  1. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 01:21 AM) Middle Buffalo is Funnier than most of that list Middle Buffalo is like the most slept-on poster on soxtalk. That guy rules.
  2. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 05:43 AM) Gotta go with Lawrence followed by Samir Me too. Lawrence is my favorite, and Samir would get my 2nd place vote. Back up in that ass with the resurrection.
  3. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) I was stating guys who prove that 26-29 is not the prime years for WR's. If you're good, you usually last until about 36. Nope. I tried to put together a Top 30 list of WRs since the mid-60s. Some of the selections can be argued against, I suppose. The point is that these guys were all blessed with incredible tools. Here it is. Guys who suffered sizeable to severe drop-offs in between the ages of 30 and 33: Lance Alworth (San Diego) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/AlwoLa00.htm Raymond Berry (Baltimore Colts) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/BerrRa00.htm Fred Biletnikof (Oakland) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/BileFr00.htm Cliff Branch (Oakland) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/BranCl00.htm Isaac Bruce (St. Louis) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/BrucIs00.htm Harold Carmichael (Philadelphia) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/CarmHa00.htm Gary Clark (Washington) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/ClarGa00.htm Henry Ellard (LA Rams) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/EllaHe00.htm Bob Hayes (Dallas) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/HayeBo00.htm Michael Irvin (Dallas) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/IrviMi00.htm Steve Largent (Seattle) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/LargSt00.htm James Lofton (Green Bay) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/LoftJa00.htm Don Maynard (NY Jets) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/MaynDo00.htm Tommy McDonald (Philadelphia) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/McDoTo00.htm Mike Quick (Philadelphia) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/QuicMi00.htm Andre Reed (Buffalo) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/ReedAn00.htm Andre Rison (Atlanta) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/RisoAn00.htm Sterling Sharpe (Green Bay) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/SharSt00.htm Lynn Swann (Pittsburgh) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/SwanLy00.htm John Stallworth (Pittsburgh) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/StalJo00.htm Rod Smith (Denver) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/SmitRo01.htm Paul Warfield (Cleveland) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/WarfPa00.htm EXCEPTIONS: Tim Brown (Oakland) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/BrowTi00.htm Cris Carter (Minnesota) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/CartCr00.htm Marvin Harrison (Indianapolis) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/HarrMa00.htm Art Monk (Washington) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/MonkAr00.htm Jerry Rice (San Francisco) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/RiceJe00.htm Charlie Taylor (Washington) http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/TaylCh00.htm AS YET UNDETERMINED Randy Moss Terrell Owens Common sense would indicate that if great guys become merely good or worse in between the ages of 30 and 33 (by and large), then guys who are merely good in their prime (typically 26-29) become mediocre or horses*** WRs. There are exceptions to everything in this life, nitetrain. I don't want to hear about f***ing Ed McCaffrey. You NEVER, EVER, EVER base an argument on exceptions. "If you're good, you usually last until about 36" And then you wonder why I respond to your posts. If you said stuff that was on point, you'd never hear from me.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 01:12 AM) Travesty. Are you trying to say that me, qwerty, willay, da cheat, and some dude named Brian ain't worthy? Good luck in that "Most Likely To Get Flamed" contest.
  5. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 05:16 AM) By the way, I like seeing when a guy goes for 20+ boards. Since I don't see him play much, how much upside do you figure Dwight has? Dwight Howard is a legend in the making. He'll be on Duncan's level in two to three years. As far as Tyson is concerned, I'm not gonna be the only guy in Chicago who defends him. Don't worry, I'll come back when he starts to peak and rub it in all of your faces. And who gives a flying f*** about what ESPN has to say about anything, kyle? Why do you even bother paying attention to that piece of s*** station?
  6. There are exceptions, but most WRs with great tools start to take a dive when they hit their early 30s (30-33, let's say), mostly due to an accumulation of injuries. You said that Terrell Owens was in his prime. That is clearly not the case, as he'll turn 33 pretty soon. I follow you around because I like you, nitetrain.
  7. This should be good. My personal favorite is Lawrence (Peter's neighbor). The mullet, the accent, the various facial expressions, etc. That dude is just too funny. This movie is a comedic masterpiece, and I could watch it over and over.
  8. So, what are the 5 teams that have surprised you the most? 1. Charlotte/Oklahoma City 19-19 Overall, and 7-2 thus far in the month of January. Who in their right mind saw this coming? Chris Paul is a stud PG as a rookie, David West is one of the frontrunners for "Most Improved Player In The NBA", etc. I figured that Byron Scott would be one of the last guys capable of righting this ship, but he has done a tremendous job so far. If only they had some more beef down low. In retrospect, what a sissy move by Jamal Magloire to demand a trade. 2. Memphis 23-14? You have got to be s***ting me. They lost three of their four best defenders (Watson, Posey, Swift), they lost Bonzi Wells and White Chocolate, they have a big stiff at the C slot in Lorenzen Wright, their big FA acquisition was that bozo Mighty Mouse, and Eddie Jones is starting for them???? 23-14 on the strength of what? Battier is the real deal, though. He gets s***ted on all the time, but I would love to have that guy on my squad. Boy, does he work hard. Gasol is amazing, of course. 3. LA Lakers Okay, this team just flat out sucks, and somehow, they are 21-18? I'll take Bryant and Odom, and you can have the rest. Those guys are both a couple of clowns in the team chemistry department anyway. Kwame Brown for Caron Butler???? Yikes. Phil Jackson is indeed a magician. 4. LA Clippers Brand is Brand. He has been peaking for a few years now. Really, this season has been the Sam Cassell show, and once he hits the IL, I think that they'll drop out of the playoff picture. It doesn't help that Maggette will be injured for the next 6+ weeks either. Livingston is a personal favorite of mine if we're talking about tools, but he still has a long way to go. This is one of the most talented teams in the league, so I can't say that I'm too surprised. 5. NY Knicks 13-25? They're supposed to be about 8-30. Kudos to that supreme flake Larry Brown for f***ing with our draft pick. Maybe Isiah Thomas should only be scouting college players, because they have rookies in Frye, Lee, and that midget Nate Robinson who have been playing hard and putting up nice numbers. They also have a young guy with plenty of defensive upside in Trevor Ariza.
  9. Damn it, how could I be the only guy backing nitetrain for this award?
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) He is 32 almost 33. Is that really the prime age for a WR? I don't know this for sure, but I don't think so. Of course not. In football terms, I'd say that you're in your prime when you're between the ages of 26 and 29. Without even looking into it (kinda like nitetrain), I'd assume that this will be his 12th or 13th year in the NFL?
  11. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) I'll give Angelo mad credit for having the balls to go after T.O. You're gonna give him mad credit, yo?
  12. QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) raped by her husband? you lost me there. Damn mmmmbeeeer, ya ignorant bastard! Marital rape actually appears to be pretty widespread. This is what a "prominent" rape researcher determined: Do a google search on "Marital Rape", and you'll come across all kinds of terrible s***.
  13. Really, with Kerry Wood either on the DL or coming out of the bullpen, Brandon McCarthy would be their #3 starter. Meanwhile, he is #6 on our depth chart. I think that's pretty much all that needs to be said.
  14. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 05:58 PM) I think dates and schedules are needed. Need to see who they play off their bye week. Who they play coming off weak teams and who they play coming off good teams. I'll go based pure off teams though. HOME San Francisco 4-12 - Win Seattle 13-3 * - Loss Buffalo 5-11 - Win Miami 9-7 - Loss Tampa 11-5 * - Win Detroit 5-11 - Win Green Bay 4-12 - Loss Minnesota 9-7 - Loss AWAY Arizona 5-11 - Win St. Louis 6-10 - Win New England 10-6 * - Loss NY Jets 4-12 - Win NY Giants 11-5 * - Win Detroit 5-11 - Win Green Bay 4-12 - Loss Minnesota 9-7 - Win 10-6 record which should be good enough to get in the playoffs. If Favre is back, Packers win that division. Minny is still a darkhorse though. If Favre is back, the Packers win the division? We're getting swept? Holy s***, man.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 15, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) Here's the thing. At some point or another, production is what matters. Its the end result. Talent only takes you to a certain point. I hear you. Tools come first and foremost, but it doesn't mean jack without the passion/intensity/heart/work ethic/etc. All of these things are evident on the court. I won't back a guy if he doesn't care about winning, basically. That's how I feel about Eddy Curry. While the sky is the limit as far as his offensive potential is concerned, I could never, ever like a guy who is complacent in a losing atmosphere.
  16. That should go down as the worst game of Tyson's career when all is said and done. I tend not to look at current results and just stick with my assessment of his tools and what he could accomplish in the future. But there's no doubt that Chandler backers aren't too happy right now. I'm not going to abandon him, but I should probably stop defending him for the time being. I was at a bar last night, and some dude was talking all kinds of s*** about Tyson. Of course, I kept my mouth shut, and I should probably do likewise on here. I don't want to be the only guy in Chicago defending Tyson, basically. I need some dudes on my side, but as Hawk would say, they gone.
  17. Rongy is interviewing Singleton right now, and if he says "you know" one more f***ing time, my head is going to explode. Good God.
  18. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 13, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) One thing I noticed on the conference call ... the inordinate number of times Singleton said "y'know". "Well, y'know, because I just finished playing, y'know, I'm pretty sure I, y'know, can relate to the players but by the same, y'know, token I can point out the y'know, positives and be objective." Sometimes I wonder if these athletes listen to themselves and realize how many times they drop in "y'know". Yep, that's how most potheads communicate. He can't really explain himself properly. I'm a major score head, and I must say that I am beyond disappointed that they hired Singleton. I've heard plenty of interviews, and pretty much all of them have just bored me to death. Listening to games on the radio is gonna be brutal.
  19. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jan 13, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) Bulls get: Paul Pierce Celtics get: Ben Gordon, Tim Thomas OR Bulls get: Paul Pierce, Ricky Davis Celtics get: Ben Gordon, Tim Thomas, #1 pick (from Knicks) No picks involved in that first scenario? I wish it were that easy. I would have to assume that most GMs outside of Isiah Thomas know that all Ben Gordon can do is shoot, and he can't even do that consistently or intelligently. He brings nothing to the table outside of scoring punch, basically. Pierce, on the other hand, is an assassin. He can do it all on the offensive end of the court. He can shoot, drive to the basket, pass effectively, etc. I love big scoring SGs. I might even be a Kobe Bryant fan if he wasn't such an asswipe. The most glaring holes on the Bulls right now are 1) lack of a legitimate center and 2) lack of a legitimate SG. I don't think Paxson has the brains to right this ship. We have a team of PGs, SFs, slow-footed PFs, and Tyson Chandler. Ainge just ain't gonna bail out Jim err John Paxson by sending us Paul Pierce, although that would be lovely!
  20. Action/Adventure - Rambo: First Blood Comedy - Blues Brothers Crime/Gangster - Godfather Part II Drama - Shawshank Redemption Epics/Historical - Braveheart Horror - Jacob's Ladder Science Fiction - Alien Western - The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly Mystery - Sixth Sense Sports - Rudy
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 11:04 PM) I think the key to Grossman isn't Grossman himself, it's knocking a Safety or two farther away from the like to guard against the threat of a deep ball. If all you do is push back the safeties, and maybe get the linebackers thinking pass every so often, it'll massively increase the holes for Jones et al. Grossman can do that. Right, and that's the point. Carolina will actually have to respect our passing game this time around.
  22. QUOTE(Spiff @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) And he won't be rusty this weekend when he plays for the first time in...3 weeks? His decision making isn't that great, I saw him force the ball in the red zone against Atlanta and give up a pick, then get lucky when Carpenter fumbled. Then he just threw up a wounded duck against the Packers that got plucked easily. A rusty Grossman is a s***load better than Orton, and that's the point here. Grossman threw the ball well in both the Atlanta and Green Bay games. I'm not at all saying that he's a pro bowl caliber QB, but Orton makes him look like one. Put it that way.
  23. QUOTE(Spiff @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 10:23 PM) Actually I did watch both games with Grossman. The difference between he and Orton isn't Weinke-Delhomme. Grossman moves the ball slightly better, but, one touchdown! Yeah, but he was rusty as s***. Fact is, he has a much better arm than Orton and his decision-making ability just trumps that of Orton. Carolina will actually have to respect our passing game this Sunday, unlike the last time we matched up.
  24. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) And this is what everyone fails to realize. Yeah, tell me about it.
  25. And remember, I did pick the Panthers to go to the Super Bowl this year. Also, last year I was talking about being able to spot up and coming defensive teams with Man Of Steel, and this is what you said: "Just like Carolina, right?" lol.gif In response to that, I said: "They didn't make it to the Super Bowl on the strength of their good looks, now did they?" And now you're defending them? Hmmm.
