t) Darren Dreifort Dodgers $11,400,000 30. Jorge Posada Yankees $11,000,000 30. (t) Albert Pujols Cardinals $11,000,000 30. (t) Mike Sweeney Royals $11,000,000 30. (t) Javier Vazquez Diamondbacks $11,000,000 34. Pedro Martinez Mets $10,875,000 35. Miguel Tejada Orioles $10,781,206 36. Tom Glavine Mets $10,765,608 37. Scott Rolen Cardinals $10,715,509 38. Jason Kendall Athletics $10,571,429 39. Lance Berkman Astros $10,500,000 39. (t) Roy Halladay Blue Jays $10,500,000 39. (t) Mariano Rivera Yankees $10,500,000 52. Carl Pavano Yankees $9,000,000 74. Hideki Matsui $8,000,000 9 in the Top 30, 10 in the Top 40, and 12 in the Top 75. $175 million altogether for these 12 players (minus what former teams are paying Randy Johnson, Alex Rodriguez, etc). That is their 12 man core. Deals where they took on a huge chunk of salary: Kevin Brown (for Jeff Weaver, two prospects) Randy Johnson (for Javier Vazquez, Brad Halsey, etc) Alex Rodriguez (for Alfonso Soriano) Free agent acquisitions: Mike Mussina (free agent) Gary Sheffield (free agent) Jason Giambi (free agent) Hideki Matsui (free agent) Carl Pavano (free agent) Homegrown players: Derek Jeter (homegrown) Jorge Posada (homegrown) Bernie Williams (homegrown) Mariano Rivera (homegrown) Recent History (5 Years): Javier Vazquez (for Nick Johnson, etc) Esteban Loaiza (for Jose Contreras) David Wells (free agent) Jose Contreras (free agent) So while they have taken on huge salaries in A-Rod, Randy Johnson, and Kevin Brown, they haven't exactly gotten away with giving up crap prospects for them exclusively (Soriano, Vazquez, Johnson, etc). And I can't see them pulling a heist for a young ace-caliber pitcher like Jason Schmidt. San Francisco isn't Montreal...why would they do that? And from what I've observed, there is no way in hell that Roger Clemens would want to go back there.
