  1. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) KG comes to mind. I have the same message for Kirilenko as a couple of your other favorites, camby and tyson...STAY HEALTHY Yep, that's right. Garnett could also put up a crazy statline like that with more points, more rebounds, less blocks, and way less steals. For the majority of last season, Garnett was the only non-guard who was Top 25 in assists. That's really like the first thing I'll mention if I'm having a conversation about him with someone. That, or his defensive tenacity.
  2. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) Utah is 13-8 with Andrei Kirilenko, and 2-8 without him. If that guy could stay healthy and they could actually surround him with more than just a couple of good players, that team would be dangerous, especially with Sloan running the show. Look at Andrei's stats from last night's game against the Lakers: 14 Points 8 Rebounds 9 Assists 6 Steals 7 Blocks There ain't another player in the league who could put up a statline like that. The Jazz are now 14-8 when Kirilenko plays, and 2-8 without him. His impact is beyond comprehension.
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) I was correct the first time, dolt.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 08:14 PM) Man, that was FAST. Yeah, tell me about it. The two gigantic raw motherf***ers (Robert Swift and Johan Petro) are getting absolutely no playing time. They needed to bring in some big men who could contribute right now, so in retrospect, those were probably stupid picks. A lot of people are high on Swift, though. Ridnour/Allen/Lewis make up a nice 1-2-3 combo, albeit a defensively challenged one. Vladimir Radmanovic is a good source of offense off the bench, but he can't play any defense either. Combine all of this with the fact that they have one of the worst defensive frontcourts in the NBA, and you have a team that ain't going anywhere in a hurry.
  5. QUOTE(Spiff @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 08:03 AM) People make fun of the Atlantic division, at least they have 2 teams .500 or better. Look at the Northwest. Minnesota 14-14 Utah 15-16 Denver 15-17 Seattle 13-17 Portland 10-20 Yep, that's pretty sad. Denver would have been great if not for all of the injuries. Utah is 13-8 with Andrei Kirilenko, and 2-8 without him. If that guy could stay healthy and they could actually surround him with more than just a couple of good players, that team would be dangerous, especially with Sloan running the show.
  6. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 04:22 AM) tyson's line tonight: 11 min., 2 boards, 2 blocks, 0-2 for 0 points previous game: 14 min., 0 boards, 1 block, 1-2 for 2 points, 3 turnovers Talk about disappointing...Is there more wrong to him than is being said? I knew he wasn't as good as some here build him up to be, but never this bad. He needs to move back to PF and average somewhere between 30 and 35 minutes per game. None of this 15 minute crap out of the C slot. Isn't it obvious by now that John Paxson is an incredible dumbass? No back-up plan at the C slot, no legitimate SG on the roster, etc. We're gonna have two high picks next year & a s***load of cap space. Maybe it's time to get Paxson the f*** outta here and bring in someone that knows what they're doing. Otherwise, we're gonna suck for a loooong time if his moves up to this point have been any indication.
  7. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) Physical superiority doesn't always translate into success on the field. Look at Michael Vick. He has all of the physical talent in the world, but is completely worthless when it comes to making decisions. On the other hand, Peyton Manning doesn't have the strongest arm ever and is a freaking statue in the pocket, but he knows a few things about reading defenses. I was going to let this slide at first. What you're saying here is that Peyton Manning is not blessed with loads of natural talent to supplement his smarts. That's a load of crap. That guy's arm is golden. Name me one guy who is more accurate in the current NFL. And are you trying to tell me that he doesn't have outstanding arm strength? The dude was born to be a QB. God damn, man. Your posts are painful to read.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) Defensive statistics are crap imo. Jeter isn't the best defender in the world but he's certainly not bad. If you base defense and stats alone then you have to find another tool because they will not give you an accurate judgement of that defender. There's no question about it. I'm a basketball guy first and foremost, and you wouldn't believe some of the defensive scouting reports that I've seen based on just stats alone. It's mind-boggling.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) And let me guess you're making your defensive judgements on range factor? Defensive statistics do just about no justice in showing how good a player is defensively. You have to watch that player play or you'll have no idea. Right, you watch the games and you supplement what you have seen with statistics, scouting reports, etc. I have seen plenty of Jeter action, and he is nothing special. He is solid when balls are hit right at him, but his range is run-of-the-mill. You only have to watch a few games to find that out.
  10. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) I'm not sure what you mean by that last part, but you sure sound like an intelligent adult by using words like "f***ing" and "jerkoff." And you're a real bubbly personality as well. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black... :rolly Hey, maybe you would be better served giving pointers on brain surgery, rocket science, super duper advanced calculus, etc. You know, stuff like that. This baseball thing clearly ain't working out for you.
  11. Jeter neither excels or sucks from a defensive standpoint. He is average to slightly above average. Uribe just blows him out of the water. It's not even funny.
  12. Team Assist-To-Turnover Ratios 1. Detroit 2.05 to 1.00 2. Phoenix 1.88 to 1.00 3. Philadelphia 1.60 to 1.00 4. Minnesota 1.59 to 1.00 5. New Jersey 1.58 to 1.00 6. Sacramento 1.57 to 1.00 7. Golden State 1.56 to 1.00 8. Denver 1.53 to 1.00 9. San Antonio 1.47 to 1.00 10. Toronto 1.43 to 1.00 11. LA Clippers 1.41 to 1.00 12. LA Lakers 1.41 to 1.00 13. Memphis 1.40 to 1.00 14. Milwaukee 1.39 to 1.00 15. Seattle 1.39 to 1.00 16. Chicago 1.37 to 1.00 17. Miami 1.37 to 1.00 18. Washington 1.34 to 1.00 19. Charlotte 1.33 to 1.00 20. Cleveland 1.33 to 1.00 21. New Orleans 1.30 to 1.00 22. Boston 1.27 to 1.00 23. Utah 1.27 to 1.00 24. Dallas 1.28 to 1.00 25. Portland 1.16 to 1.00 26. Indiana 1.14 to 1.00 27. Houston 1.14 to 1.00 28. Atlanta 1.09 to 1.00 29. Orlando 1.07 to 1.00 30. New York 1.00 to 1.00 Wow, how about that Larry Brown team with a dead-even Assist-To-Turnover ratio? They have got to be one of the most pathetic teams in NBA history. If not for young guys like Channing Frye and Trevor Ariza, they'd be competing with the Hawks and Raptors for the #1 pick, and the Bulls would have a legitimate shot at getting the best college basketball player in the nation. The bottom three teams are those that you'd expect to see with Starbury, Stevie Franchise, and Joe Johnson trying to set up an offense in the half court. The Pacers situation is shocking, however. They should be right around 1.35 to 1.00. Despite the fact that Nash turns it over 4 times for every 10 assists, the Suns are looking damn good in overall Assist-To-Turnover Ratio. They also lead the league in fewest assists allowed per game: 1. Phoenix 16.44 2. San Antonio 16.54 3. Dallas 17.06 4. Utah 17.54 5. Indiana 17.74 What this indicates is that the Suns have a 2-3-4 combo that can play some defense in Bell/Diaw/Marion. They can shut down those passing lanes, and then some. I didn't think they had even a prayer of beating the Spurs in the Conference Finals last year, but this year, after Stoudemire gets back, they could very well force a 6 or 7 game series. They still don't have enough beef on the interior, but they should be able to contain Ginobli, Parker, Finley, etc. That's a damn good ratio for Philadelphia, too. You'd have to figure that anything above 1.50 is pretty much golden. What else can you say about Detroit? They're just an insane squad. Top notch defense and one of the most efficient offenses (read: no risks) in the NBA thus far. It's a beautiful thing.
  13. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) Wow, the piling-on continues. :rolly Yeah, and it's a f***ing mystery as to why people are coming out of the woodwork to STOMP on your baseball thoughts. It's not enough that you're wrong about pretty much everything, but your posting style has JERKOFF written all over it. You're just some bitter dude from Oregon that got banned from WSI, correct?
  14. Did this guy just say that Derek f***ing Jeter is a stellar defensive shortstop? He is as good as Uribe defensively, if not better? I suppose that he might actually have a baseball thought that is accurate one of these days, although I wouldn't bet on it.
  15. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 01:08 AM) Murph has limited knowledge outside of baseball. Although I haven't listened to his show much since its move to afternoons, I heard all I needed to from a radio spot plugging his program. IIRC, it followed : "All we hear is the Bears' offense is terrible, but in the last (however) many games, the Bears have held the opposition to even fewer points. Is this illogical?" I sat listening to this on the train thinking, of course it is, you moron. Our defense, up until this afternoon, was the best in the league. Found it rather odd the Score would select a snippet from Murph's show which exposes his lack of depth concerning football. Aside from his noted Cub homerism, I question his objectivity. He devoted five minutes to discussing how he would show no emotional attachment (negative or positive) towards the Sox during their impending playoff run. Right away, Sox fans listening knew where not to turn to for insight into a playoff game. It's as if he needes to maintain Cub credibitlity among his targeted audience of 35-50 year old men residing on the North side. In the final week of this seaon, Murph continued to discuss the Cubs. Noted, in my mind, because in the final week of 04' Cub collapse Murph said--on air--he would no longer discuss the White Sox. Odd how circumstances change when the scenarios are flipped. Another problem is his relationship with Jim Hendry. It's close, as I can figure. Nothing is ever his fault. It's, as you referenced, Andy Mc F-A-I-L's fault Hendry can't create trades without attempting to fleece the other team. I can go on for another few paragraphs. I'll end this by adding his goofy sound effects don't help. Fair enough. Baseball is clearly his area of expertise, as you stated. The baseball-related interviews on his show are almost always outstanding. Also, for me, comedy is the most important aspect when it comes to sports radio, and Murph cracks me up constantly.
  16. Steinkerchner is a b****. I have seen Michael Strahan put his hands on an official numerous times. Just because Mike has an inch-wide gap between his two front teeth doesn't mean that you let him off the hook and punish cocky little bastards like Steve Smith. Steve is cocky in a good way, though. Not many players have more balls that that guy.
  17. Happy happy new year to all y'all motherf***ers.
  18. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) Aside from Murph, I don't mind the Score personalities. Damn, how come everybody either hates or dislikes Murph? That dude kicks ass, IMO. But I've been listening to the Score on a regular basis for over a decade now, so perhaps I have just grown to love him. You can't just jump right in and like a guy like Murph off the bat, I suppose. I know that you're a Score head, so you've probably listened to Murph plenty of times. Is it his voice, his love for the Cubs, etc? All he ever does is criticize Andy McFAIL and Jim Hendry. He's definitely not a homer.
  19. QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) I hope it's your last post as well, as those who engage in ad hominemattacks are intellectually worthless. And those who receive such vicious, humiliating e-beatdowns should just kinda fade away, if you know what I'm saying.
  20. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 03:28 AM) Misleading. arroyo plays about 13 minutes per. Well, it's not as misleading as you think. Assist-To-Turnover Ratio is not an accumulation statistic. Supposing that he was given an additional 7 to 10 minutes per game, would his Assist-To-Turnover ratio be that much different than what it is in the 13 minutes per contest that he is currently receiving? Would it go from 3.70 to below 3.00? I doubt that very much. If you can argue otherwise, feel free. All credit goes to Flip Saunders for his terrific approach on offense. I don't even have to look at the Detroit record. That guy is coach of the year in a landslide.
  21. Chris Rongey is awesome, fellas. He is also a very handsome man.
  22. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 08:54 PM) Chauncey billups is the mvp of the league this year especially if nash won it last year. I do not think they are even in the same league if you compare the seasons. Billups is such a damn joy to watch. That guy is a 4th quarter monster. When the game is on the line, he doesn't miss free throws, and he doesn't turn it over.
  23. Top 20 In Assist-To-Turnover Ratio w/ a minimum of 20 GP 1. Chauncey Billups 4.73 to 1.00 2. Brevin Knight 4.58 to 1.00 3. Eric Snow 4.03 to 1.00 4. Carlos Arroyo 3.70 to 1.00 5. Chris Duhon 3.65 to 1.00 6. Luke Ridnour 3.46 to 1.00 7. Ricky Davis 3.44 to 1.00 8. Baron Davis 3.25 to 1.00 9. Jason Kidd 3.13 to 1.00 10. Sam Cassell 3.06 to 1.00 11. Chris Paul 3.00 to 1.00 12. Jose Calderon 2.88 to 1.00 13. Marko Jaric 2.86 to 1.00 14. Andre Miller 2.69 to 1.00 15. Steve Nash 2.62 to 1.00 16. Boris Diaw 2.62 to 1.00 17. TJ Ford 2.60 to 1.00 18. Jarrett Jack 2.53 to 1.00 19. Kirk Hinrich 2.52 to 1.00 20. Raymond Felton 2.45 to 1.00 A few things: Who would have thought that Ricky Davis would be in the Top 10? That's f***ing crazy. I don't know what Flip Saunders is doing over there in Detroit, but god damn, two players in the Top 5? Chauncey is flourishing like it's nobody's business. I thought that Raymond Felton was supposed to get the bulk of the minutes for the Bobcats this year. Otherwise, I'd have drafted Brevin Knight in my fantasy league without hesitation. Allen Iverson barely missed the Top 20 with a 2.39 to 1.00 ratio. He might be 7th in the league in assists, but way too many of his passes are of the dumbass variety. Steve Nash is turning the ball over WAY too much. 2.62 to 1.00 is a crappy ratio for someone who is leading the league in assists. Hell, before tonight is over, Boris Diaw could have the best Assist-To-Turnover ratio on that team. Troy Hudson is taking away too many minutes from Marko Jaric. Otherwise, you'd be hearing about Marko a lot more. I know that he's a below average defender, but Troy Hudson is the worst defensive PG in the league. He is painful to watch. There's no reason why Jaric shouldn't be getting 30 to 35 minutes every night. Boy, the Hawks could use Chris Paul right about now. Joe Johnson is sporting a 1.72 to 1.00 turnover ratio, which is pretty much crap. Where's Stevie Franchise? Where's Starbury? They're busy sucking it up, as usual. Here are the 5 most entertaining Assist-To Turnover ratios IMO: 1. Ben Gordon 1.08 to 1.00 2. Stephon Marbury 1.53 to 1.00 3. Steve Francis 1.84 to 1.00 4. Joe "The Experiment" Johnson 1.72 to 1.00 5. Lebron James 1.66 to 1.00 In fairness to Lebron, he goes out and singlehandedly beats teams, so I'll let him off the hook. There is no question that he is turning the ball over way too much, though.
  24. Oh boy, let the e-beatdown commence. This is gonna be brutal.
