QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ May 5, 2005 -> 08:27 PM) yeah but Shingo's ERA is tiny ever since that Cle game, no? He has allowed 3 runs in 6 innings since then, a 4.50 ERA. -
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 5, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) Is Atl that stupid? They need something in the paint. Anything, actually. ATL's cap situation: http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries/atlanta.htm Kwame Brown, retard that he is, still has a chance to become a 20 point per game threat in the paint. That, along with the #1 overall pick (Bogut), plus what they already have in Harrington/Childress/Smith, in addition to some free agent PG and some more depth down low will make the Hawks a promising futures team along with Charlotte and Orlando (the latter depending on what they get for Francis). But make no mistake about it, I don't want Kwame on my team.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) I'll say if you are relying on either of these guys for saves you are a longshot to win your fantasy league. At the time, this was right on the money. But since April 24, Turnbow's stats: 4 Saves 3 Wins 2 hits allowed in 11 innings Unbelievable. You knew that a couple guys would emerge this year. Last year, you had Kolb, Cordero, etc. This year, Turnbow and Lyon are coming on strong.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 5, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) Turnbow picks up the win on a walkoff "Little Flipper" by Carlos Lee. Yes indeed, 2nd straight win for Turnbow against the Cubs. Seriously, this guy is turning into a fantasy monster. He now has 3 wins and 4 saves since he became the closer on April 24. Yes, not even two weeks ago.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 5, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) Dude, he hasn't allowed a hit in 10 straight innings now, since April 12. That's insane. Well, looks like I jinxed him. Two outs in the bottom of the 9th, 5-4 Milwaukee, and Aramis Ramirez hits a solo shot. Blown Save numero uno, and first hit allowed since April 12. Oh well, I guess that the dude is human.

QUOTE(rangercal @ May 5, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) I guess we all have turnbow? picked up a save and a win for me the last 2 days Dude, he hasn't allowed a hit in 10 straight innings now, since April 12. That's insane.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 4, 2005 -> 07:04 PM) Ok, victor santos is due up for me against the cubbies... Hopefully he can break this fogg-glavine curse... It's like the damn 5th starter spot from last year's Sox for me...I can't get a break... I hope he kicks ass so that Turnbow can get another save for me. Things are starting to look up for the Brew crew. Their current squad is doing well, and they have like 4 or 5 mega prospects on the way. The bullpen, which I thought would be somewhat of a weakness, has looked good. Sheets/Davis/Santos is looking like a pretty nice 1-2-3 thus far. But then again, Santos could get murdered from here on out. Same with Turnbow. It's hard to evaluate that team.

Antoine Walker will turn 29 this summer. He has been in the NBA for NINE SEASONS (count 'em). I have seen enough Walker action to make me puke. To say that he is a much different player than he used to be is definitely a stretch. He still prefers to hog the ball, he'll never meet a shot that he doesn't like, and he can't play defense for s***. To say that this will change or has suddenly changed borders on absurd, as he's been in the league for sooo freaking long already. Everything is out there. He's peaking, this is it. So he's not shooting as many 3s from like 25 feet out...I salute the man. -

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 4, 2005 -> 07:05 AM) You can't argue against Myers unless you argue against Garland. Both were beneath their potential until great starts this year I hear that, but Myers performed at a level waaay below his potential last year with the second worst ERA in the major leagues among guys who threw at least 150 innings. You can begin to understand why I'd object to his presence in a Top 15 list. -

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ May 4, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) As of today I believe that Mark is tied with Zito for the most wins on that list. They're both at the cut-off age of 26, so naturally, they're gonna have more wins that dudes in their early twenties. -

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 4, 2005 -> 06:04 AM) Perez has a career 102 era+ because a 4.00 career era @ dodgers stadium is not overly impressive at all. He is also very inconsistent. You don't know what you are gonna get from him year in year out. Penny has not been overally impressive throughout his career but i think we will see him in the 3.30 era range this year ( if healthy). Pineiro also needs to stay healthy because if he does he is at the very top of the list of ''young pitchers'' Grienke not being on the list is moronic. Odalis definitely sucked in 2003, but I think that he's finally started to turn the corner in terms of consistency. 2004: 196 IP 3.25 ERA 1.14 WHIP 2005: 30 IP 3.64 ERA 1.08 WHIP In 2004, he kept his ERA at 3.75 or better against every team that he went up against other than Anaheim, Montreal, and San Diego (5 starts combined). But you never know, he could get hammered this summer if he reverts back to his 2003 form. EDIT: 4.50 ERA against the Diamondbacks in 4 starts. 2004 road numbers -

I love Mark, but there is no way he should rank higher than Sheets, Zambrano, Peavy, Beckett, and Prior. I noticed that the cut-off point is 26 years of age. Extending it to 27 would have been smart, what with Roy Oswalt, Roy Halladay, Mark Mulder, and Odalis Perez. Cliff Lee? That's pretty funny. How are you gonna put that guy ahead of people like Brad Penny, Joel Pineiro, Zack Greinke, and even some of the new jacks like Scott Kazmir, Gustavo Chacin, and Dan Haren? #14 Overall Brett Myers had a 5.50 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP last year. I don't care how home run happy Citizens Bank Park is. He had a 5.33 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP on the road. He's got a ton of potential, but he ain't no Top 15. -
QUOTE(DABearSoX @ May 4, 2005 -> 05:06 AM) Gotta say.....I called the gooch HR tonight at the game.....so glad to be there for his first MLB HOMERUN You probably call a Gooch homer every time he steps up to the plate. Am I right?

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 4, 2005 -> 04:09 AM) Maybe it is because of the celtic fans who make him out to be magic johnson? I actually saw people say they thought he could average a triple double in atlanta, because he is just that good. I have seen a couple magazines that projected in the 24 points, ten rebounds, seven assists range too. That is what i call overating someone. On the other hand, I've seen him labeled as a pig in feces (Atlanta). -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ May 4, 2005 -> 04:05 AM) I'm not saying he is a great player, but I don't understand how a player that is ripped on by everyone and is considered to be overrated by everyone can actually be overrated. In order to be overrated it makes sense that you would have to be thought of highly in the first place. He's overrated because he puts up huge numbers on offense, but he's not a winner. As qwerty stated, his FG%, FT%, and 3PT% in addition to his ball-hogging tendencies and absolutely atrocious defense (and not to mention a max contract) make him pretty much the last player that I'd ever want on my team in the entire NBA. Seriously. -
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 4, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) I guess dropping fogg and picking up glavine to start tonight was a horrible idea too... s*** Ouch. I've been watching Glavine, and he's been unfortunate to say the least. I'm in soxtalk league 3 (12 teams). There are a lot of starters available that I'd like to either own or take a chance on. You can't say the same for any position on offense...the cupboard is completely dry outside of some Rockies sleepers. Guys that I would pick up right now if I had room: John Patterson Matt Morris (ignoring 04 splits) Joel Pineiro (ignoring 04 splits) Erik Bedard Guys that I'd be willing to take a chance on: Ryan Franklin 1.17 WHIP Victor Santos 1.01 WHIP Aaron Heilman 1.16 WHIP Joe Blanton 1.15 WHIP David Bush 1.21 WHIP

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 2, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) I've actually decided to pick up Benitez in league #1 for Bob Wickman. I'll stash him on the DL spot, and hopefully he'll be back in 4 months, plus Wickman has no almost no saves so far, and has been pretty worthless. Oh and I'm already 8 games out in front. W00t. I'd have kept him if soxtalk leagues had more than one DL spot. As it is now, I have Lance Berkman, Frank Thomas, and Guillermo Mota on the DL. Keeping Benitez would have f***ed me up in the short term.

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 2, 2005 -> 08:32 AM) So many magazines and ''fantasy experts'' had martinez at the top of their lists of fantasy busts, or in other words players to stay away from. They figured he would be the number one catcher taken in the draft and not even be close to living up to it. I have seen a few times '' if you draft martinez you are a sucker and gonna regret it''. You could say they hit that right on the button thus far. Yep, I definitely feel like a sucker. I think I was brainwashed for a few years by his "super prospect" status, though. Then he had a pretty good year in 2004, so I figured (along with just about everyone else) that he was on his way. He was my 6th overall pick, and Benitez was my 5th. Both are gone. Fortunately, I've offset those bad picks with free agent acquistions like Clint Barmes, Gustavo Chacin, Dan Haren, Cliff Floyd, Derrick Turnbow, the trade for Guillermo Mota and Brandon Inge, etc. I'd also mention Jason Lane, but he's been in a serious funk. I'm getting ready to drop him for Brad Hawpe or someone. OMG, Cliff Floyd
