He actually showed the Sox some respect in this column, though. Not a typical Mariotti column.

I don't think that we're watching the same team. We're talking about the White Sox here, correct? Or somebody else? Let me know. I think it's common knowledge that pitching is holding us back from being a top tier team in the AL.

Thurman Thomas arrested for possession
hammerhead johnson replied to witesoxfan's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
See, that's the thing. I read somewhere and I also heard Dr. Michael Baden (from the Autopsy series) say that 40% of all unnatural deaths in the US are linked to alcohol. Stupid people might be more inclined to chill out if they're smoking the greenery. But it's too boring for them, so they have to move on to advanced level drugs like heroin or whatever the argument in the US is. I found out recently that a guy I knew from my old neighborhood has a $200 a day coke habit without a job (obviously). That is really f***ed up, but it's not because he tried weed and then everything snowballed from there He's just a floundering idiot. Just like my cousin, who nearly died last year from an overdose. That guy will sniff paint thinner if it comes down to it. -
What movie are you most looking foward to this
hammerhead johnson replied to Be Good's topic in SLaM
Speaking of Russell Crowe, I rented that "Commander Of The Sea" or "Spankmaster" or whatever the hell it is. I had the subtitles on, and I still couldn't understand what anyone was saying. I turned it off after like 45 minutes. I just couldn't hang in there. Seriously, I'd say that "The Postman" was a better movie. -

I'll give you everything I got for a little piece of mind! I like the early version and the Kinfauns version much more than the LP version.

That one was taken from "Arrive Without Aging". Info: 4-track playback w/commentary by George Martin from "Making Of Sgt. Pepper" TV Special I also took take 2 for "We Can Work It Out" from that comp. The best source for information online is Bootleg Zone Go to the Beatles section on the left side, and then go to "All Files Alphabetically". Or, you could do a search on particular tracks, although they have a great many playlists without any definitive information. Like the gritty version of "I Want You..She's So Heavy"- I don't know where it came from. It must be Take 1. It dwarfs the album version as far as I'm concerned (always a skipper for me).

There is an inordinate amount of jazz fusion from the late sixties & early seventies that would just blow you mind. I have maybe 11 or 12 full crates of jazz oriented stuff from that time period alone. A good place to start would be soulseek. Download "Dusty Fingers" Volumes 1 through 10, and then go from there. Also, if you were to hear some organ reggae, like Jackie Mittoo's 1967 instrumental version of "Whiter Shade Of Pale" (insert salivating smiley here), you'd be fiending for some more. Jackie has maybe 15 LPs out there, and a bunch of compilations as well. That's really just the tip of the iceberg, though. Once again, try soulseek. Just do a search on that one track & I can guarantee that you'll be like damn it how come I haven't heard of any of this stuff before?

I love Otis Redding. My favorite song would probably be one of these five: "These Arms Of Mine" "That's How Strong My Love Is" "I've Been Loving You Too Long" "My Lover's Prayer" "I've Got Dreams To Remember" I could never decide between these. And of course, "Sittin On The Dock Of The Bay" is outstanding, albeit not a typical Redding track. Yeah, nobody comes anywhere close to Otis in the R&B realm as far as I'm concerned.

Latin Baseball Players Piss on their hands
hammerhead johnson replied to 1549's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
They said on the score that only three guys in the majors bat with their bare hands: Alou, Posada, and Vladimir Guerrero. That's it. Only three dudes. You make it sound like every last one of them is doing it. -

I know that Jose has great range on defense, he's a great personality in the clubhouse, has a great mustache, blah blah blah, etc. But I still boo that man wholeheartedly from my living room. I really like Valentin as a person, though. I'll never forget that standup comedy routine that he did back in 2000. He said something along the lines of this: "Here in Chicago, we have Dog Day once a year. But in Milwaukee, every day was Dog Day". I can't believe that he'd just call out Wisconsin women like that.

These guys have no shame. I mean, these are things that should be taken with you to your grave.

I guess that we're just going to have to agree to disagree then, Poppy. I see the Sox scoring at least a half dozen in this one. :fyou Catalanato

Kurt Warner Traded To Chicago ?
hammerhead johnson replied to Scwible's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Martz would make one hell of a WR coach. He can't do much else. As far as him being appointed head coach, take a look at the owner over there in St. Louis. Football knowledge is nonexistant over there. The dumbest super bowl winner in the history of the sport, perhaps. -

If it was up to me, though, I'd let him learn on the job, as Troy Aikman did when he went 1-15 in his first year. Otherwise, we'll have to put up with the crap in 2005, and maybe even 2006. I don't mind an 8-8 record in 2004, as long as Grossman can get a full year of experience underneath his belt. -

Kerry Collins and Kurt Warner both have horrible footwork, but I'd say that Kurt takes the cake. 7 fumbles....I wonder why it was his only start. And you just said yourself that Rex has a ton of talent. Why would we push him to the side for a short term option? -

We'd lose like 13 games. Remember, he fumbled 7 times on opening day last year. We're talking about a Rams team that has great offensive tackles, and guys like Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce, and Torry Holt at the skill positions. Basically, he might have the worst footwork of any quarterback in the last 25 years. And we have a promising young QB in Grossman. You don't want to mess with that. -
I'm more intrigued by the possibility of Jeremy Reed replacing Rowand. Willie and Aaron will make phenomenal bench players.

There was a shooting at the Cubby Bear:

Lost of details are coming out now. Some guy who was on the scene told B & B that one of the guys in the SUV was hollering "CUBS SUCK!" out of the window. That's how it all started, apparently. Supposedly, the victim was scared s***less when they hopped out of the SUV, but he didn't back down, hitting the driver in the head with his miniature bat. I just can't figure out what kind of chicken s*** motherf***er would need a gun in a situation like that. -

There are 32 teams. There aren't 32 good quarterbacks to go around, let alone 64. Your #1 has to stay healthy if you want to win in this league. Who has a #2 that is just as good or nearly as good as their #1? Are you thinking about Joe Montana and Steve Young? Tom Brady and Drew Bledsoe? It never happens. -

That's horrible. Just a couple of lowlife gangbangers passing through, huh? It can't be the first time that a murder has occured in that area, though. We're talking about Chicago here. We led the nation in homicides last year with 599. New York has three times the population, and they ended up with 596. -
Oh yeah? How did you know? Did you flip a coin or something? Because he put up a 285 OBP in 2002 and a 295 OBP up last year. I'd say that he pretty much came out of nowhere, and when people say that they somehow knew in that "I Told You So" type of manner, I think of that "Real Men Of Genius" commercial.
