  1. QUOTE(Spiff @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) 1)ok, so 13-0. whoopdee-goddamn-doo. do you really think the panthers are going to run the same game plan with the same blocking schemes? really? 2)no way, no way, no way, no way no way. god, grossman plays a game and a half and everyone is ready to anoint him the savior. 51.3% passing, 1 TD and 2 INT, 59.7 rating (same as kyle orton), and they didn't even play him against minnesota for some stupid reason. the panthers shut down a good giants offense, they can shut down a bad bears offense. Delhomme's career rating is 84.5 (80, 87 and 88 as a Panther), weinke's is 60.4. grossman career - 68.8; orton 59.7. ridiculous comparison. 1) Yeah, I'd say that a shutout is pretty damn impressive, especially against a Carolina team that had been averaging 27 points per game going into that contest? It doesn't matter what type of blocking schemes they run. Carolina just doesn't have the OL personnel to contain the pro bowl caliber trio of Harris, Brown, and Ogunleye. While the Carolina O-Line is respectable, the Bears D-Lien is perhaps the best in the NFL. Once those guys get going, it's a thing of beauty. 2) No paper arguments here. I never miss Bears games, so I don't even have to look at any statsheets. The difference between Orton and Grossman is drastic. You only have to watch a couple of games to find that out. I'd respect your argument if you actually watched any Bears games. Otherwise, it's kind of difficult to have a conversation about this. Paper is crap. I wipe my ass with it.
  2. QUOTE(Spiff @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) I was just saying, the Bears didn't exactly move the ball that last game like the '01 Rams. Their only TD came on a 3 yard drive. Now, the Panthers didnt really move it either, but all this means is whatever team makes less mistakes is gonna win when everyone seems to think it'll just be the same game all over again. Well, two things: 1) It should have been a 13-0 shutout. The Panthers were lucky to even get a field goal in the 4th quarter. On seemingly every play, the Bears D-Line was in Delhomme's face. 8 sacks, countless batted balls, etc. The D-Line pressure was overwhelming. That's why Vasher got those picks. 2) The difference between Orton and Grossman is like the difference between Weinke and Delhomme. Like I said in a previous post, unless Carolina has Alan Faneca and Walter Jones on their team for this game, it should be more of the same. While I wouldn't be surpirsed if Carolina happened to edge out a victory, I'm still expecting the Bears to demoralize Delhomme once again.
  3. QUOTE(Spiff @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) What is funny is that the first game was much closer than people are making it sound. It might look like it was close on paper, but if you watched that game, it was a severe physical beatdown. That and the Atlanta game were my favorites this year. If you could ever get a hold of that gametape, it would be well worth your time to check it out. You'd be impressed.
  4. QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 02:27 AM) In junior high, I traded an 84 Donruss Strawberry card for an 80 Topps Henderson, an 85 Donruss Clemens and an 85 Topps McGwire. Pretty good deal looking back on it. Nice. 1985 Topps cards were always my favorite. When it came to baseball cards, I was a pretty spoiled kid. That's about all I ever asked for or cared about, though. My dad was a huge baseball card nut too, but when he moved back in 1967, his entire collection was disposed of. He told me that he had pretty much every Topps card from the mid 50s through the early 60s.
  5. Do you believe this f***ing guy? He was supposed to be out for at least two weeks with a torn thumb ligament. And now he's back after missing only one game? Unreal.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 01:21 AM) Don't even compare Dalembert and Chandler. Dalembert is a superior player right now. Right, but that wasn't my point. Dalembert got a huge contract this past offseason on the strength of tools, not accomplishments. The same can be said for Tyson Chandler. Now Sammy is taking off, and you can rest assured that I'm happy about that, as I've been backing him since the 2003-2004 season in the face of plenty of skepticism. But people here know that. Or maybe not, I dunno.
  7. I didn't know that Anthrax was born in 1977? So you were around for the Darryl Strawberry baseball card craze, just like me. That's all it was, man. He was never a great hitter. Gooden, on the other hand, had the tools, just not the longevity. Both guys shouldn't even get a single vote, let alone make it to the HOF.
  8. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Maddux.. a tad better.. Bonds, I guess if Strawberry did riods instead of Blow.. he oo could be at 500+HRs Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry are pretty f***ing far from HOF caliber, Anthrax. I honestly don't know what you're talking about.
  9. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) So what, if one or two of the couple hard hit balls in each of those games land for hits instead of being caught for outs, he shouldn't be in the hall? It comes down to that, a couple breaks in an individual game? :headshake No, the all-time strikeout record and 300+ wins come first, and then you can talk about his all-time records for no-hitters (7) and one-hitters (12). IIRC he might also hold the record for most two-hitters. When Ryan was on, god damn was he on. That said, Nolan Ryan is not one of my Top 10 pitchers in baseball history, and neither is Cy Young.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 12:42 AM) I think I agree with you on the "Chandler isn't being used properly and we need another big guy" angle, but I think there are more issues with Tyson right now, in particular his health and conditioning last summer. He's come out and admitted he didn't work as hard last summer as the year before because I believe he was getting married and didn't want to get hurt before signing a contract, and I think that has shown through this season too. The 1 thing I keep telling myself about Chandler though, is that he's still only 23. He's got a full contract to play through before he would really reach his "Prime years". He's younger than me. He may still very well have his best years ahead of him...especially if the team builds with him in mind by adding size/power in the middle. I still can't help but remember that Jermaine O'Neal really didn't start breaking out as a quality player until his 6th year. This is what happens when you draft a high schooler...it takes a while for them to grow into the part. I'm just going to hope Tyson does grow into something. I couldn't have said it better.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) You just lost the argument by comparing Ben Wallace, Marcus Camby, Kenyon Martin, and eve Samuel Dalembert to Tyson Freaking Chandler. You must have missed this part of my post: Have you looked at some of the contracts given out to big men lately on the strength of defense and rebounding (whether it be upside or what they have are currently accomplishing)? And who prefaces something with you just lost the argument after their point about "market dication" is proven to be inaccurate because of the sizeable difference between what big men demand vs. what perimiter and mid-range defenders demand? Who does that? QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) Dalembert at least gives a damn and puts up double doubles almost every night And last year, Jim O'Brien wasn't using Dalembert correctly, and guess what? People were talking s***, and I was defending him the entire time. And Dalembert "gives a damn", unlike Tyson, right? QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) Plus, Big Ben has all star game appearances, an NBA Title ring, and has won NBA Defensive POY. No comparsion in any regard. This is why I asked you if you were an NBA fan as opposed to a Bulls fan. Do you know Big Ben's history? He bounced around from team to team before he landed in Detroit. HE WASN'T BEING UTILIZED PROPERLY. Ain't that a strange concept? Read between the lines. Chandler is playing out of position. He ain't getting minutes. Last year, as a member of the "closing squad" that went on defensive runs in the 4th quarter, Tyson was really starting to take off. We didn't hold teams to the lowest FG% against in the NBA on the strength of our good looks, now did we? Chandler was a huge part of that.
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 09:07 PM) What?? It's about market dictation sir.....the market doesn't dictate the fact you have to pay a guy 12 million a year for 5 years to just play great defense. You pay scorers that kind of money, and get guys who play great defense for MUCH less. I agree defense is VERY important, but it doesn't cost that kind of money, which is why I consider Tyson's contract to be AWFUL. Have you looked at some of the contracts given out to big men lately on the strength of defense and rebounding (whether it be upside or what they have are currently accomplishing)? Guys who can rebound and play defense in the paint have been getting huge contracts. Case in point: Slow-footed Adonal Foyle, Samuel Dalembert, Tyson Chandler, Ben Wallace and Joe Przybilla this summer, Marcus Camby and Kenyon Martin to a lesser extent because they can score at a near competent level, etc. You're talking about perimiter and mid-range defenders with little to no scoring punch like Trenton Hassell, Raja Bell, Desmond Mason, Eric Williams, Earl Watson, Chris Duhon, Marcus Banks, etc. They can be had for less due to "market dictation", sir. Are you an NBA fan, or pretty much just a Bulls fan?
  13. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 08:36 PM) to answer your question, figure out first how many cowboys there are in the world, then take 10 percent of that number. the number you end up with is how many real life gay cowboys there are. give or take. Actually, from everything that I hear nowadays, it's more like 1 out of every 7 or 8. I used to hear that 10% figure all the time back in the nineties. In the case of Cowboys, it's probably something like 33%.
  14. My personal favorite was the Jesus avatar that Buehrle>Wood had before he adopted the choke avatar. Another favorite of mine is wite's evil baby avatar.
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 08:09 PM) You don't give Tyson Chandler the contract he has for being a really good defender. If you can't score, you shouldn't get a GIANT deal like Tyson's, simple as that. There is so much more to basketball that just scoring, but I agree that it's making baskets that puts asses in seats. I understand how the business works. While defense rules all without exception, I agree that guys like Samuel Dalembert and Tyson Chandler are making a little bit too much, as casual fans don't come out to see them. They want scoring, scoring, and more scoring. While I pity the fool that thinks along those lines, it's just reality.
  16. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) Now Chandler looks like a bust and his contract makes me sick. Chandler is playing out of position, Skiles ain't giving him adequate minutes mostly because he gets into foul trouble as a result of playing out of position, etc. The only thing that makes me sick is how people are quick to criticize a guy with rare defensive tools who just turned 23 years of age. Y'all should direct your anger at Paxson for not having a legitimate center on the roster. Chandler is clearly a PF at 235 pounds. Curry, on the other hand? That guy ain't interested in winning anything. He's soft, lazy, stupid, carefree, etc. That's the guy that I want on my team. He's a freaking Knickerbocker through and through. Ben Gordon is a joke. A few good games ain't gonna change anything. He's a freaking midget out of the SG slot who couldn't even cover me or qwerty, let alone an NBA SG. His shot selection is borderline retarded. His Assist-To-Turnover ratio was 1.08 to 1.00 not even a week ago. Has he finally gotten up to 40% shooting, lol? Ship him off to NY so that he could join some of the other rejects (Crawford, Curry). Opinions should not change on the fly. Ben Gordon will forever suck, and hard at that. Nothing is going to change that. Both the physical and mental tools are there for me to poop on.
  17. QUOTE(Damen @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 03:14 AM) I'm trying to figure out how someone can be pissed off that our spanish speaking manager's spanish speaking son has a spanish speaking radio show about a team who just won the World Series with a team whose star's often depended on the spanish speaking manager's spanish speaking son to translate for them in interviews. WORD
  18. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) i should've read what you wrote, my sentiments exactly...all the best musicians are gone from that band...townshend was a great composer but entwhistle and moon were incredible at their instruments Townsend is a legendary guitarist. He's in the same class as Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Mick Taylor, Peter Green, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, George Harrison, etc. He is my personal favorite from that bunch. Like I said in another thread, there are a good 25 to 30 soundboard concerts from 1968 to 1975 where his legendary guitar is on display. Get you some. The voice is also an instrument, correct? Roger Daltrey was always one of the elite singers in classic rock IMO.
  19. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) I think the Panthers will win. They'll be better prepared this time in Chicago. If you're going to beat the Bears, you need to have a damn good O-Line. While Carolina has a respectable offensive line, they could never hope to contain the trio of Tommie Harris, Alex Brown, and Adawale Ogunleye. Remember, we sacked Jake 8 times in that game. Unless they suddenly acquire Willie Roaf and Alen Faneca, I think that we'll see more of the same.
  20. Bring on the Panthers! You know that Delhomme is going to be having nightmares all week. When he wakes up in the morning, his wife is gonna be like "Honey, who is this Alex Brown that you're constantly mumbling about in your sleep? You say his name like a quivering b****, might I add."
  21. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) The running backs in KC rely on the O-Line. In 2004 Priest Holmes, Derrick Blaylock, and Larry Johnson all ran for over 100 yards in one game, and it might have been 150, I can't remember but it was the first time in history that 3 different running backs ran for that many on 1 team in 1 season. Right, but now they have a guy in Larry Johnson who could go to just about any butt team (Texans, Lions) and absolutely dominate. That guy is insanely gifted.
  22. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 7, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) I thought Saban deserved a sniff. No question about it, especially after winning 6 in a row to close out the season. Good God. Also, Joe Gibbs should have received consideration as well. He has turned that franchise around, and then some.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) Yeah but if you want to compare O-Lines the Chiefs is >> Seattle. There is no question that the Chiefs have the best O-Line in the NFL. Seattle and Indianapolis are both in the Top 5. And you will find people out there who say that Larry Johnson is not as good as his numbers would indicate because of the Chiefs O-Line. But if you happen to catch some Chiefs games, the guy is just magnificent.
  24. I'm not even a Shaun Alexander fan. I don't go out of my way to catch Seattle games. I HAVE ZERO BIAS. I'm trying to call it like I see it. It's clear that Dam8610 is bitter that it didn't go to some Colts player. He might not admit to it, but we all know that it's true. I'd have had absolutely no problem with any one of these players winning the MVP: Carson Palmer Peyton Manning Tom Brady Shaun Alexander Tiki Barber Larry Johnson (despite the missed games) Edgerrin James Steve Smith You wouldn't see me arguing against any of them because I don't have the nerve or bias to do so. You'd see me defending them, kind of like what I'm doing with Alexander right now. And it's starting to get old, too. Let's say that Dam8610 was a Seahawks fan, and Edgerrin James won the MVP. He'd be calling it an absolute travesty. Am I wrong?
