5/26 White Sox vs. Rangers Game Thread

Does anyone know what the all time record is for consecutive strikeouts by a hitter? Rob Deer probably holds that record, I'm assuming. -

Maybe you misunderstood, or maybe I don't understand what you're saying here, but I wasn't cutting down Elton Brand. In fact, I absolutely love Elton Brand. Him and Ron Artest are my favorite players in the NBA. Brand averaged 5 blocks per game over the final quarter of the season, not to mention 20+ points per and 10+ rebounds per on the season. And his shooting percentage? Forget about it. So therefore, Elton Brand? One of the top 3 or 4 power forwards in the league? Brad Miller? Can you say 2 time all star since he left the Bulls? Ron Artest? Defensive player of the year? Bruce Bowen? Second only to Artest in terms of Perimeter D? Trenton Hassell? Garnett's defensive MVP award winner? -
Joaquin Benoit will start in Chan Ho Park's place. Chan Ho has been having some issues with his back. We saw Benoit last year. He allowed 5 runs in 7 innings pitched out of the bullpen. Right handed hitters are batting .290 against him this year.

A big time scoring #3 would be nice to have. We could use a defensive-minded player at the #2 slot. You know, someone like Bruce Bowen, Trenton Hassell, or Ron Artest. Oops! We had all of these guys. We had Bowen back in 2000, although he didn't make the cut. And now Sam Smith is calling these guys the three best perimeter defenders in the league. Elton Brand Brad Miller Don't even get me started on Williams, Fizer, etc. -
Caller: I've been going to these half-price games since 1999. This is nothing new. I mean, maybe it's a little bit worse, but not really. Cubs fans, please don't wear your Cubs outfits to the games, for the love of God. Mulligan: I saw plenty of Sox fans wearing Sox gear at Cubs games, and nobody was saying anything to them. Boers: If you see someone in a Cubs shirt at a Sox game and they aren't bothering anyone, shut up. Next Caller: This is the last ever half-price game that'll I'll ever attend. I'm 51 years old, and it's simply not worth it. There were three separate altercations last night in the right field section on the first base side, and it's absolutley ridiculous that these young men can't come out to the games without making fools of themselves. I was absolutely embarassed because my son had to listen to f bomb after f bomb after f bomb. Gene Lamont will be on shortly to weigh in on this matter.

More score material: Caller: It's obnoxious. It's like the Jerry Springer show over there. I was there last night with my kids. Most of the drunks were between the ages of 21 and 25. Anybody wearing a Cubs shirt gets harassed, ridiculed, etc. They get beers thrown on them, etc, etc. We need to do away with the half-price nights. Boers: Sox fans just can't win, can they? Mulligan: You have to feel bad for them, because it's just a few idiots out to make clowns of themselves. Boers: It's sort of like the Score, isn't it? Hahahhahahahahaaaa!!!!!
-
Excerpt that I just heard on the score: Mike Mulligan: They're a gang of idiots over there. It's like the Fight Club. Terry Boers: Yeah, it's like the Score Christmas Parties. Hahahahhahaaa!! Terry Boers: That's why I don't go, because I'm not a fighting man. about a second later: Terry Boers: I don't know what I'm talking about, either. In my best Hawk voice: I loooove Terry Boers.

Well, that sucks. I was hoping that the Sox would put up a 20 spot tonight.

You guys know so much more about the Beatles than I do. It's not even funny. My dad, however, is on the same level as you guys. Maybe I'll ask him to stop by. He has something like 75 different Beatles books. It's insane!

Yeah, right. We're talking about one of the greatest defensive units of all time, right up there with the 70s Steelers, 70s Cowboys, 70s Vikings, etc. The Patriots managed just 7 team rushing yards in the super bowl No, that's not a typo Show me another team that has ever done anything like that in a super bowl. RIP Danny Boy. -
I remember He was wearing a white t-shirt.

And that's where my hatred for the Redskins comes into play. The curse Of Wilber Marshall. Sorry if my Dolphins post was out of line I'll always maintain that it's not the fans, but the cocky swagger of that 1972 team & the fact that they always throw a party whenever an undefeated team with say, a minimum of 8 wins finally loses. It just rubs me the wrong way. Larry Csonka was the man, however. I have this "NFL Crunchtime" tape with close to 10 minutes worth of Larry Csonka highlights. It's almost all head-on collisions and pure beef, as the name of the film would suggest. -
That guy is the absolute worst. I would love to have that 2000 game on tape. I doubt that I'll ever witness anything like it again. What really pissed me off at the time was FSN refusing to air it again in the early morning hours. I read that Juan Encarnacion was dishing out cheap shots left and right. I didn't notice, of course, as there were like a million other things going on. What a complete bozo that guy is. I'd like to watch Frank trying to break up all of those fights in slow motion. I want to go back and see the look on Bob Howry's face when Todd Jones came charging after him. He kind of used Mark Johnson as a shield, if I'm not mistaken. Man, I wish I had that on tape.

I wasn't going to say anything at first, but.... I hate the Dolphins with a passion. The 85 Bears were 12-0 going into that muggy hellhole, and they ruined the perfect season for us. And what's worse? All of those 1972 assholes partied hard at our expense :fyou Take your 1972 season and shove it :fyou Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. No offense to Dolphins fans. -
Excellent article! I enjoyed this one immensely in the Sunday Sun Times. My favorite 2004 Sox article thus far.

Proposed Deal from a Cubbune Writer..
hammerhead johnson replied to JoshPR's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Naah, it wouldn't. Zambrano: WHIP: 0.92 (38 hits and 14 walks in 56 IP) ERA: 2.08 OPPONENTS BA FOR RH: .175 OPPONENTS BA FOR LH: .206 OVERALL OPPONENTS BA: .190 K/9IP: 8 2 HR allowed in 56 IP When Prior and Wood get back, that is the foremost world series contender in the sport. Looks like Seaver/Ryan/Koosman type s*** to me. I'm jealous. Seriously. And Clement's WHIP ratio is 1.06? He is hands down the best 4th starter in all of baseball. So, basically, if I were the Cubs GM, and you offered me Jeremy Reed and Maggs for Zambrano, I would absolutely laugh my ass off. And you think that's too much??? Well, that's why we haven't won a world series since 1917. Although you should be given a free pass as you are the foremost Jeremy Reed fan on this site from what I can tell. -
I suppose that the Reds are going to stick around as well Take a look at the NL East, man. You have two world series contenders in that division, and neither one is from New York. You think that they're going to be buyers, and not sellers? I just don't know where you are coming from with this. Someone else said it in the thread with all of that Freddy Garcia nonsense. :headshake

Southsider's Quarter Season grades
hammerhead johnson replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd say that it's WHIP ratio. Although someone like Curt Schilling could give up 30 HR in a season and still have a 1.10 WHIP ratio. But otherwise, there aren't very many exceptions. If there are two outs in an inning and someone like, ahem, JOSE! JOSE! JOSE! JOSE! makes an error, and runs score as a result of subsequent walks and hits, the ERA doesn't take a hit, but your WHIP ratio certainly does. Mind you, this could never happen because Jose's errors never result in unearned runs. Damaso Marte enters the game with men on first and second. Both of those runs score before the inning ends, but he doesn't pick up any earned runs. That's bulls***. But the walks and hits that he gave up are reflected in his WHIP ratio.
