  1. Hey Jim, whatchoo been up to????
  2. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 3, 2005 -> 03:06 AM) Actually, he was 1-1 with a 2.45 era and 14 k's before tonight. He's been serviceable, but now I have to search the waivers... Not much is available in a 16-team league. :banghead How about John Patterson, Erik Bedard, Scott Kazmir, etc? Are all of these dudes taken? I want Patterson, but I have three guys on the DL, and only one DL spot. I'm kinda pissed that there's only one DL spot in soxtalk leagues. It doesn't make much sense.
  3. Ben Wallace is the motherf***ing man. Congratulations, big guy.
  4. I'm not really feeling the Mavs, mostly because of the insane amount of roster turnover in the past two years, and the fact that they're a below average to average defensive squad. I'm leaning towards below average. But I love to watch Dirk.
  5. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 3, 2005 -> 04:10 AM) Damn Hammerhead, The Color of Money without The Hustler? The latter is at least as good, and in my opinion far superior. I find myself quoting that one much more. I don't think that the three major roles could be cast any better than Paul Newman, Jackie Gleason, and George C. Scott. I'm definitely looking to add that one to my humble collection. I love Paul Newman.
  6. QUOTE(marsh @ May 2, 2005 -> 06:30 PM) 29. Kansas City Royals (7-18) – They've had some injury problems (third baseman Mark Teahen, for example). They're in jeopardy of finishing with the worst record in the majors. 30. Colorado Rockies (6-16) – The Rockies are trying to find a way to win. They do have some young talent in shortstop Clint Barmes (.417), outfielder Brad Hawpe (.396, four homers) and third baseman Garrett Atkins (.357). But you know you're in trouble when Jamey Wright (1-2, 6.85) and Jason Jennings (1-3, 4.55) are leading your pitching staff. The Rockies would probably sweep the Royals. Interesting column, though.
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ May 2, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) I said that makes it ok...?? Can you quote that for me.. I can't seem to find it. Yeah, I know. I'm just trying to bust on Wil Cordero. Are you positive that he didn't get a few upper-cuts and roundhouse punches in after he launched the telephone at her? A lot was made of his wife-beating adventures at the time, although I can't recall all of the specifics. Either way, the guy is a complete lowlife.
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ May 2, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) Eh.. eh threw a phone at her. Oh okay, I guess that makes it alright then.
  9. I'd send Wil Cordero, wife-beater extraordinare. For one to be a successful fighter, one must have experience. We all know that Wil has plenty of that.
  10. QUOTE(3E8 @ May 2, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) Whatever happened to Ozzie the Airdale? That guy was such a schmuck.
  11. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 2, 2005 -> 06:49 AM) Why did Brando get banned anyway? I musta missed it. He said some type s*** to critic. It was beyond ugly. He also came back with different usernames a few times while he was suspended, and thus he was banned forever.
  12. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 2, 2005 -> 06:24 AM) Nah. Demolition Man was a better movie of his. I think the futuristic police killed that movie for me, especially when they're singing that armour hot dog bulls***? Wesley was cool, though.
  13. QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ May 2, 2005 -> 06:39 AM) Let's let the mudsling begin. Before calling me f***ing ignorant learn how to read. I believe I said, JG has a good chance to win 20 because of the competition. I did not discredit his success. If you believe he will end the year with an ERA less than 2 than you are either taking too much or not enough of whatever it is that you are on. Jon is succeeding this year because he has been able to keep his walks down and throw strikes. With that said, throughout the year he will on average be facing the 4, 5, and 1 starters. Facing the 4 and 5 starters will allow JG to get run support (specifically early run support) allowing him to pitch from leads. Garland over the last three years has shown that he is a "tempermental" person, and definately works better when he is in the lead. With all that said, I believe and that Jon will continue to do what he's started this year doing: throwing strikes, limiting walks, getting groundball outs, and locating his breaking balls. Keeping to this will allow him to work deep into games and give the Sox the abililty to win when he starts. So if you really want to call me ignorant go right ahead. But before you do you best make sure that you learn to read, or were those words to big for you? Nice. Way to take it to that fake tough guy (best pesci voice).
  14. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 2, 2005 -> 06:29 AM) To the ignorant poster who said JG's success has a lot to do with the fact that he is our #5 and hence facing the other team's #5, here are some facts you are ignoring: Jon's ERA is less than 2. So it is not like he is getting lit up for runs, and still winning becoz the opponent pitcher is also getting lit up. He has 2 CG shut outs....which is a great reflection of not only his ERA but also of the fact that he is keeping our BP fresh for when they are needed. He has not faced only the 5th starters in all of his 5 wins. Okay, but he's still facing end of the rotation pitchers in the vast majority of his starts. That doesn't make K-Dub ignorant. He listed a bunch of 5th starters in the AL, that's fine. Garland will go up against quite a few of those dudes. And once again, expect a 3.50 ERA or worse over the course of a full season. The guy is on fire right now, but that ain't gonna last forever.
  15. QUOTE(knightni @ May 2, 2005 -> 06:22 AM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?ac...ndpost&p=391624 I dunno why, but sometimes I miss Brando... I mean, that thread is pure comedy. Judy got molested? Holy s***, put that dude down as hater extraordinare.
  16. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 2, 2005 -> 06:14 AM) always bet on black Wesley Snipes, Passenger 57. Decent movie, I'll watch it if nothing else is on. I like the one goon.
  17. QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ May 2, 2005 -> 05:55 AM) That is one hell of a joint in your sig. That has to be at least a 3 grammer! Yeah, but Bob had to compensate for the lack of potency. You know that's some homegrown dank.
  18. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 2, 2005 -> 05:53 AM) You quoted me when you called bulls***. Well, I definitely wasn't referring to your post. I was just explaining my original point in greater detail. Pitchers do face pitchers. You said that you don't need any run support if you're tossing shutouts, which is 100% correct, but Garland ain't Hershiser. This won't last. If he finishes with a 3.50 ERA on the season, I'll be ecstatic.
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 2, 2005 -> 05:41 AM) Wait. I said you don't need much run support when you pitch shutouts and you call bulls***? What's bulls*** about that? By definition you only "need" one run per game of run support. I called bulls*** on what nitetrain said. He stated that pitchers don't face pitchers.
  20. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ May 2, 2005 -> 05:23 AM) I hate it the way they ruin all the movies we liked as kids. Like those remakes of the disney movies that have none of the original actors. Word up, Jeckle.
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 2, 2005 -> 05:00 AM) You don't need a whole lot of run support when you pitch shutouts. Right on, but he's saying that Garland is only facing the opposition's batting order, and not the pitcher. While this is an interesting theory, I'm gonna go ahead and call bulls*** on that. If run support ain't one hell of a psychological boost, I dunno what is. And yeah, while Garland may act cool and front like nothing in the world bothers him, we all know that the dude is human.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 2, 2005 -> 04:52 AM) Silva should provide an ERA of around 4 and win about 13 to 15 games, which is really pretty damn good for a #3 starter, especially in the AL. I think that he can turn things around because he definitely has solid control, but these splits are pretty bad: 2003 Post ASB: .317 BAA, 1.59 WHIP 2004 Pre ASB: .318 BAA, 1.48 WHIP 2004 Post ASB: .300 BAA, 1.37 WHIP In 6 starts against the Sox, he has a 5.71 ERA, a 1.44 WHIP, and a .312 BAA. EDIT: And this is with a good defensive squad behind him.
  23. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 2, 2005 -> 04:45 AM) Also, I didn't know Garland was facing the pitcher. I didn't know the White Sox were in the NL. I'm pretty sure he faces the batting order those teams have to offer. Well, he's talking in terms of run support. When Buehrle faces Santana, Radke, Sabathia, or Greinke, he ain't getting much run support. Now, Garland on the other hand? I don't have the statistics handy, and Garland doesn't exactly need any run support for the time being, but how many runs have we averaged per game for Garland thus far, and how does that figure compare to the rest of our starters? Actually, can anyone recommend a site where one can look these things up?
